No that is ridiculous. Yes we've had our fair load of bad managers after Souness, after he left we had Roeder, Allardyce, Keegan (did more harm to us than good eventually) and now the fat grumpy old bloke. BUT these managers, from Roeder to what we have now, are managers that failed to steady the sinking ship which was our club, a much harder job than Souness had. Souness started the rot, for metaphorical reasons of analogy, he got the ship sinking in the first place. The managers who followed simply failed to steady the ship which had its hull shot at with a canon by Souness.

I'd rather have Park here than any of our midfielders. If you only see Man Utd games once a season you probably wouldn't understand why Fergerson thinks of Park as a valuable part of his squad. But my brother in law being a Man Utd fan we always watch the Newcastle and Man Utd games together. You might think of him as a nothing player but this is ridiculously ignorant. Park's tenacity and relentlessness puts the opposing team under pressure and draws out defenders which create gaps in the defence for players like Ronaldo and Rooney to utilise. Sometimes you see this kind of thing from Obafemi Martins or Jonas Gutierrez from our team, where they dribble and hold the ball drawing 2-3 defenders onto them and then laying a pass off for a runner. The difference is, Park does this for 90 minutes of the match, it is relentless and gives a lot of stress to the defenders, wearing them down. It is largely because of this role, to draw defenders out and hold the ball that he doesn't get to attack much, but if you saw his performances at PSV and South Korea (which he now captains) he attacks without fear, scoring a fair few goals. It seems at Man Utd he lost his attacting instincts and for this I'm disappointed because I was a fan of him when he was at PSV. Also he's not the type of player like Ronaldo who always tries to beat his man and does step-overs whenever possible, but he does have some nifty footwork which come out of nowhere in crucial situations, often not directly assisting a goal, but he very often starts the play which ends up being a goal, by a pass, drawing defenders out, relentless running, closing the defenders down and winning the ball. Yes statistic wise he's not a great player because he doesn't score a lot and doesn't have a lot of assists, but without Park Man Utd would concede a lot more goals, and score a lot less. If you think any of our midfielders are anywhere near as good as Park, perhaps apart from Jonas you're ridiculously mistaken. In my opinion he is like Jonas but he has better off the ball contribution to the team, he closes down a lot more and runs back to defend. One of his greatest strengths is that, he is always everywhere, for example for the kind of play that almost leads to a goal there are so many times when we say, if only we had a player in the box at that time..Park will be at that spot because he never stops running.

If you're honest, he really wasn't, for the last few seasons at least. I would love to know how many assists and headers he won in the middle of the park for the last 3 or 4 years of his career, everything we did still went through Shearer, whether it be to hold up play for the team to progress or to use him as a goal scoring threat. Shearer was magnificent at what he did, he adapted his game perfectly - something 9/10 players will definately struggle to do. Also note that in the last few seasons of Shearer's career our whole team was playing shit under Souness. It pained me, killed me to see Shearer running back 40 yards to make last ditch clearances from inside our own box, and people blame him for not scoring, I wonder why. Honestly had Shearer in his last few years been in a team that played half decent attacking football he wouldve still got around 15 goals a season. Note that he finished his last season with 10 goals in 32 games, and was our top goal scorer that season, so many people absolutely butchered him on this message board in his last season, just because he couldn't challenge 2 defenders for an aerial ball, win a header, push 3 defenders over and score a 30 yard screamer anymore. He was our scapegoat in his last season, accused of delaying his retirement for Milburns record when he was just giving service to the club, and this negativity towards Shearer for God knows what reason, still exist and everytime we have a managerial vacancy people on this board yell "Oh no not Shearer!", this I still do not understand why.

Totally agree about Tomasson - went on to prove himself a good player(and KD right to buy him)at AC Milan. I reckon he would have been a success at SJP if Shearer had not been injured. I reckon Luque would've been a succes at SJP even after his injury if the club had better managed his recovery and actually gave him a couple of games over Chopra and Ameobi.
