A few months, come on, it was a year and a half wasn't it. He did very well as player-manager, manager, and youth development at both Millwall and Swindon as well as leeds iirc. How much are we actually paying Wise as a director of football, is it something daft like £2m per year? Thing i found most strange was Llambias description of what Dennis Wise does because what he described was basically a chief scout!!!!!! No club in the world pays anyone £2m per year for a chief scout. He wasn't with Kinnear, Ashley and Llambias last week at the training ground for the laughable attempt to make a breakthru in the transfer market so once he finds players he mustn't do the negoiating on the deals. Which again just points to him being a scout not a DOF. Why in his role of Director of Football as he not looked to replace our reserve team coach, Adam Sadler was given the boot along with KK and Terry Mac and the club have left Richard Money looking after both the reserve team and the academy. Just another sign of the mismanagement and poor running of this football club by the current regime. Llambias said specifically today that Wise (while having some role finding and recomending players) does indeed also do the negotiating, all Ashley and Llambias do at that stage is say yes or no when he pushes them for more money. As for the £2 million, I have no idea whether this is true (the only figure I have seen was 1.2 million or something but who the ferk knows) but I would doubt it. What amount of money would you be happy with? And Wise' role in appointing coaches, I dunno. Surely if anyone was to appoint coaches for the academy it would be Joe Joyce as academy director. Otherwise, while Money seems the main man, the youth and reserve personel seem pretty fluid. Calderwood took the reserve match this week to check out the seniors coming back probably, but what is Whartons role? Wharton is one of the Academy coaches, under 18's i think. , Money came in as the director of football, not even sure if Joyce is still at the club, he wasn't involved in the youth cup games, so if he's with the academy he's working with the younger kids, maybe under 16's or even younger but since Sadler went Money has been running the academy and taking the reserve games. Calderwood stepped in to take the reserve game but it was because Money was on a scouting trip not because they were checking the seniors coming back. JFK and Hughton watch every reserve home game anyway.

if the details of the contract that were in the Sunday Sun are true then i'm not suprised he isn't signing it. Agree with previous posts regarding the length of the deal, no way should we be handing him a 5 yr deal, a 2 yr extension on his current deal would be a better option. The one he's been offered would mean he'd be almost 25 and be on barely 10k per week, which when he looks and sees he's probably jumped ahead of the likes of SHola and Xisco and see's what there on you'd be a bit miffed!!

