i'm not too disappointed that we've missed out on him, he's not the biggest of players and have my doubts he'll suited to the pace and toughness of the premier league and its a big gamble with such a big transfer fee, if he'd come here he'd be another Viana or that other croatian superstar Silvio Maric!!! of course now i've said that he'll end up being brilliant for spurs!! Given the choice i think i'd prefer Ashavin.

QPR about 86-87, it was my best mates birthday, we would've been about 13 and i went with his dad and cousin. Sure it finished 1-1 but Gazza got sent off, also remember sme toon fans threw a firework on the pitch which burnt a hole in their crappy plastic pitch!! We went by car and as we were getting the ground ended up behind the escort for the coaches, we parked up behind the buses but quite a way from the ground. After the game the coaches had been brought right outside the away end, we didn't have a clue where we'd left the and it took ages to find the car!! At least the traffic had gone by the time we left!!

glad to see Souness running away with this, the bloke is a joke.....Ruined Liverpool and then us. It takes a "proper" manager to take a squad of players that had finished the previous 3 seasons 4th,3rd and 5th and take them into the bottom half!!! After spending £50m, you'd think it would be impossible! Also oversaw 2 of his players fight on the pitch and the less said about transfers like boumsong, babayaro luque etc the better!! Can also see why Dalglish would feature, while Souness undone all SBR's hard work, Kenny dismantled KK's entertainers!! Only thing that saves Dalglish is he left us Given, Nobby and Speed, 3 players that would probably be in most people's team of the last 15 yrs!!

highlights are about to be on SSN. decent game, they scored after 55 seconds, Emre was wiped out with a shocking tackle after 2 mins, helped off the pitch, didn't think he'd comeback on but did and scored a good goal. Lualua then chopped down when clean thru, man U player sent off, another manu player went and had a go at lua who was lying flat out in the box, BAheng steemed over and shoved the player away, kicked off handbags with virtualy 20 players. When it all calmed down ref gave him a 2nd yellow and he was off. His first yellow was a really bad decision as well. decent game although not as good as the last few.

Rob Lee has got to be the best signing only cost £700k, an absolute bargain!! Probably get shot down in flames but can't agreed Shearer as best signing, don't get me wrong i love the bloke and he's up there as one of my all time favourite players but if Keegan had spent the £15m on say Southgate and another decent defender then we'd probably have won the league. Shearer is a legend but at the time we bought him he wasn't what we needed.

Van gaal is the perfect man for NUFC. Even more so when you look at the so called criteria laid out by Mort. Van gaal ticks every box. His teams play brilliant football, normally in the typical dutch total football style. I gave up long ago ever thinking i'd see NUFC win something in my lifetime and i'm only 34 but would have no problem handing over my £500 every year to watch that kind of football. Look at his record with youth players, has managed Ajax and Barca, 2 clubs with probably the best 2 academies in World football. I was talking to a dutch lad from my work and his success with Alkmaar in the last few seasons as been built on bringing through young players. He can handle the pressure, you've just got to see where he's been before to see that. I know he can be a bit of a idiot and can be abrasive ect but the fact that he will make Alan Oliver's life more difficult by ignoring him and having a weekly argument with him should be viewed as a bonus!!
-
Don't want Shearer either, but feel that if another manager gets it they'll always have Big Al's shadow casting over them. My choice would be Louis van Gaal, at least we'd see some decent football on the pitch.

When teams don't have midweek matches, Newcastle definately do and i think most teams as well give players the day off. To be honest this Owen witch hunt is getting stupid, the lad can't do anything and whatever he does gets criticised. Other players were probably out golfing or something but owen loves horse racing so he went there, probably to watch one of his own horses race!
-
prices were always £5, its a Blue Star home game, they've set the prices and obviously weren't expecting NUFC to field such a strong team. They need to have cash turnstiles available as its going to be a nightmare queueing for tickets at the ticket office and then queueing to get in, loads of people who weren't interested will fancy going now.
-
i was told on Saturday before the match that we had signed Sidwell on a pre-contract and he'll be joining on a bosman at the end of the season to replace Emre, who is off to Germany.
-
Add Nicky Butt to that and I agree. Yes i'd clear out everyone apart from them as well although i'd be prepared to cash in on Martins if it meant bringing in Bent or Ashton.

Cracking result last night and the lads are into the semi's for the 2nd season running, hopefully we'll go one better this time. Lets just hope a few more people can get off theie arses and get along to SJP and support the lads. If a "small club" like Swindon can get over 2000 watching their youth team surely NUFC fans can get out in force. The previous 2 home games have barely had 1000 people there and it wasn't much better last season. These lads have been doing really well for the past couple of seasons, always up at the top of their league, back to back semi's now and a couple of trophies won on European tours. Not sure when the semi is but it'll only cost £3 so will hardly break the bank!!

