Looks seriously fast, and with a decent touch. Likely to be queue though.

He had that ability to pass the ball without breaking stride. Speed of delivery can be just as significant as accuracy. Really good player and a missed opportunity.

Well we had 72% possession, 7 shots on target, 8-1 on corners and we hit the post twice in the first half - if we'd scored that surely would have opened the game up. I've only seen the MOTD highlights, but we need to remind ourselves of how far we've come in less than a year. Breaking down packed defences is a new challenge, and at Premiership level it takes a really good side to do that on a consistent basis. We need some more quality going forward, but the will on the part of the owners seems to be there.

Tbh, I've been a bit disappointed with Botman so far. Early days, he's still adjusting to the pace and physicality of the Premiership, but he doesn't look as confident as I was hoping so far. But classy on the ball, yes, and is improving. I've always felt that Burn had a transformative effect on our defending. We looked far more solid for his vociferous presence. I'm not sure we'd have stayed up without him.

Naa, I disagree. Looking beneath the boyish presentation, he has some good and original points to make.

I hope Potter does well. I imagine much will depend on his ability to obtain the trust and regard of big name players, which will be a new challenge for him. Probably needs to get off to a good start. Chelsea are a bit of a crazy club at the moment.

Notts F are the 4th highest spenders this summer with £134m. How does a promoted club afford that? He's been investigated for all sorts of stuff, but that doesn't seem to get much attention.

There's been something wild, reactive and a bit amateurish about Chelsea's spending in particular. It's like they're in for any big name that's available. In the end, the disruption that it all causes is likely to cancel out any gains from the individual talents that they've brought in, and they'll be no further on. I often think back to the time when Fergie took over Man Utd - a huge club, with huge expectations but they hadn't won the league in about 25 years. In 1991-92, they came very close to winning it, but were just pipped by Leeds. Afterwards, who did Fergie buy in the summer? - No-one. He gave the message to the squad that they were good enough. A few months into the season, he bought Cantona, and they went on to be Champions, but sometimes not doing anything takes more courage than splashing out. Fergie had his eye on the bigger picture. So yes, I prefer our way of going about things. Eddie is building a good, solid, team spirit and identity and any signings have to fit in with that development. A fan in the boardroom, like Shepherd, can easily do more harm than good with misplaced enthusiasm.

Yeah, an interesting one. An 18 yo Brazilian for £30m. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11198211/Newcastle-strong-30m-rated-Brazilian-wonderkid-Andrey-Santos.html

Looks much better IMO.

Always felt that Rafa under-estimated him. We looked a different side when he was playing, even if he struggled defensively at that time.

I just wonder how much say Tuchel has had over all the wild spending that Chelsea have been doing. There have been so many changes in that club over the last few months, and the owners haven't given the team a long enough chance to settle.

I think they need to re-inforce the concept that VAR is only there to correct a 'clear and obvious' error on the part of the referee. Unless Lee Mason for some reason didn't see the push on Willock, then I can't see why he should say that it's a 'clear and obvious' error to award the goal. What's happening I suspect is there's so much pressure now, that the off the field adjudicator can take the easy way out and ask the ref to take another look. The ref is then under pressure to change his mind from the start because he thinks he must have missed something. Everyone plays safe and the original purpose of VAR gets lost.
-
I think he's right though. His era changed the entire thinking of the club to this day, but it's in the past and we're now in a new era. As a club, in its wider sense, we're a little prone to nostalgia, and that can be a burden sometimes.
-
Well, that's not how he rolls, and that won't and shouldn't change. He made his point very clearly and firmly without any shouting, and that's probably better than trying to put on an act. I was so proud on Wednesday, to have him as our manager. Watching Klopp ranting like an idiot all game, that can't be setting the right example for young people. There's so much hypocrisy in professional football, with managers and players shouting about injustices that they would quite happily accept as part of the game from their own side. I'm very happy with Eddie's more measured response, and who's to say it won't pay dividends in the end.
-
Let's cut him a bit of slack. Those one-on-ones with the keeper aren't as easy as they look. The alternatives to the dink are a blast, or taking it round the keeper, which aren't always successful either. If chipping it over the keeper is unwise, then Messi has been doing it wrong for all his career. If you have the skill to do it, then it's probably the best option of the three IMO.
-
He's very limited in his ability, but sometimes I also feel he doesn't really want the ball. His play looks half-hearted at times.
-
It's a convention among referees that they never blow for time if a team has just got a corner. They always let them take it and then blow up when the attack has concluded. I suspect that's what happened here. Disappointing to have lost at the end, but we did run out of steam. Klopp has gone down in my estimation, I must say. All that histrionic moaning. And I'd lay any odds that Harvey Elliott will be in the next England squad. He had a great game.
-
Harvey Elliott for England?
-
all of our goal threat has gone
-
Looking a bit tired.
-
And let's give our Sean some credit for that assist. An inch perfect pass.
-
Isak has had a cracking game. What a signing he is. People have been complaining about the CBs, but they've got on the end of every header in our box. And I don't think Klopp is helping his side at all by these histrionics. He just looks rattled.
