  1. Luuk de Jong or Papiss Cisse would both be very good signings. Haven't they both recently signed new contracts though or am I just imagining that? The less said about the Rhys Williams suggestion, the better.

Cisse extended his contract to the end of the season then he'll definitely be sold apparently.

I thought something like that was the case. I'm not sure if we'd sign a striker in January and then another in next summers window though.

Aye he's probably out of our price range anyway.

To correct myself, before somebody else does, he didn't actually extend his contract but agreed a wage increase on the understanding he could leave at the end of the season.

  3. Love to see us get Papiss Cisse, and that's all we should care about. If Maiga can keep on contributing then we go after him or Papiss. They're realistic and would improve us.

Cisse has signed a new contract with Freiburg but is allowed to leave next summer:

Watched him play against Stuttgart on ESPN last night. Looked real quality in a shite Freiburg side.

Would have suited us down to the ground.

  4. And what's the excuse for the previous 100 days?

Well the lesson isn't specific to the last day of the transfer window.

My point was that the example of Carroll wouldn't encourage Ashley or anyone else to pay over the odds or pay what is now being called 'a premium', for a player you've targeted.

Unfortunately the valuation of players we set in almost every case is stubbornly/optimistically low in the first place. So it's not the case of paying a premium.

The reason Carroll was eventually overvalued at £35 mill was because we the selling club supposedly didn't want to sell and Liverpool kept coming back. In all the deals we were interested in the clubs were willing to sell and had set a price but we wouldn't meet their comparatively fair valuation.

Not 100% correct. In two of the cases (Erdnic and Gameiro) and we did meet their evaluation. But the players didn't want to leave France, or preferred Spain.

Aye we find absolutely no problems matching valuations nice and promptly for players who say they don't want to come here.

    Funny that.

  5. The Carroll-sale was possibly the worst sort of deal for everyone on here, only Ashleys pocket benefitted. The money was good but we are never gonna see them. Hence its pointless using the amount of quid as an arguement. We lost our best striker and brought no replacement in, not now - not ever.

Horrible deal, horrible for fans, horrible for NUFC. Good deal for FMA.

That depends on how you calculate the expenses. If we include agent fees, salaries during the contract period and sign on fees, we've used all the money. And a very, very important factor is that we used some of those money to tie down Tiote for 6,5 years.

You're not under any illusions why that was done, surely?

Only so we can extract the maximum fee when we sell him in 6 months.

  7.

Our failure to acquire a striker having had ample funds and from January to find one is quite frankly amateur and shambolic and WILL cost the football club points.[/u]

Is that a fact? We could have brought in Maiga or Cisse and found out they're shite.

I don't understand the attitude of spending lots of money = better. It was tried under Shepherd and the club was in bits by the end. Look at Leeds too.

No of course it's not a fact but it makes it a hell of a lot more likely.

That's what good scouting and backing the manager's judgement is all about.

Using your logic we'd never buy a player ever again.

  8. Nothing they could say in the statement that would please people tbh.

I'm taking full responsibility for our failings in the transfer market and have tendered my resignation.

    That might.

  9. A statement from Newcastle United Managing Director Derek Llambias

Now that the transfer window has closed, we have had some time to reflect on the business we have conducted over the summer.

Our aim was to secure young players who represented value for money and could add real strength to the squad. The majority of our transfer dealings were completed in the early part of the window and we feel we have signed some players of exceptional quality. Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux, Mehdi Abeid, Demba Ba and Gabriel Obertan were all brought in early and we have seen these players settle quickly into the squad and perform well on the pitch.

Earlier this week we were delighted to sign Davide Santon from Inter Milan to fill our left-back position after the departure of Jose Enrique. Davide is an excellent young prospect and we're sure he'll be another superb addition to the squad. We also welcomed young goalkeeper Rob Elliot from Charlton Athletic who will help us retain healthy competition for that position after loaning out Fraser Forster to Celtic.

Of course we had also hoped to secure a further striker in the window, in addition to Demba Ba. Work to bring a striker into the club began early in the summer. Negotiations were complex and protracted and unfortunately it was disappointing that ultimately we could not secure our priority target.

Whilst we did turn our attention to alternative prospects in the latter stages of the window, we have a very clear transfer policy and will not make knee-jerk decisions at the last-minute which are not in the best interests of the club. We understand that supporters will feel frustrated that we did not sign another striker during the window, but it was not for lack of trying that we did not bring our final target in.

Ruiz in a nutshell - fucking dick.

At least stick to your own bullshit.

  10. What a fucking pointless argument and fatuous point. Encouraging journalists to make our manager look a dick in public is the stupidest thing I've heard for ages.

Wish people could stop their crusade and just support the club for a while.

Football management is full of bullshit, spin and half-truths, nobody tells the public what we seem to think Pardew has a duty to tell us. This whole argument really annoys me, it's based on a premise of truthfulness that nobody in football lives upto.

Where have they had a go at Pardew.

If anything they're sympathising with him.

  11. Results and performances on the pitch don't matter then? I was under the impression that was quite a large part of a managers job

By the looks of the responses of some people in here, I guess I'm wrong.

Results have been despite the performances this season so far though.  We've seen nothing of the alleged new system that was going to give us greater posession, but have managed to ride our luck and grind out results against the run of play.  Allardyce had a fantastic start to the season statistically, but we all remember the shite that was served up in those early matches and how it turned to shit after one negative result.

So we're just judging him on three games, last season never happened.

That's despite having lost the backbone of the team, having to bed in new players and a nightmare of a pre-season for various reasons.

Not saying he's Guardiola like. But he deserves a chance.

  12. The 100% stuff was probably to put extra pressure on MA an DL to try and make sure they get the deals done.

Blaming him for anything other than results and performances (and he's doing ok) is bullshit.
