good stuff I hope we peak at just the right time in time for the new season. A strong start will be vital. I remember the start we had in our 2nd season back up. 3-1 away to leicester, 4-0 coventry, 5-0 southampton (iirc), etc... more of the same

IMO he is the best young prospect we have at the club and it would be downright foolish to let him go, unless he desperately wanted to.

Spot on Dave It's not exactly rocket science that we have thread bare squad that needs major beefing up. I'm also quite sure KK and the 3 stooges would want to bring in the best players possible. If anyone thinks they do not realize we need good players, and if anyone thinks we're actually actively pursuing average players as a policy, then they need to pull their finger out. Q for NE5: I'm in no way comparing us to Wigan as a football club overall. But I have a question for NE5. Do you sir think that Dave Whelan was taking a progressive ambitious step in bidding to take Owen there (as had been reported), or do you see it as a failure on his part to sell the club to a high profile player like Owen?
-
so which is it NE5? I'm not a fence sitter myself, but it appears you're swinging your views back and forth as it suits. Please clarify if you've got the time. Thanks its quite simple. We failed to sign a player the manager wanted, and in this case, he wasn't even first choice. well, let's assume KK wanted Aimar, and agreed with Wise and co to go for him. We put in a bid, which was accepted by all "press" accounts. Let's also say that said club and player had other offers on the table. Doesn't said player then get to choose which club he wants to play for? naturally factoring in his own ambition, the club's ambition, wages, european football, city, climate etc...etc... what if the player really did turn us down in favour of Benfica? why does that automatically indicate failure on our part? he's south american remember, and has been a relatively big name charlie for a few yrs now. There may be several reasons why he would choose Benfica over us, and none of them have to be automatically due to our club failing at boardroom/Wise level. just the same way you accuse people of having an agenda against the old board, you clearly use every chance you get to criticize the new board, even when factual information is scarce and all that's available is unsubstantiated drivel written up by some 2 bit journo. the club are missing out on managers targets for not showing ambition/having the setup to persuade them to come/not being urgent enough to go and get them, whatever the reason, and making noises about putting in place a policy that I basically think is the wrong way to get among the top clubs and you think they shouldn't be criticised ? You bet your arse I'll criticise mate, and whats more its justified as well. Show me one piece of hard evidence that suggests that Aimar was a Keegan target. Also, what kind of set up are you on about? The type where we spend 9 million on the likes of Boumsong and Luque? we have a top class stadium, top class training facilities (all thanks to Shepherd no doubt of course) Well, as it happens, the Halls and Shepherd. Yes. Of course, who else do you think its down to, the tea lady ? are you saying the last 15 years have been s**** you have to sell the club. Thats football, in fact thats life. Mate i'm not disagreeing with you! I think we've been quite successful in the past 10-15 yrs. It's been an important part of the club's history, and gave us all something to truly cheer about. But that era is over, and we need to find our feet again to get back up there again. For the record, my comment regarding the stadium, profile, facilities and Shepherd, was NOT sarcastic! I am the first to say it was all down to the SJH's vision and FS's execution. I'm not doubting that or taking the piss. By the way, themanupstairs is me work account. Sorry if thats against the rules, but for some reason I can't sign in with this account at work

He's at the Under 19 European Championship. IFZ. c***. What does that mean Wullie? (The IFZ bit, I mean...I know about the other word ) 'I'm Fabio Zamblera' Or Italy's Fabio Zamblera Oh...wait...I think...yes, I can see what Wullie's done there......oh but that is just brilliant...comedic genius...I think the whole IFZ reference is (unless I am very much mistaken) an exquisitely crafted piece of satire, that with a tongue-in-cheek, sideways glance sort of cheeky insouciance simultaneously refers to the use of and satirizes those responsible for the creation of that whole "EMO = England's Michael Owen" joke. Oh, but that is just brilliant, Wullie. mackems.gif. great fucking post

Spain were magnificent going forward. Ramos was shocking in defence! Very Bramblesque performance from him and Marchena. Xavi and Silva were immense, as were Torres and Villa. Russia were tidy and inventive in spells, but inexperience let them down. Off that team i'd have Akinfeev, Pavlyuchenko (over Crouch any day), and the full-back Aniukov. Shame Arshavin and Pogrebnyak weren't available, as it wouldn't have been this easy for the Spanish. -
General moaning about how s*** things were here and how playing in midfield was going to hinder his international prospects (even though KK hadn't played him yet). Anyhow, that wasn't why I had come to post here... Anyone else think Rozehnal looked excellent yesterday? He was very comfortable on the ball, and defended in a very composed manner, making no noticeable errors. You can see why he was highly-rated pre Newcastle. Obviously Premier League football is a different kettle and fish and made him look like a complete mess, but was that thanks to the Allardyce style? Perhaps a team that focuse more on attack than defence would suit his obvious ability. Its a tough call, but I hope that Keegan is watching. I think he's got quality, but it seems the best Premiership attacking players are either just too strong or just too fast for him. Was very good against the turks, but they were a pretty small/slow bunch. Probably would have had a future as a squad player if he didn't go mouth off to the media like an idiot. I don't think Keegan will ever forgive him for that. if we're prepared to forgive Barton, that's surely forgivable!

the whole issue with not having money to spend, and having to generate funds thru player sales is a diversion and a smoke screen imo. Ashley will spend, but will not spend a penny more than he has to. Sound business it will be should he pull that off.
