I think so. Because if we would have been able to agree a fee earlier then I doubt he’d turn us down and wait for Chelsea. Every penny counts in this PSR era unfortunately.
-
Don’t fucking christ me. Yes I do believe this. It’s as simple as if the PSR stuff wasn’t so tight and we’d be able to spend more freely then yes, we wouldn’t have to haggle as much and could have spent slightly more to get the deal done quicker.

Can’t really blame us but we’ve been too slow.

A reply to my post above? Even if not serious.

How much do you think Elanga is worth spending on?
-
Now this is a signing that I’m massively behind. Hope it gets done.
-
Bailey is as bad as Indikaila. We shouldn't post anything he says tbh.
-
Never seen him play but i wouldn’t mind us taking a punt on a very promising young CB with some sort of 1st team experience.

Just because i prefer a different type of player to Elanga, one that offers a bit more in general play and a bit of guile/higher technical ability. It doesn’t mean prime David Silva with Gordon’s pace. I’ve said it before, he’s not shite, and I think he’d do well here, but it doesn’t change the fact that I think I’d prefer something else that improves a lot of our other weaknesses. Howe will definitely improve him and so will better players around him. I think improving our control of games and ball retention would mean less chasing when defending at times, as well as conserving a lot of energy over a busy long season with tons of games. Yes there are other positions where we can improve this as well, I just think when you look at what we already have in our wide areas it wouldn’t hurt having something slightly different. I also don’t see too many other areas where we can improve technically without replacing one of our better players. Obviously GK and Botman coming back helps. Im also thinking that a player with a bit more in general play and guile could drag the opposition out of shape more (when not in transitions) which I think would help Tino to perform at his best as well as giving a bit more space centrally for Isak at times. Ive also said that IF we get someone like Pedro between Isak and say Tonali and Bruno then I’d be much more open to signing someone like Elanga who’s absolute strongest attribute is his pace and crossing to a degree. Because then we’d automatically get more space for our wide players to exploit as well as a bit more creativity and variety in our play by being more dangerous from central areas more often. That would make a massive difference to someone like Elanga I think, as well as Gordon. I’ve said all the above a few times over. Seems to be a lot of fuss from some people in here as soon as we prefer a different type of player that EH seemingly wants. Once again, I think he’d do well here, but I just don’t think he’s the player to throw 60m on. I will back him and I’m also sure that if he signs I will be getting tons of undeserved flak as soon as he does some things well Despite not thinking he’s shite or anything of the sort. Pedro in and I think he would be a good signing even if not my ideal choice. I’ve followed him since his youth and he definitely has his strengths but also quite big weaknesses. Yea like many other players. I just think that his weaknesses won’t improve our current ones which I think is the next step to evolve another level. Let’s just see if it happens to begin with 👍

Didn’t think it needed to be written, that we can’t buy Rodrygo.
-
I don’t think Elanga is bad, and I think he’d do well. But for the money I think he’s limited and I prefer a player that helps us improve in our weaker areas such as ball retention, creativity, controlling games better and so on. A player that offers us something slightly different than pace alone and crossing. (To some extent)
-
Funny. It doesn’t annoy me and it also won’t happen for crazy money.
-
Absolute bullshit. When Gordon is in form he’s easily the better player
-
There’s absolutely zero credible links. Also you have no clue how much or little I think he’s limited. For the money I think he’s too limited for the price it would cost. He’s not absolutely shite in general play, but not good enough imo.
-
Who else is after Elanga? Almost guaranteed no top clubs. Because he’s limited in general play.
-
I’m just saying that neither of them are worth 70m or near that. That’s Rodrygo kind of money if you convert to euros. Overpriced!
-
As if it makes sense to compare to him who is nowhere near worth the 70m they want (reason being they don’t want to sell him). Neither of the two are worth spending anywhere near that much on.
-
It's not about the worth now. It's about where it can be in the future potentially.. So we wouldn't sell for what the womens team is worth now.
-
Yep. Then there’s also the factor of much less pressure on him at Forest. Allowing him to develop in a more relaxed way with consistent game time.
-
I think he is extremely talented as well as dynamic. He offers a lot in general play and has really good technical ability. His ceiling is extra high imo. Last season he went a bit stale overall but still very very good in some games. One major factor might be that he changed positions every now and then, as well as West Ham not really evolving/functioning properly as a team with a lot of negativity surrounding the club. I think with a new challenge and under Howe, in a settled/consistent environment he would find his best form and start firing on all cylinders again.
-
I would much rather spend 60m on Kudus than 50m on Elanga. Every day of the week! (As an example). Much more talent. Think he offers a lot more as well as being the better option in front of Tino.
-
Can’t see this happening if it’s the likely 60m+ it would take (the addons included in that sum). Do people think he’s worth that? I’m sure they would want realistic add ons too. If they are willing to sell at all. For around 45m I’d be ok with it. IF we get someone like JP or similar.
-
It won’t be close to 45m.
-
He is perfect for them, no doubt. I think he’d do well here too, just not the type of player I think we need to improve a lot, especially in the areas we are relatively poor in at times. Especially for the price it would take.
-
He wasn’t my preferred type of player ideally. But still a lot better in general play than Elanga. Better technically too. Even now I think he lacks a bit in some areas. But his other strong attributes very much weigh this up when he’s on song. He’s one of the reasons that I want something more different to our right hand side so that we can get some more variety and other strong technical attributes to give us some balance. I was against signing him from the off but that was very much mainly because I disliked him from his Everton days, not much to do with pure football reasons. I’m sure I said stuff that I shouldn’t have. When it comes to Elanga, I like him, but not so much for footballing reasons. Especially for us and where we are aiming to go, and what what areas we need to improve in.
