No, the risk is still in our favour as he goes back if we don't stay up. Well yeah. Exactly why I dont understand why someone would want us to sign him now permanently but not get him on loan with an agreed deal in place for next summer. Again I'll refer you to Zaki with Wigan and Benitez at Birmingham. By agreed price I mean that a deal is made now and we pay later like the rumours are suggesting. Dont think that's similar to Zaki at all as they only had an agreed price, not agreed deal?
-
Not necessarily. I would like a permanent signing or a loan with an option to buy. But loan with compulsory purchase isn't how these deals usually work, it seems like too much in favour of the selling club. He could play terribly, ruin the team spirit or whatever, and we would still have to buy him. With the loan with the option to buy, both parties share the risk. If he does well, he'll cost a buyer more at the end, if he does shit we don't have to buy him but we've taken him off their wage bill for a season. Out of not signing him at all and signing him in that way, I'm not sure which I'd prefer. But we should definitely try to avoid it if possible. But what is actually the difference between signing him permanently now or signing him on a loan with agreed transfer next summer? The risk is the same, no? Well if we sign him permanently now his value can increase or decrease depending on how he plays for us. We could get him cheap now and make a profit, for example. With a loan and optional purchase, we have a season to assess him and the club's situation and make another decision later. In that case Marseille might benefit because he performs well and they can charge us more, or they might lose out in the opposite situation. So risk shared. In the case of loan with compulsory purchase, we have to buy him for his current value even if his stock goes down... risk all on us. I didnt ask about the difference between a transfer and a loan because I knew what that is So the two options are: Option a) "Well if we sign him permanently now his value can increase or decrease depending on how he plays for us. We could get him cheap now and make a profit, for example. " Option b) "In the case of loan with compulsory purchase, we have to buy him for his current value even if his stock goes down... risk all on us." Are you honestly trying to say there's some difference between these two

So I assume the people who are arguing against this loan & buy next summer wouldnt want to us to buy him all upfront either?
-
It's irrelevant? No its not. It's got everything to do with his valuation.

Mike and Chris heard the news that Barfa is training by himself in the Southern France and went looking for the lad.......

I honestly spent 10 minutes looking for this thread. Guess that confirms the "no one reads stickies" rule.

Havent you heard? We're signing Ben Arfa again...
-
Woohoo did you hear we're signing this Arfa lad! Come on Ashley you legend!
-
So where will Ben Arfa fit in their team if they get this Wesley guy? Doesnt seem like he would get to play in his favourite position....
-
Really starting to hate hughton, talks a good game, nice chap, but really don't think he has it in regards to identifying the players we need You are blaming Hughton? Jesus wept. He was already insane before this whole Ben Arfa thing really got started and he certanly hasnt got any better during it... Neesy that is, not Chris.

Maybe he thought that a photo of him at the Newcastle airport would get some action to Bremen

Sometimes words fail me. Every other f***ing post tbh. His post is exactly what's wrong with a lot on here you included. It's always Ashley's fault, you can't see the wood for the trees and always see the pessimism in any transfer situation regarding Newcastle. What a f***ing dimwit you are. Whose fault is it then that we wouldn't pay a ridiculously low fee for a young French international? It's nothing to do with paying fee's. Marseille said to him, go and find a new club. He didn't say I want to leave, they told him to go, so he did everything became agreed, then some other clubs came sniffing around and they got greedy and decided to start moving the goalposts so to speak. The interested parties such as Benfica decided against it when they found out his wage demands, all the while we were still under the idea of a loan for 800k. They started demanding more money claiming more interest when there really wasn't. Rightly or wrongly, I believe rightly we said no because we had a deal in place, and the player was doing it all on his own by refusing to train. I think we were right to hold our position, they wanted an outright purchase, we didn't, and with good reason. He's a fantastic talent no doubt about that I'd love to have him here, but he has undeniable attitude problems, there's nothing stopping him pulling this with us when a bigger club comes in. If come September 1st , we have no one of similar potential or in that position, then I will openly criticise the club for not having contingency plans should this deal collapse. But to make out like we've dithered and made excuses is daft. They've tried to be greedy and we've not budged. Trying to get him on loan to me showed we weren't totally confident in him With good reason, too. Given his record of trouble at previous clubs, it would have been madness to try and buy him. Marseilles haven't exactly been stampeded with offers - most clubs were steering well clear. I've never been convinced that this move would work out, so I'm not too bothered. so would you prefer a team of kevin nolan's to players of quality that's right out of the gordon lee / graeme souness hand book of how not to manage Fuck me.

Maybe he just decided that 72k in Germany is better than 45k in England.....

Understandably.
