Feel for the fans, but all to happy to take their undeserved place in the premierleague. how is it undeserved ? Arguably it's undeserved because they've spent far beyond their means on the players that has kept them in the league. Not saying I agree with the sentiment mind. Isn't it a bit "glass houses" for a Newcastle fan - or, for that matter, a fan of about three quarters of the teams in the Premier League, including the one I support - to criticise Portsmouth for spending far beyond their means, though? This isn't just Portsmouth's problem, it is football's problem, and if something doesn't change soon, it will all go to tit. Fair point, but there's quite a difference when a club hasn't been able to pay their players for several months this year IMO. Not saying the overspending doesn't need to stop, but there's quite a difference between Pompeys overspending and anyone elses. No, there isn't that much of a difference. Spending 100 percent of your turnover on salaries is unsustainable. Spending 80 percent of your turnover on salaries is also unsustainable. One just becomes fatal quicker than the other. You really think it's not much of a difference? Of course there's a difference. If the 'extent' of behaviour in this case, the degree of risk in financial gamble made 'little difference' there'd be no such thing as the financial world. Our wage to turnover ratio was around 70-75% in the premierleague, since then we've reuduced that wagebill by a considerable amount so when we get promoted again we'll be in a much more sound position. Portsmouth's wage bill was not far off us but they had much less turnover. Our godsend in disguise is probably Ashley paying off our debt and us getting relegated so that our money grabbers who weren't achieving results left, otherwise yes we might have ended up somewhere similar to Portsmouth how so many years down the track. But to say that the difference between an 80% wage to turnover ratio has 'little difference' to a 100% wage to turnover ratio is simply absurd, just because both ours clubs have high wage to turnover ratios, a club that leaves 20% of its turnover for running costs, and a club that leaves 0% for running costs are pretty much the same thing? No way, that's ridiculous. That's like saying, a guy who's fit is in great shape, who enjoys MacDonalds or KFC once a week is 'little different' from an obese guy with heart problems who eats MacDonalds or KFC every second day, simply for the fact that they both eat MacDonalds or KFC too often. EDIT: Forgot to add this but yes i'll be happy when Newcastle takes Portsmouth's undeserved place in the premierleague, undeserved yes, not just for their finances, but conclusively the fact that even before their 9 point deduction they're on 19 points.

I'm sorry, but come on. This is Steven Taylor who spent 4 months licking Kinnear's arse in the local media then later went out of his way to make Shearer look like a godsend compared to old Joe. He's the biggest bullshiter to ever set foot in NE1. How about, Obafemi I will stay at this club so long as Sam Allardyce is in Charge, Sam Allardyce was hindering my game, I will stay with Newcastle until we win a premiership, Joe Kinnear has revived our team we are all behind him, then fucked off to Wolfsburg Martins?

I agree with you there, especially in regards to the senior players having a meeting without Hughton earlier in the season, there certainly have been signs of Hughton not having control of his senior players. But I don't think a couple of senior players can mount a promotion challenge like what we've done by themselves, I'm quite certain that the players are behind Hughton. As far as Nolan being hard to drop is concerned, I'm sure if Hughton had the money to replace him, he would have. I think if we had signed that Perch lad from Nottingham he would have been first used as cover in defence and then moved into central midfield once that hole had been filled with players coming back from injury. Parky, like Petelocky said, being manager and coach is different, Hughton was a player and then a coach and has had interraction with a proffessional manager for 40 years. However watching and doing is a completely different thing. You can watch porn for years but still be no good at shagging, in the same way, you can be a player and be a coach and be managed/watch a club be managed for 40 years, but still be no good at it until you refine your managering skills on the job.

