oh dear. You are talking different levels of the game for starters. Poor old Chelsea, runners up in the league, League Cup Winners, FA Cup Finalists, and european cup semi finalists. The manager judges the player. He says to his chairman "this player is worth the fee that is being asked". The chairman goes to his board with a recommendation from the manager. The club have the money. The club backs their managers judgement, if they have the money, if they don't, its hard lines. I have said this so many times. This is how it works. If the board have the money, and don;t back their manager and his judgement and recommendations, they are a s**** board. I'm not explaining this again. Clearly Jon you will never understand. There is little hope for you. You didnt answer the second part of the question... Btw im surprised that you dont think that defenders are as important as strikers. You said that you support Newcastle long time ago.Can you tell me then why did we lose the title in 95/96 season, also under SBR we were close too. Why? Under KK we had great team, great strikers, great midfielders,and....average/poor defence. Under SBR it was the same.We had Woodgate who was playing with clowns like Dabizas,O'Brien,Hughes... Its strange that you still cant understand that the strong defence wins you things.Thats not my words.Sir Alex Ferguson said that long time ago=Good defenders wins you trophies we came 2nd in the league. We conceded less than a goal a game. Everton won the FA Cup in 1995 yet conceded 4 more goals than we did in the league. How do you explain this ? And its only one example. There are numerous reasons why NUFC didn't win the league that year, but it was not down to having a "bad" defence. We did come 2nd because we had a great attack. Please tell me when we last had an attack like this and finished 2nd [repeated the following year after a more defensive minded manager took over], and then the following year with the same manager, dived down the league and finished 13th, yet conceded more goals ? Why was this ? I'm not repeating this again to you. In my opinion, based on watching the club and evaluating the players, the performance of the team is very weak from an attacking point of view. We have conceded possession in forward positions and been put under pressure too often as a consequence. This must improve - a lot - if we are to move up the league. Dont you consider the chance that we are weak from an attacking point of view not because we dont have the quality players but because our manager is too incompetent for this kind of job? mackems.gif Its sad that someone old enough and intelligent as you to think only this as a response I had better opinion about you as far as knowledge is concern I guess i was wrong

A couple of days before Berbatov signed for Spurs there was a late bid from Man Utd to hijack the deal and that was widely reported in the media. He opted to make the move to Spurs with the ITV website saying: Now we all know that football is about money these days, but as Berbatov showed by turning down a move to Manchester United in the summer, it is also about quality of footballing life. Playing week-in and week-out is the only way a player is going to be able to prove himself to the team and to the fans, and that is what Berbatov has been allowed to do. It's correct to say Berbatov has said he would prefer for Man Utd ahead of Chelsea, but he then did go on to say that Chelsea's style of play wouldn't suit him at all. He has effectively said to Spurs that he wants to see further progression, so do we all. All the indications are that he is not seeking a move this summer and Spurs are under no pressure to sell him, he is under a long contract and Spurs are currently awash with money having declared a profit of £20m for the last 6 months in the interim accounts. Mansion and Puma have both said they would be disappointed to see any high profile sales and their sponsorship is worth £13.5m each year. Spurs wouldn't want to upset one of their main sources of income. In short, Spurs don't want to sell him, Berbatov is happy to stay and Spurs would upset fans and sponsors alike if they sold him. That's why I believe there is no prospect of him being sold no matter what bid is made for him. You are more aware of the situation at Spurs so you are probably right Still think that the only 2 ways Berbatov will leave is if Chelsea/Man Utd made some lunatic bids for him above 25m or if he jumps at the chance to play for one of the biggest, richest, famous clubs in the world. If he joins Chelsea or Man Utd he will be playing with the best players in the world and the Champions of England.Thats pretty strong reasons if you ask me

I was thinking the same 2 players I wouldnt complain too much if we sign them

Arsenal for sure One of the main reasons apart from Henry being the main factor in their plan game is the fact that Wenger is relying on too many young players.I always respected Wenger about the fact that he is developing young players into top Premiership players.Nevertheless its obvious that Arsenal are the most likely to drop from the top 4 in the upcoming seasons. They almost did that last season and qualify in the Champions league mainly because of Tottenham failure to win against West Ham. ATM Chelsea,Man Utd and Liverpool are way ahead of the others clubs in the Premiership