Been reading this thread over the last couple of days while at work and am just curious that all these people on here slating NUSC and voting for whether or not you support the current aims of NUSC. Before you voted did any of you actually have any idea what the AIM of NUSC is? Ashley Out? Keegan in? Wise strung up by his balls from the top of the Gallowgate? Well they may all come under the NUSC's banner of striving for positive change but the real answer, the main AIM the target when this group was formed at the end of September was for some kind of fan representation at boardroom level. Now whether thats a possibility or pie in the sky and it may well be the impossible dream but that is NUSC ultimate goal. There has only been one members meeting since the group was formed and that was on 29th October, that was when the AIMS of the group were decided by the members, the things that were voted on and passed at that meeting were 1. As i said number one goal is Board representation. 2. The continuation of boycotting merchandise and drink/food outlets on matchday 3. try to make contact with Ashley, open letter was sent, think numerous moves have been made 4. a call for the resignations of Wise and Llambias Other things raised was how to increase the membership and message of support to the team. Now thats it in the one meeting of NUSC members that was the plan of action. Now i'm not daft and i do know that the Ashley situation takes on alot more significance, i won't deny that the majority of people who have joined NUSC want Ashley Out. In saying that the critics on here are wrong to say that its only got that one agenda. I went to the original meeting and i joined, i went to the members meeting and i was at the last public meeting last week. I haven't joined the committee or anything, i haven't got the time to commit to that but fair play to the ones that have. I'll admit now that one of the things thats pissed me off is that on all 3 meetings is that they seem to fizzle out and you walk away thinking what was agreed there. Like i said i won't deny that people want Ashley out but then i know loads of supporters who have nothing to do with NUSC who say exactly the same thing. My personal opinion from being at the 3 meetings is that the overall feeling of the people at those meetings isn't as such the AShley out, but more the plea to heard and spoken to. Rather than banging down walls wanting Ashley Out NUSC have been crying out for what has happened this week and that the club speak and tell the fans what is going on. I think more people were wanting to see the back of Wise and Llambias than Ashley. That is where my cards would be placed, i've seen the state of the financial mess that the club is in, i'm grateful in some ways for MA buying it, just disgusted in the way he has tried to run it. I don't think the continental management structure works in this country, the proof is in the pudding really. I'm firmly in the Wise out group. While i'm ranting i may as well try and pick up some points that have been raised in this thread and try and correct them. The protests. NUSC have not arranged any protests at any matches this season, the big protest against Hull was before NUSC was formed, actually that and the bedsheet mongs making fools of themselves on a daily basis was what brought NUSC into existance. Yes there is a rally before the Everton game, to be honest i don't know what that will entail, i think there will be some speakers at the monument at 3pm. Looking back at George Caulkins report of the public meeting when he published the minutes of the meeting prior to the home game against Everton, there will be a rally (note the choice of word – rally) at the Monument in Newcastle’s city centre. A recommendation put forward at the meeting was that t-shirts promoting the NUSC could be distributed outside St James’ Park, issuing a statement to the Newcastle hierarchy. Look at us; you can’t ignore this. This at the time was raised as a RALLY not a protest, the Chronicle the next day ran the story saying fans would be protesting before the game and people have jumped on the word proteest. At the meeting and every meeting that there has been the only thing that EVERY SINGLE PERSON has agreed 100% is that the team on the pitch gets total backing and full support. It is ridiculous to suggest that a rally/protest call it what you want before the match will effect the team on the pitch, inside that ground the team will be backed to the hilt. Now i may be wrong but i think the idea of the rally was another step to try and get the club to acknowlege NUSC and speak out, again events this week with Llambias interview may well have thwarted that plan but until someone from NUSC's committee announces what is happening at the rally your guess would be as good as mine. COCKNEY MAFIA BANNER.....This has absolutely nothing to do with the NUSC. This is one mans flag(Keith Barratt) and Keith has already been on this forum to give his reasons for the flag. The last meeting of course was broadcast on the net so most people would've had the chance to hear it, i know a few have commented on the lack of pro Ashley comments or anything pro ashley getting drowned out. I haven't listened to the recording but from being there i didn't feel anyone got shouted down and everyone was heard, i will admit there were 2 pissed annoying blokes who were loud and definately anti ashley, anything slating Ashley got loud cheers from them. The 2 most vocal people there was the bloke at the beginning who was wanting people to cancel their direct debits and the woman who came up with the t shirt idea. Both of them had nothing to do with NUSC until after that night, they saw there was a public meeting and decided to go along and have there say and they ended up joining on the night. One of the main things i agreed with on the night was the lad that said he wouldn't cancel his season ticket or DD, i'm the same, i have been following NUFC since i was 9yr old and will be going next season whether we stay up or go down! Getting my season ticket will be the cheaper option than buying tickets on a match to match basis. Last point is the about the person complaining about the amount of coverage NUSC has received in around 5 months compared to a group like Toon Ultras. Thing to remember though is that when NUSC was formed following the fallout of KK sacking/quitting and the protests it was backed by nufc.com, true faith and the MAg. One thing about Newcastle United is that it has one of the best fanzine culture in the country and them 3 are massive and very influencial, the Mags been going for 20 years now and .com is massive. Whatever people may say about nufc.com most newcastle fans i know go there when they need to find something out. Now i've got nothing against the toon ultras and i applaud them in there efforts to improve the atmosphere at the ground but i get the impression that they're a bunch of teenagers/under 21's and not wanting to tar them with the same brush but the bedsheet mongs who were out in force waving there shoes around are the kind of fans that the toon ultras attract. Whatever people think of NUSC i would urge you to get yourself to an upcoming meeting or contact them and tell them where you think they're going wrong, if you think the committee are being idiots then join and you can vote them off when they get put up for re-election to the committee at the end of the season. Mistakes will be made, its a new group trying to move quickly, probably too quickly, as the old saying goes you can't run till you can walk. The guys who volunteered to put their spare time to use and take this group forward are doing it for one thing only, a love for NUFC. Its already in the process of changing to a supporter trust, enabling the group to get government funding and other benefits, all things that should help NUSC achieve its main goal, Boardroom representation. Hope i haven't bored everyone silly, its a HTT style post but thought some things needed saying.