Edgar isn't as good as Taylor but this season he has been alot better than Huntington in the reserve games they've played in. Last season i would've said Hunty was the better player but this season Edgar has came on and improved while Hunty hasn't reached the heights of last season. From what i can see Roeder seems to have decided that he rates Hunty as a better prospect and is playing him first despite Edgar on current form performing better. It won't be the first time though that NUFC fail to see the potential in a player, after all Malaga saw something in the lad almost 3 seasons ago after seeing him for 90 mins during a friendly!!
-
Much prefer Gabriel Heinze, top top player and can do a job at left back or centre half, rumoured to be available, Spurs are apparently sniffing in case Man U get Bale. If i was roeder i'd be moving heaven and earth to get him, especially if the fee is around the £5m mark.
-
You could chop off Krul's arms and he'd be a better keeper than Turnbull!! of the others Andrew Taylor is a top player but from what i've seen of Bates and Wheater when we've played Boro's reserves i would take Hunty and Edgar over bates and Wheater but Davies is probably better than Ramage. Steven Taylor would just edge out his namesake from Boro as the best of the lot though.
-
Would make a move for Wes Brown, doubt Man U would sell though or if he'd want to leave at the moment. We could pick up Halford the young right back from colchester fpr £2-3m, England u21 international and the best full back in the championship. Also would be tempted to resign Aaron Hughes, reckon we could get him back for £1m and while he may not be a world beater, he would jump at the chance to come back and is a better RB than Carr, a better LB than babayaro and a better CD than ramage so would improve the squad, with our squad so stretched his versatility could be useful. The rest of the money would go on a striker but to be honest i'm struggling to come up with anyone. Also rate Giles Barnes, the lad is quality but a midfielder isn't high on our list of priorities at the minute, maybe do a deal with Derby that we tie him down but loan him back for the rest of the season, better than losing out on him to someone like Spurs.
-
I've only seen Frank Wiafe Danquah once and he was shockingly bad, got his chance when the club permantly promoted Carroll out of the Academy side into the reserve/first team squad. We have plenty of other good prospects at the club, as people have already said the likes of kazenga(only 15) looks an excellent prospect and we have the likes of Pattison, AOB, Carroll, troisi already in and around the first team. Their's a young lad called Bertram who only looks about 12 playing right back for the reserves and he has played well this season and although another centre half i was very impressed when i saw callum morris play for the reserves a few weeks back when either Hunty or edgar were injured. The youth cup tie against Norwich is at SJP next week, get yourselves along and see for yourself who we have got coming through, one thing you will notice is that we seem to specialise in small players!! The likes of Donninger, Cavener, Godsmark, Bertram, marwood may all need to have to have a growth spurt if they want to fulfill there potential and make it at the top level.
-
The lad has been injured virtually all season, he's only played once for the reserves and that was against Benfield Saints in a friendly!! got injured early in the season, recovered to make his international debut and was injured again playing for Ireland. Hope the lad is now over his injuries as we may need him now Charlie is crocked.
-
Phil Cave is the reserve team left back, steady enough player but he's on the small side. He came through with Taylor but will probably end up at somewhere like hartlepool rather than the first team. The left back for the youth team is a lad called Darren Lough, only seen him play once so couldn't really rate him, the game i saw the team got thumped 4-1 off Derby!! He wasn't bad but he didn't stand out either though.

when i was young i had no sense i bought a flute for 50 pence the only tune that i could play was fuck the mackems and the IRA.. is that the one???

So is there gonna be a protest this Saturday then or not?
binnsy replied to Leazes1986's topic in Football
Stuff the idea of a protest, Saturdays game is massive, we need everyone behind the team and have the ground rocking, with a atmosphere like we were playing the mackems or Man U. Sheff Utd would collapse like a pack of cards in the face of such an atmosphere and the must needed 3 points would be there for the taking! instead we'll get the usual silence and the fans will jump down every mis-placed pass, poor tackle etc and let Sheff U grow into the game. Best protest is not turning up, another poor crowd against Vigo will get Shepherds attention more than a few banners! -
i don't think young Troisi is ready yet, the kid is still raw and naive but wouldn't be that worried about carroll getting chucked on, he's a big lad and has a decent touch and can finish. Probably the one player coming through at a fast pace, improving all the time and already taken out of the academy side to be a "reserve regular", will only now play in the youth cup. i made a prediction to a few lads on Saturday that he'd make his 1st team debut by xmas but it may turn out to be alot sooner!! Personally i'd have taken Edgar instead of Huntington, hunty hasn't been playing as well as last season and on current form Edgar is playing better. i'd also save Emre for the weekend, play Charlie in the middle and give O'Brien a run out on the left wing, the pace of him and Charlie could be our best chance on the counter attack.
-
he could certainly come in and do a job for the first team, improving all the time and is as fast as any player i've ever seen and can't do any worse than Duff. unfortunately he's injured at the minute so couldnt play anyway!