http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=464534&CPID=8&clid=4&lid=2&title=Roeder+looking+for+experience Roeder looking for experience Newcastle chief Glenn Roeder is ready to change tack in order to boost his defensive options. The Magpies boss missed out on the chance to sign Sol Campbell last summer as he made it clear he wanted to bring in emerging talents rather than players over the age of 30. This policy has backfired though, as Newcastle's defence has been its usual porous self while Campbell has enjoyed something of an Indian summer with Portsmouth. And with the futures of Titus Bramble, Craig Moore and loan signing Oguchi Onyewu in some doubt, Roeder is set to scour all areas of the market to boost his options. "I would like a central defender this side of 26 and an experienced one over 30 with a big CV and successful playing career," said Roeder. Roeder's comments could fuel suggestions that Newcastle may attempt to revive their interest in Campbell this summer, particularly as The Magpies feel Steven Taylor will derive great benefit from playing alongside an experienced stopper. Im all against Roeder staying as our manager next season but if he stays i hope that he actually signs one 26 and one above 30 CB's http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=464560&CPID=8&clid=4&lid=&title=Krul+eyes+loan+move Newcastle keeper Tim Krul has stated his intention to boost his experience by heading out on loan next season. The Dutch youngster is highly regarded at Newcastle and showed exactly why during one senior appearance this season, when keeping a clean sheet during the Uefa Cup win over Palermo. His progress was halted by a knee injury, but he made his return against a Wolves junior XI on Saturday and has set out his stall to enjoy a good pre-season before heading out on loan. "There are no problems with the injury. In fact, I feel I've come back stronger because I've done a lot of work on my upper body," he told the club's official website. "My plan is to continue to work hard over the summer and hopefully go out on loan next season to get some more experience, although nothing is definite." Glad to see him back.Hopefully he will be 3th choice goalkeeper next season IMO he should be 2nd choice in 2-3 years time.

1-2 months ago Berbatov manager Emil Danchev said that its almost certain that he will stay at Tottenham next season. The reasons-Tottenham invested alot of money on him and dont want to lose him so quickly, they want to build strong team around him. That was 2 months ago. Now the situation maybe is starting to change.I say maybe Berbatov is playing better and better every game and he is catching the eye of Man Utd and Chelsea Some time ago he said that he would prefer to join Man Utd rather then Chelsea.I also think thats what he will do if its between one of the teams above that wants to sign him.His style of play suits him perfectly at Man Utd. Tottenham are saying that they rejected an offer around 25m but i doubt it that if any serious offer comes in the summer for him Tottenham would have the power to reject it

still is Good call........Roeder likes to sign guys like Repka & Gooch for defence. ;D Allyrdace will make Thuram and Campbell play until they are 38 imo

I'm no defender of Roeder but comparing his substitution options with Mourihno's isn't a fair comparison. Look at Chelsea's bench compared to ours. Our bench this season was mainly kids and average squad players not internationals brought in for huge fees. Just about all the players on Chelsea's bench would make our starting 11. It does't really matter who is on the bench, it's showing that he is trying to do something when Plan A isn't working. If Plan A doesn't work, I'd like Plan B to be tried, even if that ultimately doesn't work either. But Roeder isn't the only one. My criticism of Jol is his reluctance to change the gameplan. Against Sevilla we conceded 2 goals in the first 10 minutes, needed 4 to go through. Defoe sat on the bench till the 70th minute. He may not have made the slightest bit of difference but fans want to see the effort to change things around being made. But after all Jol did the right thing when he played Defoe who scored with his first touch.Maybe he put him on a little bit too late but nevertheless he tried to change the game and to win it.You didnt go through mainly because of the misses made by Berbatov and Dawson. You played great that game and deserved to go through. And then when you make the comparison with Roeder and the game against AZ.We were losing 2:0 and needed a goal he put on Emre on 59min who was injured for a long time and was out of shape and in the 86th minute played Zoggy instead of Hunty. What a clown. He put on 2 midfielders when he had Luque and Carroll on the bench. At least he should have tried to score a goal by playing one of them... ROEDER= CLUELESS and INCOMPETENT

Which of course everyone knows isn't what you posted the first time, dimwit. But its related to what i posted before pretty Against Reading up front we had Martins and Owen and our attacking power was non existent Im sure that against Blackburn and Watford it will be the same scenario Roeder is just incompetent and he cant get the best out of the players no matter who they are(Bramble or Terry) (Ameobi or Drogba),(Emre or Gerard)... Didnt you understand that the manager is the most important thing when it comes to how successful some club is going to be? Ah,forgot...You are 13 years old...go play with your LEGO and come back after 5-6 years when you have realized this mackems.gif What a genius comment Keep it up pretty