Xisco joins Deportivo on loan until the end of the season
binnsy replied to LoveItIfWeBeatU's topic in Football
Think people are going slightly overboard here, were any you actually there watching him?? He was up against Wigans equivalent of Edgar & Tozer although they weren't as good as them 2, he took his 2 goals well and improved significantly as the game went on, in saying that he was dreadful in the first 20 mins!! Anyone who thinks we would be better off if he was to transfer his performance last night against a wigan reserve/youth team and be able to perform in the premiership is living in cloud cuckoo land. Yes he showed the odd flash and a bit of potential but if i was manager i would be throwing in Shola and Carrol before Xisco. Anyway according to the man himself he's broke his toe so he won't be featuring for a few weeks anyway!! -
i've already mentioned it in the Ranger thread but he was excellent tonight, especially in the 2nd half, smashed a great strike into the bottom corner with his left from 25 yards, only minutes earlier he'd almost scored NUFC's goal of the season with a brilliant run, 1-2 with Danquah, past a couple more and then round the keeper but then rolled his shot just past the post.
-
don't think its anything serious, took a heavy knock on his ankle, hobbled back on but went back off with a few mins left.

Xisco joins Deportivo on loan until the end of the season
binnsy replied to LoveItIfWeBeatU's topic in Football
he played ok tonight, started slowly but got better as the game went on, lovely cool finish under the keeper for his first, 2nd goal took a touch from Godsmarks cross and smashed it in from about 8 yards, could and should have got at least 2 more and went off injured near the end. Got a nasty tackle halfway thru the half, played on but went down again near the end after been tackled with another knock on his ankle, limped back on played for a few mins then went off and down the tunnel. Only aabout 5 mins left at that stage so probably a precaution. -
Just got back from the match, we played some great stuff, especially in the 2nd half, Ranger came on as a late sub, scored with his first and only touch of the game!!!!!! Lua Lua almost scored the goal of season , picked the ball in the middle of Wigan's half skipped past 3 players, played it into Danquah who played a 1-2 with a back heel flick back to Kaz on the edge of the box skipped around 2 more defenders, went round the keeper but went slightly wide and his shot back across the rolled just wide of the far post. 2 mins later he smashed a low 25 yarder in with his left foot!!
-
I was at the meeting last week and even i'm not 100% what the rally is about, i think from what was said its not an Anti Ashley protest march as such, more a plea to be heard and to be spoken too. That was the impression i got but may well be wrong.
-
Thats because he done well today, he put himself about and gave there 2 centre backs a battering all game. Set up the first goal and played part in the 2nd. Faded in the 2nd half but then we weren't attacking that much!! Thought his injury jinx was about to strike as well when he went over, it looked like his knee twisted when he tried to get on the end of lovenkrands cross. Some people on here are ridiculously critical of Shola, he gets slated off people not even watching the game!!

