Steve Curry (Daily Hate) labels NUFC as 'Joke'. Are we?
Tisd09 replied to Jay Jay Sea's topic in Football
I wonder what all these media people will say if this turns out to be a success? I am sure some of them will back track big style. I don't get all the stigma with Mike Ashley spending times with the fans? The guy has ploughed millions in the club if he wants to soak up the atmosphere with the rest of the fans so be it. I don't think it reflects badly on us, our chairman the head of our club is in the Directors box he is the face of the club. I can't remember too many criticisms of Matthew Harding watching the games at Stamford Brigde with the fans, infact they used to bring that up as a positive spin "man of the people" -
He keeps on getting these chances but I think most of us know he just cannot cut it at the highest level, but we do not have many choices at the moment, so until Martins comes back or if we sign someone then I want him to stay. In the summer though I hope he moves on. Pity for the lad as I believe he wants the best for the Toon, I see him being a very effective Championship player. If that fat nugget for Stoke can be a handful in teh Championship then surely Shola can to.

I wouldn't mind Beckham at the club. My worry is that he could make a big impact he is that type of player, and we would have to leave him go back to Galaxy in March, if their season starts end of March beginning of April then they will want him back way before that. I can't see Galaxy letting him go to us on a permanent deal as they have invested so much.
-
There is a report that he is available for loan and I would like to see him here for a few months plus we are not wasting any of the kitty.
-
Butts long range passing may not be great but I think his short passing is good and I think he will feed Zoggy and the wide men far quicker than Rozzy which may see a more fluid quicker attack than we seen on Saturday evening.
-
I think Butt in for Roz and if Smith was in for Shola it would have made a big difference. Even though some of Roz's long range passes were quality he did nowhere near enough for me. If we can have Butt and Emre in CM with Zoggy left and Duff right I think we'll see a big difference in our playing style to be honest. The midfield seemed so stop start at times.

Someone mentioned how infectious Keegan has been since his re-arrival. Its so true when the news first broke I was so so, but the more I seen of him and then the press conference I was actually chuffed to be bits. How can you fail to support this man so far, he knows the exact words to say. I can't wait for the game later, even though I will be watching on tele I am sure that the atomshpere will come through loud and clear. I really hope the result goes the right way today, with the crowd that will be roaring the players on we are set up for a win. Come on the Toon. Unfinished buiness Keegan please lead us to the finished buiness and hopefully glory.
-
Whilst eventually I would like better options I would definately keep him as a squad player. His lack of pace is his biggest downfall as a winger and I am just not sure whether he is good enough for CM his preferred position.

Thats CRAZY talk mate. Berbatov will be on the bench and Owen in the reserves surely!!

I seen Coleman was mentioned this morning, plus he resigned from Sociedad yesterday so there could be some go in that one.
-
I would say leading Monaco to the Champions League final and Juve from Serie B to A would all add up on his CV to be honest.

We have used tried and tested in the past. At the time Allardyce seemed a great choice by us. A strong methodical character, who had a good record and it got us nowhere at the time he was more likely to get it right than Roeder and Souness. Don't get me wrong I would prefer a more established manager in place than Shearer, like Deschamps or Houllier. But look a Deschamps he moved into management at a big club like Monaco overall on the European scene they are not big but neither are we. However, I would take Shearer over someone like Harry Redknapp. I am not pointing the finger at anyone but at the moment is seems the cool thing to do is knock Shearer. If he was asked the same questions and remained in silence he would still get criticised. We all know he wants to manager the club at some point and if someone is willing to offer him the job why should he turn it down, do you think he should turn it down and say well actually I'd rather cut my teeth at Bury first as they are looking for a new manager?
-
Why has he been so averse to getting his hands dirty learning the management trade elsewhere rather than farting about on MOTD for the last 2 years or so? He knows he has influence but rather than build upon that he's relying on it. Would learning the trade elsewhere guarentee him success at Newcastle? Allardyce had got his hands dirty in the past and where did that get us? Handling a bigger club is obviously far different from handling a big club, many that have been good at the small clubs has found this out. Equally if Wenger or Fergie took over at Bury or Wrexham there are no guarentees of success, it is a totally different job, Fergie or Wenger maybe shite managers in the lower leagues. Would you take Martinez who has done well at Swansea? He has picked up experience and cut his teeth elsewhere?
-
At least Southgate and Merson will be happy now, for some reason they thought he should have done this months ago, but he is under no obligation to do anything. He has been on holiday and told us his thoughts on that matter, its not quite a come and get me plea but he say look I am here to listen, also from that article it seems like he will listen to an offer as an assistant aswell. Why are some people so sure he will fail?
-
He has actually turned Swansea from a decent League 1 team to one of if not the best League 1 team. Leeds would be top if they didn't have their points deduction this season but at times Swansea have been awesome lately. Martinez has got Swansea playing free flowing football but the team can get stuck in aswell. Don't think he is quite right for the Newcastle job at the moment. He has only been in management for a year and a half and has yet had to deal with a crisis or a major drop in form. A good test next season will be if Swansea do get to the Championship, it will be a tough old season there.

