He does tick most boxes and when you sit and analyse what the likes of Mourinho and Rafa are good at - two similar managers in their approach and methods - he is equal in many respects. He lacks their experience and pedigree of course but I'm hoping that will come with managing Newcastle. He certainly has the right tools to prove himself in their company if you like not only within himself but through the club too with our fanbase, finances and untapped potential. I can never make my mind up if they are actually tactically ahead of him in overall setting a side out...Mourinho is a big reader of the game...At his best when he is moody mind or when he's just lost his dog. Match preparation is where it's at and Big Sam is as good as any in that respect and certainly up there with the likes of Mourinho, if not better. Tactically Mourinho is arguably ahead of everyone else during the game, his mind as you say, is very sharp and he reads the game so well. Many a time he alone has affected a result with his tactics, subs or plain old mind games. He's streets ahead of most. However I've always said if you keep being forced into making tactical changes and changes to your lineup during the game then there is a chink in your match preparation. There has been many a time where Mourinho has fielded the wrong starting 11 and started with the wrong tactics and sometimes no amount of changes during the game can reverse that, ala Villa at the weekend. Its during the match where i think Allardyce is far weaker.

you're wrong about Taylor. agree, lots of people on here are saying Taylor isnt very good He will eventually brake into englands starting 11 within 2-3 seasons also he is young and doesnt make many mistakes anymore anyone actually watching Taylor play, on and off the ball, can see that he has removed a lot of the problems he caused himself in the past, even as recently as the start of last season. he's a first team starter for me, shoudl have been captain as well, above Geremi, who can't even be given the excuse of being new to the PL for soem of his dismal showings so far. Taylor captain?! He's a decent defender with potential, you talk about Geremi's "dismal" showings yet Taylor has been piss poor this season, nearly cost us the game against Villa by fannying around with it and easily out muscled by Mido for Boro's goal. He had as many bad games as good ones last season too. he appears (althoguht he stats thing has been interesting) to have played better than Geremi so far. Out of the limited choices we had, he'd have been my choice. Geremi, in my opinion, was too new to be captain.

in fairness: not every stupid comment gets rebuffed by any club, so they wouldn't necessarily comment on whether or not wrong-face Bruce was offered the job. and neither Smith or Barton are england regulars, are they. In fact, there is an argument that Smith shouldn't really be there at all, as surely no-one would argue that he is international class! I'm not saying Allardyce hasn't bought well in most cases, because he has. but Barton and Smith? Not exactly first team internationals if we're honest, are they.
