One thing that was clearly apparent last night (and all season) is that the 4-3-3 system will never ever work with the midfield that we have. They are deviod of any creativity what so ever, they really are. How we could do with a Nobby or two at the moment. Liverpool will absolutely destroy the team we played last night. For me it has to be: Beye Bassong Colo Jonas Guthrie Smith Barton Duff Carroll/Viduka Martins/Owen We have a much stonger midfield with this lineup and potential for a 3-1-4-2 or 3-5-2 and even 4-4-2.. 4-3-3 is a no, we have to forget that completely IMO. A point at Anfield, although unlikely would not be a bad result at all. We are still not completely fooked if we loose. If Hull keep loosing, a win against the smogs could get us out of the bottom three and condemn them to the fissy pop... hopefully. The boro game IMO was always more important than last night - unless of course they win there next game!!!

Time for Shearer to realise what we have all season and that is that Butt should not be anywhere near the team - what so ever. Guthrie Smith Jonas for me Some how think R Taylor will be in and Colo won't.

What do people think of swapping Martins with Owen in that formation. He is quicker, can run with the ball and we all know - he has a great shot in him (not that we have seen it for a while). Owen could play of the sholder of Viduka?

Agree, although Barton for Smith for me (if fit). We simply cannot afford to field Butt, Nolan, Raylor, Shola again all season. If Colo gets dropped for a few mistakes, Butt should have been sacked three years ago.

I've said that so many times this season... Fair enough but on the evidence of the last countless number of games, I cannot see us winning them either. We have no creativity what so ever in midfield - with Owen, Oba, Viduka up front I still do not fancy us to score at the moment with Nolan, Butt, Smith Et all in the team at all.

IMO Owen plays better with a bigger player alongside him, I would not have chosen Shola though. How is it all our managers seem to like him when 52000+ people think he is shite?

P.S Martins must have got a knock, how you could not have him on the bench with wasters like Smith keeping it warm would be mad. I hope this is not one of Shearers first big mistakes!! He said he would make a few, hope its not today.

Mad lineup that, feck. Then again, the normal 4-4-2 has not worked very well and we need to try something I guess. A brave choice all things considered and at least he has the balls to drop Colo as well. I can see Ranger coming on in this one.. I might have a quick bet on him scoring!!

He is right, they did produce some class players. HOWEVER - none of them wanted to stay did they Arry? If they had managed to keep that lot, they would have enjoyed alot more success IMO.

Maybe Guthrie aint fully match fit/sharp? Its fairly obvious Al will build the team around players like Owen and Butt, imo. Pretty sure Shearer would have told Butt he could still beat him over 2 yards with the Tyne bridge strapped to his arse - sort it out.
