I've just been listening to Graeme Souness talk about Steven Gerrard and he not only stated that he'd still play Lampard & Gerrard together for England, but also that he 'hasn't been convinced' by Javier Masherano with him at Liverpool.
-
I can't see the attraction of a relegation battle, albeit in the Premier League, when you have a realistic chance of leading your country into the World Cup finals. Souness is amongst the favourites to replace him.

Given Taylor Beye Faye Enrique Rozehnal Geremi Emre Martins N'Zogbia Smith Sam will certainly have to rethink his tactics but i can't see him switching to 4-4-2 in what will be one of our toughest away fixtures. As Beye was our only defender to perform yesterday i wouldn't be inclined to move him, and so Taylor becomes the best option at right-back. Rozehnal, Geremi and Emre can all retain possession which we're desperately going to need them to do, whilst all being reasonably defensively-minded to deal with a combative Blackburn midfield. Martins and N'Zogbia's pace will be a threat on the counter-attack and should cause Warnock and Ooijer/Emerton problems throughout. I'd also go for Smith above Viduka as the formation requires a mobile forward, who will chase everything down and is also capable of bringing others into play. That simply isn't the Australian.

And then end up sacking another manager in September, the worst possible time of the year. I say that because if we do finish in the bottom half this season i don't believe he should be sacked. If, however, after three transfer windows he still can't produce a coherent team capable of playing effective football, I wouldn't be inclined to give him another entire season.

Barring a serious threat of relegation, he must at least be given the rest of this season and the beginning of next. When Allardyce arrived, the club possessed deep-rooted problems from previous regimes which simply weren't going to be fixed overnight. However disillusioning recent performances have been, i still have faith he will have learnt something from each, and is ultimately the man to turn the club around.

I like the look of that formation. Smith, Butt & Emre really should be dominating Sissoko & Lucas.

I blame Keefaz.

N'Zogbia caught out again. Why is Sam persisting with him there when we have a perfectly good left-back on the bench?
-
Sublime movement, first touch and finish. Excellent goal.

Seems painfully obvious, doesn't it? And if Enrique isn't fit, use Faye.

Struggling to see to the positives in this one. I suppose with Smith and Barton in the team we'll have some real grit away from home, if nothing else. Spending £6m on an attacking player we're not really desperate for also suggests substantial funds have already been put aside to strengthen defence, although i think i said similar when we signed Duff...
