We won't get into Europe if we keep spending the way we have - not a chance in h*ll.

Very poor, the club has failed to get the signings needed. The sale of Milner is quite laughable in the light of yesterdays events. We have a woefully thin squad that is littered with injury prone players. We used to be an ambitious club, now I would put us in the 3rd tier of a 4 tier league in terms of ambition and probably league placings this year.

Quicker much shitter version maybe. This

Wholly unimpressed at moment - thought we needed 4 quality players before Milner went, let alone Barton - not looking likely we will get in enough real quality - we only have one in at moment and the jury is defo out on how good he is/will adapt.

9 goals in 23 stars last year. Ta

I've not gone through the whole thread - anyone know what is goal scoring stats are?

Arsenal were faster, sharper and more physical in midfield, up against the best we have bar a fit Barton (I would have Zog and Jonas as my two wide men as first choice). We need a lot more in that area.
-
We were up against class opposition today but I thought Taylor was rubbish and he is not the answer in the CD. Might point out that while we had injuries we actually had what potentially at this stage was our first choice defence and midfield starting today - bar Barton. Which is a depressing thought.

Not bothered about the loan, more bothered as to whether this guy us any good?
-
Shame if its not true, I'd.of sold him well before Milner
-
Good. He's f***ing s****. Agreed

Rubbish signing i it happened
-
We do need another right winger now - not saying Milner was the answer but his departure means we are really struggling in that department as Geremi is not the answer, Barton won't be around for months and is a rubbish right winger and Jonas clearly is a left winger and KK sees him as that. Add that to a CM, CF and a defender, we need 4 quality additions as a minumum in my eyes.

£12m would be fantastic and probably best in longer term but given the lateness in the transfer market, it may hurt us this season (at least till Jan) and although there is still a few days to go and we may do something yet, my expectations for this season are falling daily. That being said, I would back the sale at £12m - he isn't irreplaceable.

tbf i think 15 out of 20 premiership clubs would call this transfer window a failure for themselves, so it's not like we are the exception, clubs don't want to sell TBH i don't give a f***ing s*** what the how the other clubs think they have done, I care about what goes at Newcastle. And when we are fielding Alan Smith up front on his own and some reserve kid in the the middle of the park away to Wigan, what portsmouth did in this transfer window will have no relevance. took the words right out of my mouth Got to concur also with that.

monday is gonna be murder I'm actually glad I'm out of the office and will have no internet access - it will be mayhem!

no easy answer to that is there? and 10m guarantees nothing as you're fond of pointing out, BUT let's try this: "wherever there is a gaping hole in the team & squad a club the size of NUFC should be doing everything in their power to fill that gap with a quality player regardless (within reason) of cost" how does that do you dave? so for us this season i'd say we needed: CB - check CM - nope FW - nope don't think 3 top quality players is a big ask myself, nor did you at the start of the summer I've always maintained that those players need bringing in (though the forward can only be an upcoming player imo given who we have on the books still). If we don't get them I will be criticising the club just like everyone else. For some reason there's always a sense of black and white (ha) on this forum, never any in-between. You can't think a player is poor without being accused of being unreasonable, you can't praise a player without being accused of overrating them, and you can't give Ashley a chance without being accused of wanting to do things on the cheap and accepting mediocrity. So true

To be honest the best way of looking at spend in a year for the club as a whole is to take profit/loss before ammortisation then add the net spend/income on players in that year. Agreed
-
Not to jump into an argument but I think we made a loss of £328k before amortisation of players in 06-07, after amortisation, we made a loss of £26m - no accounts have been filed as yet for 07-08 and I am quite impressed with your thoughts on profits for 08-09, given that financial year has only been 2 months in.

That is total rubbish. His attitude has been spot on and admirable given the way the club treated him over that Villa fiasco. Why shouldn't he be paid as much as some of the gash that he plays with - Taylor being a prime example - total double standards. You have no idea what has gone on behind the scenes but if the Taylor rumour is true then I think that's fair enough, I would do the same in my job if I thought a colleague who was on the same level/inferior to me was being paid more. His attitude throughout on that pitch has been to give a 100% everytime and idiots giving him jip on the pitch will not help anyone. he doesn't decide the wages at the club and trying to exercise player power he will use this 100% committment thing, to get the fans to be on his side, and it's all bollocks smith gives 100%, does he deserve a payrise then? I believe Smith is one of the highest earners in the club so your argument is void. then the arguement that he give's 100% everyweek, so he deserves our support over this is flawed as well Smith should get our support if he gives 100%, it isn't his fault he gets picked - why would you not support anyone who gives a 100% on the pitch? that's the impression i get from a lot of the fan's on here if he's handed in a transfer request, then he doesn't want to play for the club, you don't hand in transfer request's just because you don't get your own way therefore he doesn't deserve our support and he shouldn't get it as well If he doesn't want to play for the club then he shouldn't be picked and while in principle I agree with what you are saying, I would not give him negative at the match as I don't happen to think he has put in a transfer request because he doesn't want to play for the club but because he wants to be on a par wage wise with some of his peers - which I actually think is fair enough, As I have said, I would do it and it wouldn't be because I didn't want to work for the firm but I wouldn't be happy sitting, working beside someone who is doing the same job/worse job than me and getting more money, just because they kicked up a fuss like I did and they got their own way. I don't think these things are black and white and booing him/being negative towards him can't help the team. don't know where you work, as some companies sack employees for asking for pay rises Bloody heck, don't fancy working for someone like that! No chance of that!
