He's a very clever player. When he's under pressure with the ball, he almost seems to use the situation to his advantage. We don't have another midfielder who is so confident on the ball. I can't see much wrong with his pace and energy either. Last night, it really looked like he'd arrived at the Premiership. Being picky, he doesn't seem to have a left foot, and that can restrict his options, but he's very creative in the passes that he picks out. Overall, a great package.

Too often, it feels like he only passes the ball when there's no other option.

Very x 50 relieved. We're not safe yet, but that will ease the pressure hopefully.

Wolves look like a team with nothing left to play for. We're putting a lot of energy in to it, so I hope we get a goal before we tire.

I don't think it's just a matter of his defensive contribution. We're aiming to keep possession and work chances through good passing rather than rely on his ability to beat a player. He needs to release the ball with a bit more awareness of what's going on around him. If he really wants to move to the top level, whether it's with us or elsewhere, he has to adjust his game. The best teams rely on teamwork, not the individual maverick who does their own thing regardless of the situation. I was going to say unless you've got a Messi or a Maradona, but those players showed a greater team awareness than ASM does.

We're evolving into a more possession-based team rather than relying on hitting the front players directly, and I suspect that will suit Wilson more.

His performances for Juve and the French national team suggest to me that he's more effective in the continental style of football rather than the Premiership. I know the gap between the two has narrowed, but the extra physicality and pace of the Premiership just seems to make a crucial difference with him. In the Premiership, I think you'd have to give him a free role and build the team around him. For teams aiming for the very top, that wouldn't be the best way forward overall.

Being linked with Victor Osimhen in the Express. Looks brilliant.

I agree about the goal. That extra touch of class was the difference between the sides.

Okay, I'll pick my words carefully because I do seem to have a knack of upsetting people over this issue. Like other posters, I was a bit concerned about the recent injury and illness absences, and the trip to Monaco. There was a somewhat last minute air about them, and not much clear detail. I think Oregon Geordie had a good point about him wanting to be the star, whereas the whole direction since Howe has come in has been about teamwork. We're also moving towards a more passing style of game, rather than relying on his ability to beat opponents, and pressing high rather than deep defence. He needs to adjust, on a personal level as well as footballing, and I'm not sure he's doing it. Beforehand, it felt like, despite his individualistic style of play, we were better off with him than without him. Now it's not so clear. He was very disappointed, in a public manner, when Bruce went. A new man has come in and has largely taken over his status as hero. I wonder how well he's dealing with that. Of course this is speculation. I may be reading too much into things, or he may adjust to the new situation. If anyone looks at the same picture and says there isn't a problem, then that's fine, but that feels like speculation too.

My irrational loathing of him. According to some.

His commitment seems to be flagging and I suspect this is the underlying problem.

If VAR had asked the ref to take another look at that penalty, I'm sure he'd have changed his mind. The defender kicked him twice, had hold of his shirt, and didn't touch the ball. Let's see what they make of it on MOTD. Re Havertz - A lot of the elbowing that goes on with aerial challenges in the professional game is dodgy. It's all too easy to make a deliberate elbow look like you're using the arms to assist the leap. The benefit of the doubt nearly always goes to the offender, but I wonder if we should be a bit like rugby - make players a bit more responsible for their opponent's safety in that situation.
-
I'm a bit stumped too. But I just have a gut feeling that he can be the major beneficiary of the spirit of optimism that's going through the club at the moment. Ever since he broke into the team, things seems to have all gone off the rails for him - injury, a rumoured falling-out with Bruce which may have involved his Dad, a local lad having to deal with all the negativity around the club - who knows. But he can now put that behind him. Mind you, Chelsea's bench is frightening, let alone their starting XI.
-
It looks like a team set up to defend, and then hopefully get something from the bench. I'd like to see how Longstaff steps up to the challenge. His head doesn't seem to have been in the right place for a while, but there is a decent player in there and now's the time to show it.

This man has made me fall in love with football again.

The longer we can keep things level, the more they'll get frustrated and the more the off-field turmoil will take its toll. We've conceded only 4 goals in our last 7 games, so 2-1 to us and Rudiger to get a red card. He's about due one.
-
He's said to be ill now, not injured or being rested.
-
It just feels like it's the player that's deciding when he plays, rather than the manager. I'm not too bothered, because we've shown we can win without him, and the rest of the squad are completely behind the manager.
-
It started to get weird a few weeks back.
-
I don't think he's doing his own team any favours here. It's like getting your excuses in early.
-
I gave it 2. We should be okay now, but we have a difficult run-in, and if we're unlucky with injuries it could still happen.
-
Yeah, those were bad times. It ushered in those 6 seasons in Division 2, which were the poorest in my time of supporting the club. I've never read a clear, inside account about what happened with Dinnis. When Lee went, the players insisted that Dinnis should stay and went in open revolt against the Board. They won the battle, and Dinnis took us to 5th place. I think there was then further discontent in the ranks, we ended up in a relegation fight, Dinnis got sacked and we went down. It was a very costly period of turmoil.
-
I didn't think that Lampard was the best choice for a relegation scrap, where experience counts for a fair bit. He played an aggressive, high press last night, but Spurs had the technical ability to beat it and expose the back four. Full marks for positive thinking, but it didn't turn out to be the best strategy.

I've never been completely convinced about Rashford, either as a wide player or as an out and out striker. He's okay at both but doesn't excel at either. I also worry that all the attention has gone to his head a bit, but maybe that's unfair. If Eden Hazard is fit and the fee isn't extortionate, I'd definitely take him. He could be our Beardsley. A good player in that role can make a big difference.
