Can we win the Premier League minus the 'Big Six' next season?
thomas replied to RupertCommunicator's topic in Football
Yes, we can finish 7th. I think that is an achievable, though by no means easy, target. -
Anyone who would genuinely petition for a stay of judgment after this point - after half a season and the noises he's made about priorities - is mad.

We'll end up signing 35 players from the Championship at £1m each! We can become the English equivalent of Udinese - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udinese_Calcio#Out_on_loan_2010.E2.80.9311

Aye, could probably keep an eye on them both.

WWW still on, please let it happen

Fans don't seem to rate him, they all want westwood or given.

madras sometimes I get the feeling you still haven't accepted the reality of a deterministic universe and acceptance that free will is an illusion

Your honor I would like my last question stricken from the record

With 4-6 points we could probably do that this year. Even in the event Tiote is suspended in August we'd have 35 or so games to turn it around, there's a chance we could achieve what you expect from us next season, this season if we played Tiote. he's important enough to not put next seasons start and goal in jeopardy for the sole goal of (possibly) overachieving this season Looking at the teams below us and just above us, I don't think top half would have overachieved at all. A squad with Carroll for half a season, Nolan, Barton, Tiote, Coloccini, Enrique & Jonas should be finishing top 10 tbh. Just because we're "newly promoted" shouldn't change that. Did you or did you not vote "yes" in the "Would You Take 17th Place Right now" thread? edit: my bad, I had you confiused with another poster - no, no you didn't.

Hope? 1st. Expect? 8th or 9th.

Any benefit of playing him is grossly outweighed by the potential downside of his being unavailable for 3 (or 2) games next season. Literally cannot fathom how any sane person can argue for his inclusion in two games that effect nothing (one of which we'll likely lose with or without him) with the risk of that suspension looming. If we were staring relegation in the face or had even an outside shot at Europe, yes. No Argument. I'd agree every day of the week and twice on Sunday. But seriously, fuck taking that risk with nothing but a league place or two to play for.
-
It's a worthless gamble to take.
-
People arguing for his inclusion out of some misguided notion of pride or ambition need to look further than two games ahead. And for the record we're not guaranteed 8th if we win the last two (which we fucking likely wouldn't anyway, Tiote or not), but 10th, with 9th or 8th if results did go our way.
-
Wouldn't play him at all. One or two league spots, safe as we are, isn't worth risking him being absent for three games against anyone next season. It doesn't matter who we play, the start of that season right now holds priority over the difference in our possible finishing positions.

It's the right decision.

Eh? You probably wrote or drew something libelous.

If the thudd could stay thin he'd be an asset

lol if you didn't know in your heart of hearts we were safe in jan

what a nasty wet bowl splattering turd of a game. not even the kind that you can get rid of in one or two flushes, but the kind where there's hangers on under the rim and you don't know how it got there and goddamnit now you have to get the brush out. I'll take it though.
