Benfica without doubt. Quick early goal, get the place rocking and we can get the result we need. A win would make Sunday more difficult in some ways (tiredness) but the feel good factor and atmoshpere that would create should counter that easily. Win both games and thats one cracking week we have had.

Not a Pardew fan but if he keeps us up, I think he will and probably should get the first 10 games of next season. The reason being the players still seem to believe in him which is the one thing you want to be concerned about and at the moment the spirit seems good. With no European football next season, a decent pre-season and 2-3 more players in (plus any replacements) and there really are no excuses. We have to improve our defensive record and improve our urgency, passing and penetration - if he can tick these boxes fair enough, if not, move him on after around 10 games.

Not sure why Pardew is exempt from any blame for last night. Yes, we were set up well/started well. But the regular and fucking frustrating habit we have of retrenching and trying to defend a draw/lead is a fucking joke. Its negative and our plays cannot and do not deal with at all, we crumble every time. The whole mindset of the team is his doing. The whole attitude of the team is his doing. We defend terribly and have done all season, this is his doing. OK, he is not to blame for Santon and Taylor gifting two goals but the overall shape, mindset and attitude of the team is his fault. Considering the money we spent in Jan, this team should look like it is (slowly) improving (look at Liverpool) but its not. He is blind to our short comings IMO. Even if we go 2 up next week, he will have us sitting back to protect it and we all know what will happen then.

Great news, lets hope there are no complications during his rehabilitation. Can't see him playing again this season, let him recover physically and mentally for next season.

Interesting to see that 3 of the top four are so bad, you would have thought the top teams would suffer less - or at least have quicker turn around times due to better facilities etc.

The most important thing in all of this is that Massadio make a speedy and full recovery. He looks a cracking prospect, lets hope that has not been curtailed in anyway. Disgraceful challenge and should be appropriately punished.

Defo give him the City game off, although the other argument is that we play the strongest team possible and go for it. A win, although unlikely, would do wonders for confidence before the QF games. We need to get on a role of winning well to have a chance in the Cup IMO.
