  1. I can't help but remember how forlorn and helpless Hughton looked when he was in charge before, he had no idea how to motivate or change tactics. That in a large part was down to the overall mood of the team, they were mostly all miserable unmotivated twats - leading to the lack of teamwork if you like. That all seems to have changed now with a lot of the 'big stars' gone, seems to have led to an improvement in the dressing room and subsequent increase in playing commitment and desire. IF there's any unease in there, (with the Argies and Barton for instance), they keep their other troubles off the pitch and just get on with it. What I'm suggesting is the turnaround in form is as more down to the players (the mood of the camp) than anything Hughton has done, and there's no way in hell I'd give Hughton the job before he'd proved himself going through a really bad run of results and coping with such hiccups as player power etc. A potential Roeder all over again. Shearer commands respect naturally, he's a born leader. True he doesn't have experience, no more than Hughton, but the Chamionship is a better place to get a season under your belt than the unforgiving Premiership. But does he have to be manager? Of course not, but it seems an ideal time to give him a go imo.
  2. But what wages do those three command, and some others besides? I'd hazard a guess we have the highest wagebill in the Championship. Just as well we also have the best supporters eh! We better get promoted if Ashley doesn't sell us. Actually, we better get promoted anyway.
  3. To be fair, Snoozefest 2003 was actually a lot more entertaining than the last 500+ pages of whispers, bullshit, exaggerated half truths and witterings by mad men. Mad men witterings is where it's at baby. We're all mad Parky, some of us just realise it.
  4. If the Americans did fly in for a meeting with SP it would suggest something is imminent, pretty sure businessmen at that level don't fly halfway round the world to discuss minor details that need ironing out, or at least not without the view that they CAN be ironed out and progress rapidly from there. So I'm a little excited, but I swear it's the last time I'll ever get excited if it comes to nowt!
  5. Fair bit of skill there, and humour. Someone should do one for our shambles, just covering the last 7 or 8 years mind, wouldn't want it too long.
  6. Just like on FM. just the 3 on DAB aswell Funniest post of the thread award.
  7. That there is the problem, there are a lot of people who really don't have any common sense.
  8. I think Hughton has done the right thing playing quite a few reserves, sure it would be nice to win, but longterm?, out of this cup is doing us a favour.
  9. That it: justify yourself. Justify yourself to a man called Crumpy Gunt. Cracks me up sometimes does Crumpy. Starts quite a few threads and then never posts in them again, probably just sitting there chuckling at the shitstorm half of them create.
  10. Not so long back most were voting for the Malaysians a couple of days after the stories appeared in the press, now everyone is voting for the Americans - without having a clue what either of those parties would have brought (or will bring) to the table. I just want a steady ship with some ambition thrown in, I'd vote for that.

Don't ask, the answer is too long in the telling and too many suicides.
  12. Its an extremely poor league which we should win comfortably. I take it you're considering the great depth of squad we have when you so confidently make that statement?
  13. Darren Ambrose 12-1 first goal, 5-1 for any goal. Not backing anyone to score against us but that's the way our script runs all too often.
  14. There was a proper leader at the club end of last season in the shape of Shearer, Joey had a bust up with him too according to reports - I don't know?
  15. Don't think Hughton will change anything bar perhaps dropping Nolan for Barton, personally I'd like to see Krul and Ranger start with Kadar coming on at the first sight of a wobble from Collo.
  16. Someone listens to Talk Sport and reads too much Louise Taylor. The only people who spout that s**** are the lazy journos who don't have a clue about the area. I think that's his point entirely. He's not saying that's what he thinks himself he's saying that's what other people think and it's for exactly the reasons you've identified. Thank you Indi, that is exactly my point. The press in the UK have so much power, as Napoleon said "I fear the newspapers more than a thousand bayonets." This is a perfect example of the power of the press and the sponge-like lazy readers. Back in the day when Keegan had the team playing flowing, attacking football we were everyone's favourite second club, the neutral loved to watch us and Sky dubbed us 'The Entertainers'. Purely because Sky termed us in such a fashion many more would have turned on to see what the deal was. Like everything else in this country, something/someone gets built up too high and it's time for jealousy and envy to kick in and some sections start to knock down the edifice they have built. Before you know it everything has come full circle and the object of previous adulation is now one of scorn and ridicule. The press do all that, others just read it and absorb. That's where the image of Newcastle United is now, not very popular. Not winning anything also contributed to the fall from grace, or accelerated it at least.
  17. That's what some said about Dyer too, but I'd have Dyer back over this guy tbh.
  18. With a better partner Carroll will. Carroll just needs a nippy twat (Ranger) up front as he wins 90% of the flick-on's he goes for.
