How is gettin beaten and outplayed by one of the best sides in europe needing a wake up call? If this was happening against a team like Blackburn or Man City then i'd be concerned.

i'd love Barton to come off the bench 2moro and score the winner, love it. Hopefully with a 30 yard screamer...... I'm slightly confused about the wanting a new contract story, thought that both milner and charlie got new deals this time last year, thats what Taylor was moaning about cos he was apparently arguing that he should be getting parity with them. Has Taylor ended up getting a better deal and milner has now spat his dummy out??

i'm slightly puzzled where the new milner contract talk has come from, the lad only just signed a new and improved deal this time last year. Surely he can't be expecting a new deal just cos Villa are showing an interest. We've said he's not for sale and he's under a long contract.

Benfica are really arrogant they see themselves as gods gift and constantly over value their own players. whereas we seem to pay over the odds and sell cheap!!!

charlie was a bit hitty missy but he sent in a peach of a cross in the first half that Martins somehow failed to get on the end of. Apart from late on when he picked out Geremi when we seemed to have made about 20 passes and eventually played charlie in and he got to the bye line, his final ball was poor, as was milners.

Be very suprised if the Malouda story is true, he's not as good as Spiderman and we already have Duff and Charlie, there's 9 positions need strengthened before left wing/midfield!

Nothing like an over reaction, we all know we need a left back and while Charlie could've played better he didn't play as bad as some are making out. There was nothing wrong with his attitude or work rate, Charlie didn't have to break his neck to get back cos he knew when he did go forward Jonas dropped back to cover for him.

i went to the match but the conditions were terrible game was abandonded with about 15 mins left. Neither player was bad but they didn't stand out either, if they joined the club it would be to play at youth/reserve level as they didn't look like players who would be in the premier league. Can't realy judge them on 3/4's of a game but from what i did see i they wouldn't get in the reserve team when everyone is fit, the left back was nowhere near as good as Kadar and Solli, who looked the better of the 2 wouldn't play in front of Tozer and Edgar.

bizzarly barton will probably get more cheers than boos. Eeriely true, he came out tongiht as Valencia lads were leaving got really good reaction. I'd prefer cheers as it means the media won't then spin it and have a go at KK and the club for not sacking him. If the fans boo him the press will have a field day. If there are fans who feel strongly and can't bring themselves to cheer/applaud him, which i can understand then i'd prefer them to just remain silent. From my point of view i think i focused Joey Barton with his head screwed on properly is a top footballer and if Keegan get get into his head and get him playing the football that he did when they were both at Man City then he will be an asset to the football club, whatever happens this is probably the lads most important season of his career so lets hope he rises to the occassion. Scoring the winner with a man of the match performance would be redemption and a good way to repay KK's faith!!

Really enjoyed the match today, excellent for a pre season game as you never know what your going to get and plenty of positives to take into the season, must say i was very impressed with Valencia, at times we were chasing shadows and couldn't get near them, never mind get the ball, some real class in that side with the likes of Silva, Villa, Vicente, Baraja, Joaquin etc, there won't be many teams better than them come to SJP this season. Only Bad point was the ridiculous booing of Alan Smith, some "fans" leave me speachless some times, yes Smith may not be the best player in the world and there is no denying he is struggling at the moment with both form and confidence but he is still going out, not hiding and trying his best and giving it a 100% effort. Bottom line is we are supporters of NEWCASTLE UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB, we go to SJP to SUPPORT the team, Smith is part of the team so he gets supported, simple really, you may not like him, you may think he's a waste of space(i do) but while i may slate him in the pub or on here while he's on the pitch i'm with him 100%. I'm dreading the return of Barton cos i'm dreading the reaction, the media will already be sharpening their knives in anticipation of Joey getting some abuse when he makes his return, they will love it if he returns to booing and will go to town on it and give them another excuse to rip into the club and try and cause a split in the camp.

They're a local band called The Longsands from Cramlington, there was talk of the club releasing the song at the end of last season, if you check out the bands website www.thelongsands.co.uk there maybe some news on the release, think it is in the pipeline.

The NUISA if i'm not mistaken was originally set up during the Save our seats campaign, don't think it lasted more than 18 months and definately not in operation now, well apart from Frank, its a one man band supporter group.

yes i agree, the 2 up coming home games see us move up another level in terms of opposition in PSV and Valencia but our team should feature Given, Beye, Faye, Collocini(fingers crossed), Butt, Jonas, Owen and Martins. They're a decent 8 players to build a team around. This time next week we'll hopefully have a better idea how things may go once the season starts.

we need full back cover, an attacking/creative midfield player and a mobile quick forward. We've 6 strikers, but they're 4 big lads and 2 little ones, if Owen & Oba are out we are screwed with none of the big lads able to play together, no movement and no one in midfield to break past the forward, Charlie would do it but don't think KK will play him central.

poor 1st half although the team got slightly better as the half went on, couldn't get any worse as for the first 15 mins it looked like we'd just pulled 11 blokes off the street to play as no one had a clue what they were doing. We have no threat, Smith, crap or not plays with his back to goal and no one from midfield is running beyond him so even on the few occassions that he does manage to get the ball under control he's no options. For all we are missing a virtual whole team we should still be doing better than we are.

so we now need 6 goals to win the tournament! i doubt Smith will get 6 shots before xmas never mind score!

one of the worst nufc teams i've ever seen put out, where's the forwards or attacking threat?? oh 1-0 down already!! We should've give Godsmark and Donaldson a run out.
