    Arda Turan?

Modric unfortunately. I have been pretty impressed with what i've seen of Arda so far but i just think Modric has that little bit more class.

I know a lot of companies where the staff have to pay for their uniforms. No different to me having to buy a suit or shirt and trousers. The matchday shirts get sponsored don't they - a shrewd player would get his suit sponsored also But you can wear your suits, shirts, smart shoes for other things. You could hardly turn up to a christening in a McDonald's uniform. If a company insists that you wear a company uniform then they should supply it free of charge. I know some companies insist that their employees pay for uniforms but they're generally s***, tight-arsed companies that no-one really wants to work for. Team suits are sharp though and can certainly be worn to other events. They're not track suits you know. Yes i know that. I'm not sure i got my point across properly. What i am saying is that a uniform should be paid for by the company, whereas a dress code insisted upon by the company should be paid for by the players. So, in conclusion, if the club insists on the players wearing an NUFC company issue suit (sharp or otherwise) then i believe it is their responsibility to supply them to the players free of charge. If however they say match-day dress code is suit and tie then the players should buy their own.

  4. There's no way the club will accept less than £4m for him. It's pretty obvious the new regime want to recoup as much money as possible and are prepared to play hardball.

I'm really sure if i understand this fully. If by club suits it means that they all have matching suits sourced by the company for them to wear on match days, then that is effectively a uniform and the club should pay for it. If however it means that players are required to wear a suit (of their choice) on match days, then that is a dress code and they are right to make the players buy their own. What if we get to the FA Cup though? Will the club pay for the suits then?
  6. The fact is the guy is a nutter, plain and simple. Even ignoring the cigar stubbing incident, the altercation in a hotel bar and the severe beating of a team mate, we saw 2 separate on-field incidents last season that tell us he's a fucking loon - a chest-high studs up challenge on an opposition whose name i forget and another incident towards the end of the season that i can't recall either (FFS, I must be getting old) but i remember it being pretty awful. Add to that the incident in Liverpool for which he is now serving time and we have more than enough evidence to tell us that we should wash our hands of him, even if it means losing £5.8m.
  7. Great player. Unfortunately like many Dutch footballers he was unable to put his enormous ego to one side as a manager, which ultimately cost him his job.
  8. Milner is no good as a winger - he's not quick enough, he's not skillful enough and his crossing ability isn't good enough. However (and i realise i've said this a few times before) I think he could be an excellent attacking central midfielder - he's got a decent shot on him, he never stops running and he can use both feet. I think he has the potential to be awesome in a central role and i'd be pissed off if we sold him to another club for £7m before we tried it out.
  9. One glaring omittance - a 2 minute multi-ball session for each team, which can be called at any time. 8 balls are thrown onto the pitch at the same time and both teams have the 2 minutes to rack up as many goals as possible. Now we're talking!
  10. Alternatively you could reward the team with the best goal difference a bonus point - put the emphasis on a strong defence as well as a strong attack.
  11. I can see your point in principle but this "sky era" has forced this way of thinking. Football is not entertainment, it is a sport and it is all about winning. If winning ugly is a style of play adopted and it works then well done to the mastermind of that approach. This approach would force teams into a certain way of playing effectively minimizing the tactical approach which can be so intruiging in games. I agree the Greek approach last night was terrible but if they had have nicked a goal and beat Sweden 1-0 it would have been succesful which was its ultimate aim. Not a route I would like to see the game go down as I feel it would detract from its appeal. A good defensive approach can be equally as enjoyable as an all out attacking method, it just depends on how you choose to analyse and watch a game. If you appreciate defensive abilities then you stand to gain more from a defensive showing and vice-versa. The fact is there would be no professional football if it wasn't for the money we pay to watch it, whether at the games themselves or through sky fees. Therefore it is an entertainment industry. We're not given the privilege of being able to watch games by the teams - the teams, the leagues and the competitions are created by us, by our money. It is therefore the duty of the teams to give us something in return for that money - entertainment. This is perhaps the key reason why money has ruined football, because clubs often feel that the demands of the fans must be taken into account in the way they play. When Arsene Wenger finally leaves Arsenal can you see them recruiting a defensive-minded replacement? No, because after the feast of attacking football they've been served up over the last few years the fans wouldn't accept it. The bonus point system wouldn't mean that every team has to be gung-ho, it would just give teams an added incentive to score goals rather than trying to nick a 1-0 from a set piece.
  12. Had an idea last night whilst watching the Greece v Sweden game. I propose the football bodies implement a bonus system at the group stages of all competitions (not just internationals), whereby the highest scoring team gets awarded an additional point. This could potentially change the way all teams approach their games, making it a lot more entertaining for spectators. I demand to be entertained! Thoughts?

    Arda Turan?

he look clumsy to be fair... Not surprising really, he's about 8 feet tall.

    Arda Turan?

Who's that giant they had in defence? Enormous fella with long hair - he looked alright
  15. It could be that we bid £10m for him 4 weeks ago when our interest was first reported and that our offer remains on the table. St Etienne will then do everything possible to try and up his value eg. sign him to a new long term deal, wait until the end or the Euros when his value might have increased. Teams would be daft to accept any offer before the tournament for a player who could potentially make a name for himself on such a big stage - Gomis, Veloso, Turan, Derdiyok etc.
  16. The Beckham comparison is in relation to his media exposure rather than his football. He's a major pin up and style icon in Switzerland. He looks brilliant though. I can't believe i'd never heard of him until last night. Anyone got a phone number for Jeff Vetere?
  17. He's worth £3m tops. What the fuck has he done at Chelsea to warrant his value increasing? 2 years ago he was valued at about £3.5m (i realise he was signed on a free)- he's gone to Chelsea, sat on the bench and done fuck all else and suddenly he's worth £6m?! If anything his value should've dropped. He's 2 years older and he hasn't player regular first team football for 2 seasons. Leave well alone.
  18. He's 23 and plays predominantly on the left wing. A good player, but as long as N'Zogbia is staying not necessarily what is needed. 23!? What the fuck were they on about last night then? Maybe i wasn't listening properly. Anyway, 23 is still a good age and if Duff is on his way............
  19. Anyone heard of Tranquillo Barnetta? He's a young(19), very talented Swiss attacking midfielder. He's basically Switzerland's answer to David Beckham. I saw a profile of him last night on Euro 2008 preview and he looks like a really good prospect. He also fits the bill for the type of player we're looking for.
  20. I am. Unfortunately my tight-arsed boss doesn't agree My apologies. It's well known that you're worth £300k pw, I was talking about footballers! I don't think anyone in the game is worth that sort of money. That said, if you are going to pay someone such a ridiculous salary it might as well be the best player on the planet. Off the subject a little, Jonathan Ross gets paid £6m per year, or £115,000 per week. Why aren't people more up in arms about that? At least footballers are athletes who train hard every day for their money. Wossy is just a gobby prick who takes home a bucket load of OUR money for being rude, obnoxious and not very funny. Or how about Tom Cruise who gets $25m for one film (and he's a total cunt). Rant over!