Can this appointment work? Alot of people on here seem so sure it won't work and I am not sure what they are basing it on. Look at our other appointments barring Souness and Roeder. Dalglish, Gullit and Allardyce. All were experienced and had relative success elsewhere before the Toon. On paper these would be far more qualified than Shearer to be successful at Newcastle but they all failed miserably. The majority of fans thought that Dalglish would be the missing link between us and success and is was a disaster. At the moment Shearer is the man I would like to see manage us. It is a gamble but so would Mourinho or anyone of that ilk, there would be no guarentees of success if Ferguson or Wenger took charge. In an ideal world it would be Mourinho but if we are not going to get someone like him I sooner see Shearer in charge than someone like Harry Redknapp. Experience is important but not everything. Mark Hughes at the time turned around Welsh football. He came in with no experince and was a whisker away from qualifying for a major tourney, we should have really, a excellent away draw with Russia and we brought them back to the red hot atmosphere of the Millenium Stadium and we blew it. Since the Welsh job he has done well with Blackburn and brought in good players. Experience needs to be gained somewhere, but there is no guarentees that if Shearer spent 3 seasons at Darlington and did well that he would be any better qualified to be boss of Newcastle.

He was only telling Viduka about his bets that afternoon!
-
It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth the way he was let go. As he was getting older he would have been perfect to move upstairs and help out a new manager. That way we wouldn't have to gone into panic mode and appoint Souness we could have got a younger manager who Bobby could have helped tutored. Don't think he is well enough to have a hands on role at the club but as some kind of advisor that would be great.

I don't care now I may be heartless who gives a shit but if Ronaldo's career is over tonight I won't have any sympathy. If it makes me a cunt so fucking what.
-
Not bad, though if Rooney had his shooting boots on we could be in trouble. Message to rob styles if you are not giving a penalty for the the Ronaldo challenge (which was correct) then why is there no booking? In that situation is was clearly simulation the fucker should be booked that riles me so much book the cunt and he may actually stop diving eventually.
-
I think some of the sackings have been harsh this season but then again there is only so much shit boards can put up with. In Allardyce's case though I am still not 100% whether it was the right decision (especially if he's replaced by Harry). However, Allardyce showed no signs of improvement. After that draw against Arsenal we should have really kicked on, a dream December fixture list barring Chelsea we should be comfortable top 10 by now but he blew it so nobody can really knock the board or the fans for wanting a change.
-
Is anyone else hoping this is just one huge smokescreen? Mike Ashley watches the games with the fans, surely when disguntled fans where shouting for Big Sam out they didn't mention Redknapp at all? I think more people are against this than Roeder and Souness and that is saying something. I am really no happy with this move if it comes off. Before he took over Newcastle I would have regarded Big Sam a far better manager than Harry Redknapp. If he got appointed of course he would get my full support but I see us 5 months down the line speculating who our 3rd manager under Ashley will be.

Why has the kid near the front got giant gloves on, could he not afford a foam hand?
-
this. sideways but slightly backwards imo pretty much this. sideway but slightly forwards for me. We need more than slightly forwards though.
-
Totally agree with that. Could you imagine the uproar if this kind of link came about under Freddy, he'd be called all sorts by now.