We must have top priority though
-
I've heard some opinions about how we should buy strikers and midfielders first and that should be our top priority in the summer when it comes to strengthen the team IMO our top priorities in the summer must be the LB and CB positions. We need at least 2 top class CB's,one top class LB for start. When we find and sign this players then if they are any money from the transfer budget left then we should try and sign some creative midfielder.Someone who can dribble past players, someone who can score goals, someone who can place the final ball to Owen and Martins. Only then when we will(eventually) strengthen our defence and sign some good creative midfielder we should be looking for striker-s. IMO our top priority in the summer should be strengthening the defence... What about you??? Where is our weak spot in the team? ;D You can vote for 2 positions

and we failed to score against the smoggies, charlton, man city and wigan because ? You and others can spout these one off statistics as much as you like, but my opinion - and one or two others I suspect - is borne out of watching and looking at the pattern of the team, the shape, and weaknesses in their general style of play and performance in games. It is a fact that Martins and Owen are the only 2 good strikers we have. And it is extremely doubtful if they will play together. Therefore we need one top striker, at least. That doesn't even begin to address the lack of support the front players are getting from the central midfield players. Forwards and strikers cost money, and unlike left back, the demands of the position at this top level is such that you can't simply "fill in" with someone not used to it or good enough. Really, I am surprised you are still harping on about this, especially after those 4 games I mentioned. Because our manager is shit and we play shit football under him.Simple as that And why we lost against Bolton home and away,Fulham home,Birmingam,Az? Why we conceded 5 goals against Championship side at home?Maybe because Martins is not good enough following your logic? Im not denying that we need someone who can replace the old man Sibierski who is slower then my grandfather btw but we have Owen and Martins.Ameobi is still a donkey but can be used as a 3th choice striker.Carroll is one for the future and we should give him a chance. We have various options upfront dont we? And please just dont tell me that apart from Martins and Owen the other strikers are not good enough.Yes they arent good enough. But what about Carr,Babayaro,Moore,Bramble,Ramage,Gooch??? Are they good enough for us?? The people who are saying that we need strikers ahead of defenders are just out of space. Yes we need to replace Sibierski with someone better and yes we need some creative midfielder but we need some quality signings in defence ASAP

Roeder should wait when Campbell is 34 and then sign him
-
I think those 2 lines highlights what is wrong with Newcastle's planning currently. Roeder has several targets and he's watching one game? It's too much of a job for just one man to line up prospective signings and prepare the first team squad for the upcoming matches, and Roeder doesn't have the staff who he can delegate the jobs to. In the last 16 days Comolli has been to 9 different countries, including Argentina, Brazil (twice), Spain, Portugal and Bulgaria as well as England and Scotland. Much is just checking on players first hand but there is a lot of optimism about signing a Brazilian and Levski Sofia's 18 year old striker Atanas Kurdov, who's scored over 30 goals this season, comes over in the next couple of weeks to look around and train with the first team squad for a week. Getting the setup right to recruit the right players in the window is more important than finding some players to sign without the right setup imo. You might sign a decent player but was there a better option out there for Newcastle? Without the right setup in place, Roeder will never know. I agree with you that you need DOF to handle this sort of tasks.I always though that Tottenham are going in the right direction when it comes to watching young talents, watching alot of promising players all over the world. So far Newcastle didnt do anything like this and i think its a big mistake because if we have someone famous as DOF who has alot of connections and knowldege about European football this will help enormously when it comes to signing young talents. I dont know about Comolli and i dont know what kind of job he is doing at Spurs?Maybe you will tell me.Did he sign anyone so far? About Atanas Kurdov im from Bulgaria and i know alot about our bulgarian talents and i must tell that i would be very surprised if you sign Kurdov. Why?Because i dont think he is anything special. He is pretty much overrated. He has enormous confidence and is pretty much because his father was famous football player and he things he is something special. When it comes to real talent i think Marian Ognyanov is one of the biggest talents in Bulgarian football. He is only18 years old and scored the only goal for Levski in the Champions league. Like i said i would be very surprised if you sign Kurdov Where did you hear that btw? Just to give an update, Kurdov has impressed in his trial and there is now more or less agreement for a deal to go through when the window opens. The 2nd Bulgarian kid never came over due to injury but I don't think it was Ognyanov as Comolli says he is aware of him, but didn't say he was the 2nd Bulgarian kid. Aye,i read about Kurdov too in todays papers. They said that Tottenham will decide whether to sign him in the next couple of days
-
To all the people who thinks we need strikers... I guess it was the strikers fault that we were eliminated by Az when we scored 4 goals in 37min in the 1st half of the 1st leg? Some good defending and this game should have finished 4:0
-
Comparing Mourihno with Roeder its like comparing Lamborghini with Trabant
-
I want Liverpool-Man Utd final
-
My 1st choice as DoF is SBR Houllier's main quality is that he is experienced, has alot of connections, especially in France and he can find the players which the club needs. You are right that he bought alot of floops at Liverpool. But some of them didnt perform too well under him but did good job with other managers(Diouf) His connections and experience can be useful. After all isnt it the last word to the manager who decides which player to buy after the DoF offered a certain player