The drugs have kicked in :bng: Care to explain? First of all you must be one of the very few too want Liverpool to finish in the top 4 your choice i guess but too say Aston Villa a shitty little club mmm lets compare domestic ASTON VILLA Domestic League titles * First Division Champions 7:[A] o 189394, 189596, 189697, 189899, 18991900, 190910, 198081 * Second Division Champions 2:[A] o 193738, 195960 * Third Division Champions 1:[A] o 197172 Cups * FA Cup Winners 7: o 1887, 1895, 1897, 1905, 1913, 1920, 1957 * League Cup Winners 5: o 1961, 1975, 1977, 1994, 1996 * Charity Shield Winners 1: o 1981 (shared) and now Newcastle Honour Number Years League Football League First Division Champions 4 190405, 190607, 190809, 192627 Premier League Runners-up 2 199596, 199697 Football League Second Division Champions 2 196465, 199293 Football League Second Division Runners-up 2 189798, 194748 Northern League Champions 3 190203, 190304, 190405 Domestic Cups FA Cup Winners 6 1910, 1924, 1932, 1951, 1952, 1955 FA Cup Runners-up 7 1905, 1906, 1908, 1911, 1974, 1998, 1999 Football League Cup Runners-up 1 1976 FA Community Shield Winners 1 1909 FA Community Shield Runners-up 5 1932, 1951, 1952, 1955, 1996 FA Youth Cup Winners 2 1962, 1985 So you say you want the top 4 too stay the same so does that mean Manure ,Chelski,Arsenal ,Liverpool like in previous years then obviously one from the other 3 who you put down but want to finish 4th and the Cithe logic baffles me tbh as its not a level playing field anymore but another club strangling the top of the table and making it difficult for the likes of Villa ,Everton etc to break in and us should we go up . To be honest how many trophies Villa has won in the last hundred years doesn't really matter to me, everyone knows of Villa's team of the 80's but that's 20-30 years ago now. What I'm trying to say is, had our team been managed better in the last decade, or even five years, we should be their rivals, or out of their reach, but they're out of our reach, that's why as a Newcastle fan it hurts to see them in the top 4. Where as Liverpool because, well they're Liverpool and City because of their bottomless pit of money might have been too much for us to challenge even if our club had been managed properly, that's why it doesn't hurt as much seeing them in the top 4, do you understand now? As for your comment about City solidifying itself as a top4 club and strangling the top of the table giving us no chance whatsoever say in 5-6 years time when we build a squad capable of challenging them, do you honestly think them finishing 4th this season will affect them for the next 5-6 years? They have so much money, practically a blank cheque to sign any player they want. Finishing 4th and getting CL money isn't going to affect them at all. Where as a team like Villa, if they finish 4th and start getting CL money, they can use that to solidify themselves as a top club, a club totally out of our reach.

That's the difference a few wins (and a goal) makes. We'll see a different set of opinions soon. I don't think anyone on here will be happy to see Smith and Nolan as our central midfield pairing at the start of the next season. Ideally we'd all like a creative central midfielder who can bring some mobility to our central midfield. Howver credit is due where credit is due, Nolan's goals DID get us a hell of a lot of points, and if it weren't for his goals we'd be much lower down the table. From what I've seen of Nolan, he doesn't get involved as much as he should beause his general lack of mobility however when he does get on the ball he's an intelligent player. So there Nolan's a shit premierleague player due to his lack of mobility, but down here in the championship I think he did a decent job despite looking like shit. Now I'm sure everyone on here, including Hughton would rather have Kaka in our central midfield than Nolan, but lets be honest, Chris Hughton has had to severely cut our wage bill whilst trying to build our paper-thin squad to last the season and mount a promotion challenge. I think he's done quite well. Yes Hughton hasn't dropped Nolan much this seaon, but let me ask you this, who would you have rather played? I mean Barton was injured, lets not even talk about Butt. That leaves us with, Guthrie, Smith and Nolan who we've seen a lot of this season. More often than not when Smith and Nolan was paired, it was when one of our wingers were injured and Guthrie had to be moved out to the wing. If we had a certain Kaka sitting on our bench, and yet Hughton was insisting on Nolan starting in central mid, I'd be calling for his head too. Yeah he's dogshit but he's the best we've got and he's done an alright job. I think Hughton has done well with the shit he has. Yes we'd like to have signed a central midfielder but, in the January transfer window Hughton signed a right winger, 2 back up centre halves, a left back on loan and a back up strike. I think that's good activity for one transfer window, and he did this while spending hardly any money at all. Priority was filling the gaping hole left by Taylor and Enrique getting injured, and he's done that well. My faith in Hughton signing a better cental midfielder before next season lies entirely in the Wayne Routledge transfer. Noone here expected Hughton to sign a player like Routledge, everyone could see that our team was unbalanced with all our attacks coming from our left, we all thought Hughton was a daft prick who couldn't see this and would settle with Pancrate, it was just one of those things which we fans could see but the manager just didn't seem able to. How often have you felt that way since Sir Bobby left? I've felt that way many times, where our problems were so blatant but the manager didn't address them or just didn't seem to know. Well Hughton did see it and he signed Routledged which has drastically improved our squad. Because of this transfer I believe he's not as stupid as many people think he is, and I believe he will sign a central midfielder. I also think Hughton is learning is trade and is improving, like our later games he's been fielding a slightly more offensive team, I think he's actually a better manager now than he was when he was our caretaker in the premierleague.

