Yeah, this is his stand-out quality for me. He reads the game so well, and when he gets closed down, it's like he tries to exploit the spaces that then open up. He reminds me of Dalglish with that way of turning situations to his advantage.
-
I thought he'd do well, and wouldn't be surprised if he made a successful comeback in time. He's not been lucky with injuries, and signing Coutinho looks like a costly mistake. He never looks like he fits in with that side. Perhaps a more experienced manager could have handled the Mings - McGinn captaincy situation better. One of Eddie's many achievements is how he has eased Lascelles out of the first team without damaging team unity or morale.
-
On paper at least, Everton look like a half-decent team. I see it as an over-achievers v under-achievers clash. Ultimately though, we got Eddie, they got Frank.

Not saying this is necessarily the right interpretation of the laws, but I think the Wilson pen wasn't given because he'd lost possession of the ball and didn't look like recovering it. Another defender had come across. I don't think the law is clear, but most refs don't give pens in that situation. Longstaff's wasn't given I think because he had started withdrawing his leg just before the contact. There wasn't enough force there to bring Sancho down or even stumble.

Assuming that we were in for him, I'm glad we missed out. There was a situation where Liverpool had 3 against 1, and Nunez had an easy and obvious opportunity to put Salah in. His decision to take it on himself was a piece of greed worthy of a park footballer.

Class behaviour from Pep.

I think it was City that I had most in mind, but my opinion hasn't been formed by just the one game. He was certainly an improvement on what we had before, but I can now see why Villa were prepared to let him go. For a full back, he's a bit slow on the turn and looks vulnerable when an opponent can stand him up. It's a moot point whether Burn or Targett offer the better package though. I just think Burn is a good organiser
-
Think it's an even call, really. Targett is okay, but struggles against a good opponent. Over the summer, LB seemed to be an area we were seeking to improve. Burn has his limitations but as a personality and leader his presence seems to add something to the side. His arrival marked a turning point.

Not looking great on paper, but games aren't won on paper. We have a habit of defying the odds, but this may be too much of a challenge.
-
Rumours from Football Insider that we're going to offer him an improved contract of £200K a week. I'm uneasy about this sort of thing. He's only just got here.

Yeah, the Moores family owned both Littlewoods Pools and LIverpool FC for several years. In those days, of course, after the abolition of the maximum wage in 1961, there was nothing to stop owners spending what they wanted.

The guy is under pressure and it shows. Their Premiership winning team has peaked and he needs to re-build. I like the quote - 'Past success is only briefly a glad memory, it quickly becomes an accusing finger'. That's what he's facing. Very unfair to lump us in with Man City and PSG. We have a different type of ownership structure and there's no sign that we're going to cheat our way through FFP. He's also twisted Ashworth's words. Still, it's nice that he sees us as a threat. I do think that the way that the top six are set up financially makes it dangerous for them to miss out on the CL for any significant time. Hence the headstrong march to the European Super League. We're a threat not because we're going to out-spend anybody, but because there's no room in their thinking for a 7th member.
-
I think we need 3 strikers, so I don't think he'll go without being replaced.
-
Yeah, his comments on the issue of mental illness were intelligent and insightful. He wasn't just spouting cliches, he really knew what he was talking about. Nothing phoney at all. As you say, one class guy. We're lucky to have him.
-
This subject always brings me back to the issue of why did we sign him. He made it very clear that he wanted to go to Liverpool and his career had already peaked. Injuries had already taken a toll on his pace. Shepherd did some dumb things when he was Chairman, but this one scoops the prize.
-
I think he'll keep his place. Eddie makes a point of rewarding good performances.
-
We played well for sure, but usually when a team loses a man, you expect them to put up a fight. Fulham seemed to lose heart completely, and it's no wonder their manager was so angry afterwards - I don't think it was just down to the ref. It's how a team reacts to a setback that counts.
-
Regardless of the red card, Fulham are destined for the drop if they continue to perform like that.
-
This lad continues to confound us. With each new threat to his position, he raises his game.
-
Eddie has restored this lad's confidence as I'd always hoped. He lacks pace, but as they get older, players learn from experience how to compensate for that. Let's hope he continues to grow with the club.
-
I know what you mean, but so many interviewers now ask that sort of question, and he isn't the worst culprit.
-
I think we might need him now.
