I said something similar in the Duff thread, but the fact is its unrealistic. Just imagine it's the World Cup Final (or Champions League, whatever) and Henry is charging into the box and has a swan dive. The ref has to be absolutely certain, zero question at all, in order to send him off. Then you have to factor reputations into it too - are players known as divers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Henry are going to be "gone after"? What happens when a player cleans up his act like Drogba? I appreciate your basic sentiment, agree wholeheartedly, but applying it would be a nightmare! What about retrospective punishment. Okay it doesn't help the team it just happened to but it does punish the player. An example SWP with Elliott last season. I would like to see a ruling where a panel would say that SWP dived so he gets a match or two match ban and Elliott's red card recinded! To make it a red card offence would be very difficult but I feel afterwards its easier to punish!

Cheers mate! All I have to worry about is if Sky suddenly decide to televise the match really! The club box office were crap, I asked is there chance the man city game or the chelsea game maybe moved due to european fixtures and the dumb bint said yeah because we'll probably be home 1st in the UEFA Cup if we go through, I decided to check the fixtures myself and we are not playing the next round til the week before the man city game and if us and Chelsea are in the next round again our European game is the tues/weds/thursday after the clash, so only Sky can stop me now!

I can get tickets for the Chelsea game for the 21st April, I need to book accomodation and flights, I have looked on the sky schedule and the game is not down, do you think there is any chance of them changing it late, because I would be stuffed if the game was changed to Sunday. Any decent hotels to stay in near the ground and not too far from the airport?

It was a dive no argument, if the ref is stupid enough to give it the that his fault. But as long as players get away with it then they will carry on doing it! Duff would think twice if UEFA were to investigate and issue a ban for the dive! But if UEFA or any governing body are not willing to do that then we will carry on seeing it happen. The defense looks far more stable with a proper left back and Nobby at right back. Ramage or Huntington are not left backs and Carr well he is just not a footballer. With Gooch's performances being solid enough in his two games I can see our defence being a lot stronger that it has at times this season. Still poor goal to conceed but happy with the result and general run of the game!

I don't like the finger to lips thing or the cupping of the ears but the crackdown is silly. Like Rosicky's booking the other day was daft, he briefly celebrated with his own fans! Worlds gone mad, alright Cahills boxing the flag is a bit daft but its harmless enough!

Nice turn around for Butt. He is no world beater but on his day can be a very effective player.

I think Owen getting fit will improve Oba's game. In training Owen who has excellent movement will surely rub off on Oba. Raw is a word used in this topic and he has high quality raw talent, this lad has potential to be a major superstar and the chance to work alongside someone like Owen could only benefit him. Pace is something that will frighten the best of defenders. Well done Oba keep it up!

Glad he has been a relative success for us and I really think Roeder would have been out of a job without the guy, but he has his limitations, I think we have seen the best we are going to get from Sibs and I would have preferred to part ways with the guy this summer, then again if we are not going to bring in many reinforcements then again me may need him to make up the numbers!

Distin and Sidwell would interest me. Would be interested in Delaney but given his record of injury and our record of injury I would stay well away!

Why is it when we lose we are S**t when we win we are papering over the cracks? If we were as s**t as people are making out we would be scrapping for relegation, but we are in a healthy position now and with a few players coming back there is a chance to push forward up the table. At least we have a bit of chance of balance in the team!

Nice one Baba for playing in such circumstances. He is the best option we have for left back even though that option is not great, after a decent start to his toon career he has had some very poor games. If he is fit then IMO he must play, but the first position I would target in the summer is left back! I think Nobby can hold his own at RB for now!

Thing is centre halfs at this club will be analysed in fine detail, because of our high profile expensive flops in the past our confidence in new defenders are shot, I feel we are waiting for him to make a mistake because that is what we are used to. He's gonna need more than two games to prove his worth but initial signs seem good and seems a definate impovement on Bramble and Ramage. It would be good to see a long run in the team with Taylor!

At the opening of summer transfer window I was expecting at least the same as last season but hoped for a top6. At the end of the summer I was a bit disgruntled and was thinking of a top 10 finish. 2. Who's been your best performer this season? James Milner, after an indifferent start he has made right wing his own, still a bit raw but still very younger excellent future ahead if he continues improving at this rate. 3. Even though I think he is a top class player I just don't think he would fit in well in the Premiership unless a team was built around him. I don't think fans in this country would have enough patience. Just look at Ballack who I think is an immense player but he is not look great at the moment.

If we allowed him to play and he didn't turn up surely this is a matter between Nigeria and Oba, we have fulfilled our obligations, the only complication I see is if Oba says that we told him not to turn up!

I think Brambles contract may depend on how well Gooch does. But I agree he should not get a new contract. He has had enough chances now and there are too many mistakes in his game, things that are not going to be ironed out. But this is Newcastle so I can see us handing him a new contract!

Gooch could be a load of s****, lets not build the lad up just yet. To be fair to me I did say potential, thats why I mentioned Taylor as well because we may not keep Gooch!

A fully fit Woodgate is the best English defender. If he has a good season at Boro and carries on playing more games I would like to see us make a move. The potential in a partnership betweem Woody and Gooch or Woody and Taylor is immense. At the moment there is still too many questions over his fitness.