Why? They may play "pretty" football but we have been more effective, "pretty" football doesn't do much good in the premiership either unless you have the players and I can't see them spending £100m+ to do it. Where did I mention pretty football? I think Bob Matthews and Nigel Pearson (I'm convinved it's Leicester winning the playoffs) will go into next season fully aware that the weakest aspect of the team will need to be addressed. Wont happen with us, I just can't see it. We addressed some weak spots in this transfer window, we still didn't get the central midfielder we needed but we did pretty well. True, but who displaced within the existing squad? Kadar, Ryan Taylor perhaps, Pancrate and Ranger. I have zero faith that Hughton will go out there and try to bring a central midfielder to the club that will edge Nolan out of the team. You think we'll go down based on the assumption that we won't strengthen at CM during the transfer window, your justification for which being "you can't see it." ...Can't argue with that, I suppose. Just like how we didn't sign any players this season. Like how our team is seriously unbalanced because all our attacks ae coming from the left and Hughton is settling with Pancrate as right wing and not signing another winger, just like how we didn't sign any defenders and we got absolutely screwed when Taylor and Enrique got injured.

Sounds like a plan. That smilie man I nominate for thread of the year.

Not saying we will still up (in fact I have said all along we need a lot of changes) but the majority of the "better" players were shit last season and just couldn't be arsed. The only one I think we really miss is Bassong the problem was and still is the centre of midfield, I can't see us not signing any more players in the summer (I know that is a bold statement under Ashley) but if we sign a good, mobile centre mid and a decent striker I think we will be in a better position than we were when we went down. It's also much more than just simply a case of not being good enough on the pitch last season either. You only have to look how we started the season with what seemed like some stability to see that we'd have been worth more than 1 point had we not imploded. The same is pretty much happening with Portsmouth this year, they have some decent players and I wouldn't say they are the worst in the league, but there's a lot of other things contributing to their downfall. Unfortunately you can't just forget everything that's going on once you step onto the pitch. Right Johnny, team morale and team gel does nothing because... Christian Benitez 11 Lee Bowyer 4 Stephen Carr 2 Lee Carsley 26 Scott Dann 15 Colin Doyle 13 Keith Fahey 18 Barry Ferguson 12 Craig Gardner 33 Joe Hart 25 Cameron Jerome 10 Jake Jervis 32 Roger Johnson 14 Sebastian Larsson 7 James McFadden 16 Michel 17 David Murphy 3 Jordon Mutch 31 Garry O'Connor 8 Jay O'Shea 24 Stuart Parnaby 21 Kevin Phillips 9 Dan Preston 30 Franck Queudrue 20 Liam Ridgewell 6 Ashley Sammons 29 Teemu Tainio 4 Maik Taylor 1 Gregory Vignal 27 That squad which is 8th in the premier league has much better players on paper than what we had when we went down....right.

Liverpool for sure. I just want the top 4 to stay the way it is, I want it to be us to shake the top 4 apart in a couple of years, not these other cubs. Not Villa because I dislike how such a shitty little club is challenging for a top 4 spot while we're in the championship and I hate all this orgasm about how they're a 'proper' football club while we're a pile of horse dung. Don't like spurs because for a period of time they were considered our rivals, taking our ex players and taking all the exciting players that were linked with us. Wouldn't really mind City as much because the money they have puts them into a different realm from us so their success feels better in that they 'bought their success, don't deserve it' kinda way. So.... Liverpool City Villa Spurs In that orer.

I honestly tink that Houghton has done an excellent job, honestly how many of you were sure when we got relegated that in 10 months time we'd be in the position that we are now? He far exceeded our expectations and has built a side which gets results and is top of the championship. A side with a result-driven mentality. I think Houghton should stay as our manager for at least the first season back. Honestly, the difference between a mid-low table team and a relegation-zone team is not really down to an attractive footbaling system that plays exciting football. The difference is more often than not, a team with good morale, confidence and a ruthless attitude. Houghton has built a team that has built momentum throughout the season, and if we're to stay up next season, we need to carry this momentum into the premier league and get as many points in the bag early in the season when other teams aren't in full gear (once they reach full gear we'd probably find it hard to keep up). What we need to do to survive is not only strengthen our team, but to carry the momemtum we've built into the premier league, getting a new manager in with a new system which the players have to get used to will break the momentum we've built, albeit it may be a better system, it might not necessarily guarantee us staying up. We need to stay with Houghton to keep us up, and solidify our position as a mid-table-lower table premierleague side (not a yoyo side) before we change managers to move on and creep up the table.

im of the opinion he'll do I mean, he's a striker that'sscored more championship goals than all of our strikers combined. He's being unfairly treated due to the hope we had in moses, if there was no specuation on Moses we'd be happy and aplauding hughton about his sensible signings. Yeah so he's not as over-hyped as Moses is, doesn't mean this lad is bad.
-
I guess I'm the only one who's happy about this signing...
-
Raylor gives the ball away AGAIN! Get off the fucken field!
-
Rayor just let him fucken run past him! Good shot by Aanholt on the counter though.
-
Wellens off! Fucken taken advantage of by Routledge, class fall.
-
Our left-side is inexistant today, our team grinding down through the middle with an attritional mindset.
-
Williamson bloody strong like.
-
No use winning when he has no control where he places them. Which isnt true Heading the ball to Nolan quite well actually..
