Both teams have increased their expenditure year on year in the Premiership. Swansea sold some of their better players to bigger clubs after the first season but at least re-invested that in the squad. Swansea fans understood the situation they were in, yes they were gutted that better players left but the frustrations were not as bad because of the subsequent expenditure and re-investment. We have a bigger revenue stream than both Swansea and Southampton and as a team are far more established around Europe than them. Players like Bony and Osvaldo would both improve our team yet we wouldn't have paid the prices that Soton and Swansea have. Evidence does seem to suggest they that do try and better themselves so if it were within their grasp I am sure they would try for a CL push. Is it too much to ask to have a player lined up to replace Cabaye, it's not as if it is an out of the blue sale. I would imagine that many people expected a Cabaye sale, but why can't we show ambition and tell him "give us to the summer, let us sign some players and push for CL, if we don't get it then we'll grant you a transfer if our valuation is met" rather than just accept that everybody has their price. We don't need to be told that, other clubs don't need to be told that. Look at the difference in stances between us and Cabaye as opposed to Liverpool and Suarez or Man Utd and Rooney. Yes they are bigger clubs but the players involved are also bigger. We could have handled this a lot better.

Sadly that's the case with a lot of viewpoints. Maybe we should all come and join you in La La Land with Tinky Winky and Po, eh Ian? Ashley could turn up in the middle of the night with JFK and spit roast your Mrs and you'd come on here to say it could've been worse, Llambias could've been there too. f***ing hell, we get that people have differing views but to take them to the extreme every time just makes you look like you're on a wind up/craving attention. It's bordering on mental this like lads... what have I said to make you think I believe everything's great? Or that I love either Ashley or JFK? It's actually like my posts exist in a parallel universe where everybody has a frontal lobotomy before being allowed to read. Everything that's not an outpouring of hate is put down as 'being in la-la land'. Genuinely worrying that this is how people form opinions. Whatever the scenario, whatever the general temperament and whatever the downside you consistently seek to spin it into a positive Ian. That's great but you're constant desire to turn s*** news, s*** decisions and s*** management into acceptance of our overall position in the big wide world of football is f***ing nauseating. I'm a NUFC fan who wants my team to compete on every single level, who wont accept not trying in cups, who wont accept anything other than maximum effort to achieve the highest place finish possible with the squad available to us and who absolutely detests being told that we can't compete or we can't match other clubs who are 'bigger'. f*** that, what's the point? This is a simple game of best 11 Vs best 11 and with the right set up and application, we can give any team in the world a game. Do you think we were the biggest club in the world when KK arrived the first time? We were on the cusp of extinction and within a few short years we were an absolute powerhouse, all driven along by total commitment and effort from those running the club. I hang on to that feel good factor not because we nearly won a title but because everyone believed that we could achieve great things. Don't make the mistake of thinking football has changed which locks NUFC out. It doesn't. We've changed. We've allowed ourselves to float along to virtual non-existence. I don't ever recall people crying because AC Milan might want one of our stars. I remember laughing at s*** like that because we believed in the bigger picture, in the general direction of the club. I don't see why we can't achieve this now if the current owner applied himself and gave the football club and it's fans something to shout about. You continue to accept the current situation if you wish, but I'll continue to demand better if it's all the same to you. The frustrating thing is that we are not even looking for stupid money to be thrown around the place. A lot of us criticised Freddy Shepherd for that. We are looking for decent investment, I wouldn't say Swansea or Soton were throwing money around in the summer but they invested in their squad, ok Swansea have struggled but thats not the point I am making, both teams have spent a decent amount of money to try and push on, it seems that Mike Ashley is happy with status quo as long as the status quo is in the top 10. Modest investment each transfer window could see us competing higher in the table. The league has been so open this season that if we kept Cabaye and added a few more players that we could even have an outside chance of a battle for 4th place. We are in a decent financial position, I like that we are more cautious with our funds these days, however, there is cautious and then there is a complete lack of ambition unfortunately we fall into the latter.

Give over.. Flipping heck, give me what is happening this season over last season any day of the week. Last season was horrendous, the more and more it went on thinking the shit would hit the fan. This season is more of a frustration, especially the cups, but we have had some amazing wins this season and a really good run could see us flirt with a Europa League place. Frustrating as well thinking a modest investment in the playing squad would further enhance those ambitions from unlikely to a realistic opportunity.

Had Nasri not got injured I don't think there would be any debate, 9 times out of 10 cynical challenges like that do not end up with a player getting injured certainly to the extent of Nasri.

