If you buy s*** you get s*** nothing will ever change that. You don’t take chances on players that have not done anything there entire career and are currently 4th choice at another premier league club. But the most glaring thing is that s*** he has just bought then proceeds to get more game time than just about any other player that I find staggering. So we shouldn't have signed anyone at all? "We have what we have because we did what we did"

You are a clown. Or an idiot. Or a mackem. Or quite possibly all three.

It’s horrible to say but an injury to him wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to the team. Dear me.

He does decide because Rafa aint got 100mil in his back pocket to sign a prime Fernando Torres. He gives a budget just like any other owner/chairman who runs a business and then the manager works with that budget. He does not decide who is recruited with that budget. Rafa chose to sign these useless f***ers he was not forced to what cant you understand about that Utter bollocks.

Elliot doesn't make high profile howlers but routinely lets in shots an average Premier League 'keeper should be stopping. He is constantly rooted to his line as well - which causes us all sorts of trouble - mind Darlow can sometimes be guilty of the same. They operate at a very similar level, which is why neither of them has really nailed down the position as their own. Hopefully only a few weeks until we have a new 'keeper.
-
Nah. If Darlow wasn't prone to throwing it in his own net a few times a season he would be comfortable the better 'keeper. As things are they are both operating about the same level with different weaknesses.

I wouldn't mind us sticking with the back 5 from last game with Ritchie, Gayle and Atsu replacing Aarons and Murphy and Joselu There is no need to play a flat back 5 against a Brighton team have managed 5 goals away from home this season.

He's our 2nd best central midfielder. We can't just be getting rid of him like that. Agreed. We have much bigger priorities in the transfer market that need addressing before Shelvey.

With what? Lee Charnley's hole punch?

If we had shown the same application as they did or we did against Liverpool or Tottenham or City you would not have heard a buzz from me even if we had let in 3 or 4. Nobody is denying their quality and that’s exactly why I am saying you don’t allow teams like that to be allowed to walk the ball into our third of the pitch without even a challenge or a token effort to put pressure onto their team and to not give them the time or space to pick their pass. The last 15 minutes is exactly how the previous 75 should have been played as we then started to put the pressure on and the challenges in. For the umpteenth time, this just didn't happen. We were very disciplined in our shape a really restricted their space and came close to shutting them out. But hey, it would have been much better to go toe to toe with a press and get picked off and be 4 nil down after 25 minutes eh?

It is a bit silly as yes there is a big gulf but they were playing a one off cup tie against a very disjointed Man United side. Man United have lost a lot of similar games in recent times 4 of their last 7. We were playing against one of the best sides ever, that had won 18, drawn 1, lost 0.

Are you drunk?

No overreaction at all just telling it how it is. As for far superior teams as some on here keep saying maybe Bristol City should have played the same way the other week then with a team assembled for pennies if they had I don’t think they would be in the semi final right now. That performance until the subs come on was shocking and in 46 years of watching football I have never seen any Newcastle team play in that fashion what happened for the first half. You’re not going to change my mind or others and vice versa and I accept that it’s football and footballs always been about opinions but it damn well certainly wasn’t a overreaction. Well football's moved on from 46 years ago, it's a shame in many ways, but we can't really turn the clock back unfortunately. I’m talking about the whole 46 years and not actually 46 years ago. Never seen any team play like that formation in my life with no attempt to even try and combat the threat. This suggest you don't understand our tactics against Man City and that you don't understand how tactical shape, positioning, discipline etc. works. Watch the Man City game less than two years ago and you will see how tactical shape, positioning, discipline and with a counter threat should be. So yes I fully understand what it takes to play against a superior team. What I saw on Wednesday is a team that was able to practically walk the ball into the last third of the pitch, no challenges and players losing their markers at will resulting in chances and shots on goal happening every few minutes. When the subs were made I saw the team then press city ensuring space and chances were kept to a minimum and we then started to push city back, which was like the full 90 minutes of the last city game. I understand fully I certainly don’t think you do though. Again, you don't understand the tactics we employed. If we went man or man, toe to toe with this Man City side we let in 4+. We had a squad with much more quality then, a lot less heart and desire but without doubt more ability. We were also up against a half decent City side, not the world class one we were up against earlier this week. You said we did nothing to combat them, that's just bollocks, our entire set up was to combat are frustrate them. It nearly worked. Players losing their markers .... see the shape of our team? We weren't marking individuals, our set up was to be disciplined and not allow space, spare defender tracks the runner, it very nearly worked against on the best teams we've seen in the last 20 years.

What areas of his game are second to none? He's a good passer, that's it And even then, as mentioned, his pass completion percentage is lower than Hayden, Merino and Diame. And this is a perfect example of why stats don't give you the full picture. Which is why I use my eyes as well. Can't wait until he's stinking up another team instead of us. How many of our games have you been at this season? Not being funny but you really don't see the full picture when watching on TV.
-
People are seriously advocating getting rid of Shelvey? Have you seen the quality of our squad? Do you trust Mike Ashley to fund even a like or like (ability wise) replacement? We need more quality, to join the squad and compete with Shelvey. He's one of the more talented players in our squad, playing in a team with little quality. He's more than capable at this level with better players around him.

Talking to yourself is a sign of madness.

Yes. Picked up during the first half against Man City.

I’ve rewatched the first half and again, we were abysmal, the worst I’ve ever seen us play at home. I find this very hard to believe. I can think of the Portsmouth defeat under SA and the Liverpool 0-6 straight away. There must be plenty more. Nah, those were bad performances but again our players did f*** all on the ball, not a thing. It was literally 35 minutes of Man City knocking it about, scoring, threatening and us just kicking it away when it come to us. Nothing football. You’re saying it was the worst tactical display you’ve seen at home, not the worst performance. No I didn’t, there was no tactics unless you call camping out on your own box and hoofing it when we had the ball tactics. It was total surrender. Shelvey shooting from kick off was like saying this is our only opportunity to shoot. Absolute nonsense. It was a very tactical and disciplined set up.

Depends if Jeff Winter is doing the inspection.

Should fit in well here then.

Minus his injuries he's a really good premiership quality striker. I struggle to think when we've had something as decent as him upfront. Is he more proven than Gayle in the PL? Don't think so. (Hope that wasn't a serious post) Ings has scored 13 Premier League goals in his career.
