No doubting he's a nice guy, but I still have big questions regarding his tactical nous. I recall that even some of our wins last season were really terrible football and 3 or 4 injuries this season will see us with the same team out. Getting raped by Wigan, Bolton or Sunderland will not be easy to take; and from comments in the PSV thread I am also seriously worried about him supposedly wanting to narrow the pitch and the quality of widemen available should our first choice 2 be unavailable.
This is a very good signing for the short-term. I had serious concerns about the depth and standard of our CD after Tavernier made his appearance at Norwich, kind of brought home just how precarious it was. This improves things no end.
Wonder if he got his 2 yr contract?
Also can't help but feel if this guy is available there'd be a lot of interest, which would probably leave us near the starting post in terms of an attractive option.
He cost 11m euro in 2008, what price now? Can anyone see Ashley spending half that? He fits the profile of others we've signed recently, young etc. but the difference is this guy can actually play football and would cost a lot.
Best has the potential to form a decent partnership with him, being an off the shoulder of the last defender/poacher type of striker. Whether they gel together, Best finds a steady form at this level and Carroll learns to direct flick-ons ala Shearer.. well that's a lot of maybes to come together but it's not impossible.
Here's one of the most reasoned responses, or as the guy himself says - rational opinion. Doesn't really make for inspiring reading, but the very reason he never played so consistently may be that he was played in so many positions. Clutching at straws with fingers crossed.
Just had John Terry on the TV behind me saying they could still qualify and believed they would. It was a flat proclamation, no emotion, no belief. This guy is captain?
edit:
I never saw the whole thing, clearly.