I suppose it's borderline red? No intention for the ball yet if Nasri doesn't get injured Charlie Nicholas says it's a good foul to make, didn't he say that for the Zabaleta yellow?

Mrs Tisd still can't believe 5 of so hours later that I'm still sighing and s*** over that decision. "It can't be that bad" As if she did. I had to go and stand in the f***ing rain for 5 mins...

I'm not sure if a time penalty is workable, I like the idea of physio's on the pitch like the rugby however, like someone said plays in football are more unpredictable than rugby. However, I am in strong belief that retrospective action is a way forward. Winning a penalty via a dive or getting a player booked or sent off because of a dive should lead to more severe punishment.

Was worried after a poor first 5-10 mins but since then we have been the better team. If only we could get Moussa or Remy in the positions Debuchy has been in. Debuchy after an indifferent start to his Newcastle career must be one of if not the best RB's in the league? Cabaye a little quiet today not on the ball as much as I would like some nice passes from him though.

Anal Oliver is such a bell. Taylor and Jonas "frozen out" by Pardew. They've hardly been frozen out, Taylor especially, if it wasn't for a stupid red card and injury he would have played ahead of Williamson. Williamsons subsequent form has kept him out and quite righly MYM is ahead of Taylor. As for Jonas quite rightly he is shouldn't be near our starting 11.

Look at his smarmy face lol..... Just hope he has a grin like that next time we play the Mackems.!

If we are willing to dump all the shite on Pardew when we are on a losing streak or play pathetically then we need to praise him somewhat for the last 4 games against varying opposition. Title contenders beaten, top 6 contenders beaten, relegation battles beaten, a team considered on same level as us beaten. I refuse to believe that it was solely down to luck or that we won despite Pardew. I've called him all sorts on here this season and even called for his head, but to be fair to him this run of form he needs to be praised for.

Would love to see a Sholagoal sometime soon. Played very well on Saturday, justifying his place in the team at the moment no doubt. I agree with some that given he had the whole game on Saturday that he may get rested for Swansea on Wednesday, but unless Cisse or HBA have a cracker I'd have him back in to rough up Rio...

Loves that Willo is turning it around, becoming a bit of a cult hero. Just knew he would take one for the team near the end v Anichebe when he got clattered. He seems a good honest pro, he's aware of his limitations and has taken his chance that was handed to him this season. Should be an inspiration to all our fringe players. Really glad to be proven wrong with Willo, was all doom and gloom when we were originally forced to use him.

Thick as mince that lad. Why post "banter" like that? Someone said it a few pages back just a bit of banter between team mates but as a standalone post on social media it is bad taste at best, can see how some may take offence to it.

I'd go out with a pint with Pardew, won't be too long until we are charming some chicks :) Then I'd get him hammered and pay for a cab home for him but tell the cab driving to drop the bassa somewhere near the SOL. Sounds like a good night.

Lets hope Palace offer a too good to turn down package for Pardew. It just won't happen will it?? Under normal circumstances I would be highly embarrased if a manager left us for relegation probabilities, but given our circumstances I'd be over the moon. That is until JFK steps in as our saviour.

Gillespie was a quality player that got somewhere near his potential for a short amount of time and then lost it. His pace was blistering and he was quite direct, used to frighten the crap out of defenders. Someone mentioned Graham Fenton, I think I am still pychologically scarred from his two goals against us for Blackburn, I'm sure I had nightmares for weeks of Sky Sports commenators just repeating "The Newcastle Fan Graham Fenton" horrible few weeks that was.

Been impressed with him the past few games. Is it the responsability of being captain that has sorted him out or has he just evaluated and got back to what he's been doing best. Even super tough Tiote was back last night, when Rodwell fell on his leg I thought it was over for him.

Is Cisse fatigued? Sure he is - its the emotional strain of only scoring one goal this season. We as fans should have sympathy for our players and manager, Pardew was at work for 30 mins longer last night, thats going to effect the time he has to work on his game plan for Saturday. Don't forget its an early kick off as well. The whole football world and media are conspiring against Pardew. Oh man this is depressing stuff. When will this pain end?

That was better from him last night, he actually trapped the ball and passed it to a team mate at times. Still nowhere near where we need him to be. Just looks like he cacks himself everytime the ball comes near him. I think he needs to score a worldie of a goal that may bring the confidence back. I doubt we'll ever see the goal machine of his 1st half season at the club but I refuse to believe what we seeing now is the best we'll get out of Cisse? Maybe I am being naive? Would have been such a confidence boost for him had he tucked away that chance in ET last night, probably would have been the winner and he would have been a hero again.