not sure if this has already been posted but George Caulkin from the Times follows up his brilliant article from Tuesday with a excellent summing up of what went on at the NUSC meeting on Wednesday night. Passion, fury and ideas: minutes from NUSC's latest meeting - George Caulkin, The Times They came in their droves and nobody came alone; each person who stepped through the doors of the Tyneside Irish Centre carried with them love and commitment and decency. Some brought fury, some brought optimism and others desperation, some were moved to tears by the raw emotion. But nobody came alone. This was Newcastle, united. How do you collate the views of supporters who can fill a 52,000-seat stadium? How do you represent the generation of fans who have been priced out of football, or the exiles spread around the world? How do you speak for them and decide what your aims should be? Can it even be done? Should a club which has consistently taken its core support for granted be confronted or engaged? These were, and are, some of the difficult (and almost irreconcilable) questions facing the Newcastle United Supporters Club (NUSC), a body established in the wake of Kevin Keegan’s departure as manager this season and still in its formative stages. They were debated at a well-populated, articulate and spirited open meeting on Wednesday night. Here are some random observations. 1. Your club needs you. Grave concern was an obvious, overwhelming theme of the evening; concern that relegation is a real possibility, concern that Newcastle’s ownership has been more interested in asset-stripping than squad-building, concern that after too much grim football and too many broken promises, fellow supporters are on the brink of giving up and walking away. 2. Should I stay or should I go? How to channel that concern is a thorny problem. Boycott home matches? A divisive proposition impossible for most to contemplate – you support the shirt. Cancel season-ticket direct debits? A tactic which would hit Mike Ashley in the pocket, but would also mean sacrifice given that buying individual match tickets is more expensive. 3. Anger is an energy. Should the NUSC stand under a simple banner – Ashley out? Again, this is not a straightforward issue; not for everybody, anyway. On one hand, the evidence of incompetence is everywhere, from the £8 million profit made in the last transfer window, the league position, the baffling lack of communication, the botched appointment of a recruitment department. For some, Ashley, Derek Llambias and Dennis Wise are symbols of a club which is self-destructing; reason enough to protest, demand their removal and call for change. And yet Ashley has already tried and failed to sell the club and that presents a dilemma. There are those who argue that attempting dialogue is the only sensible way forward. Finding consensus here is probably NUSC’s greatest challenge. 4. Where’s Waldo? Needless to say, Ashley did not buy a round of drinks at the Irish Centre; he seems to have stopped doing that. Wise wasn’t there. Neither was Llambias, although the hitherto invisible managing director will be answering questions from readers of two local newspapers on Friday. Some suggestions were made. Most of them were even printable. On a related subject, here’s Joe Kinnear on Thursday morning. “The guys at the top know they need to communicate better, which is why they are speaking to the two local papers. I think they will sit down with supporters’ groups and fans and the people of Newcastle at the end of the season – I know they want to do that.” So why not now, when the loyalty of their supporters is needed more than ever? 5. NUSC 4 NUFC. The people running the supporters club are smart and enthusiastic, motivated by passion not ego. They have a committee, a treasurer, an official website (www.newcastle-united-supporters-club.co.uk) and many have lost money for a cause they believe in. It has taken time. The contributions of influential, independent voices such as true faith, The Mag and nufc.com have been vital. 6. Lights, camera, action. So what happens next? For one thing, visibility is required. The NUSC intends to remind people that it exists, that they have a collective voice. They will step up their media campaign. If invited, they will take their message into local communities, dispatching representatives to pubs and clubs to canvas support, raise awareness and ask for guidance. On February 22, prior to the home game against Everton, there will be a rally (note the choice of word – rally) at the Monument in Newcastle’s city centre. A recommendation put forward at the meeting was that t-shirts promoting the NUSC could be distributed outside St James’ Park, issuing a statement to the Newcastle hierarchy. Look at us; you can’t ignore this. 7. There is power in a union. Why do we love football? Is it the escapism, the drama, the glitz and the talent? Or is it what Sir Bobby Robson has described as “the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city?” Perhaps some of those bonds are being stretched for Newcastle supporters, but there is an alternative to helplessness. It is fragile and these are early days, but it is there. As Neil Mitchell, one of NUSC’s committee members, put it, “We’re tired of the divisions within the fanbase. It feels like divide and rule and these divisions are easily exploited by the club. There’s only one way to bring everyone together and that’s through having a shared voice. We want to find common ground, and move forward. If the Supporters’ Club can achieve that, then brilliant.” There are common misconceptions about all supporters, but Newcastle’s have suffered from repeated, lazy stereotyping, particularly this season. In part, the club are to the blame for that – during Ashley’s tenure they have never attempted to promote a positive image of themselves, to fill the vacuum. But those stereotypes were never in evidence at the Irish Centre. Newcastle, united.

The Newcastle United Transfer Thread: D-Day [Spoiler: Not Much Happens]

So much crap coming out of NUFC, can just imagine that AShley, Llambias, Kinnear and Hughton have just been cooped up in the office, with a few beers, game of 3 card brag or poker, waiting for Charlie's deal to go thru in order to announce Taylor deal done. Every hour or so one of them gets up takes a cup of coffee or sarnie to David Craig, tell him how hard they are working. 30 mins before the end of the window they announce 2 £8m deals fall thru. Had all month to do a deal and nothing, Johnson should've been included in the Given deal. -

imagine any deals will need to be done by 5pm friday to enable them to play in the weekends games. -
The broken leg he suffered in the reserve game was horrendous, happened right in front of me and my dad, heard the bone snap, never heard anyone scream out in pain as much as he did.

Would rather buy Huddlestone for £3m than gamble on M'bia, we need players too come in and hit the ground running, we can't afford to gamble on M'bia taking 4,5 or 6 games to adapt to English football, by the time he's got used to PL it could be too late. -
Not a world beater but the type of player we need here in a relegation scrap!! Got a text about an hour ago to also say we are buying Ryan Taylor, would be excellent, can play full back and midfield. Also saw somewhere that Fulham were lining up a £3m bid for huddlestone, i would jump in and take him for £3m as well.
-
we've got Kaka on the bench
-
From what i've seen of him he wouldn't be a great loss to us, has not looked too impressive in the reserve games i've watched tbh.
-
Duff would be sold, he's a player that we would get some money for and we couldn't take a play on his wages down into the Championship. Taylor would also probably be away as well as like you say teams rate him and the club would cash in on him. Especially when the likes of Owen, Viduka, Butt, Harper, Cacapa would walk out the door in the summer for free, that only leaves Colo,Taylor, Enrique, Charlie, Oba, Jonas, Barton and Duff to cash in on and could only see us getting big money for Oba and Jonas, doubt we'd get our money back on Colocini. who in the premiership would take duff though?? especially with the wages he'd demand. i just reckon we'll end up being stuck with a couple that we cant gid rid off. I think there'd be a few clubs in for Duff if he was available for around say £3m just on repuatation alone, obviously he would be getting a wage cut but he'd drop his wages and sign for a team like Wigan, Fulham than play in the championship, chance Celtic would even come in for him and offer him the chance of Champions league football.

I would dearly like to read his book(s) but I can't find a copy anywhere. I've got them both and there really good, i would definately recommend them.

No guarantee Edgar would stay, his contract is also up and no sign yet of getting a new one, he may well have already been approached by another club and agreed a move. Other young reserve players such as Donninger, Donaldson, Danquah, Morris, Marwood, marwood and Godsmark are also out of contract. We actually had this conversation yesterday at work and we had the likes of Given, Enrique, Colo, Cacapa, Geremi, Jonas, Charlie, Duff, Owen, Viduka, Oba, Barton, Taylor all been sold or moved on. Harper, Butt and Beye were question marks, thought harper would also be moved off the wage bill but we thought Butt and Beye would be kept, both in their 30's, Beye loves it up here and bought into the Geordie way of life and would hopefully enjoy the challenge of captaining a young side trying to bounce back! We would keep Bassong, Edgar, Guthrie, Lualua, Carroll, Tozer, Kadar, Krul, Forster and Shola. The likes of Ranger, Inman, Tavernier who have starred in this years youth team would be into the first team squad quicker than expected as well That list shows though how screwed this football club is, everyone has seen the finanial situation is dire, the clubs income would plummet, ok we get a parachute payment but with the parachute payment and between approx £35m-£40m (amount we thought we would get from sales we have to bring in about 15-16 players!!
