He played a good amount on Simpsons side in the 2nd half, and other than the one time he got in behind him to get a shot on goal I can´t remember him having the better of Simpson. The one time he was played through, it was Saylor who played him onside.

I think one of the reasons people are going OTT is that the changes that needed to be made were so blatantly obvious for everyone to see. If Pardew had put Santon on for Raylor after half-time, and got Ba/Sameobi on for Shola at least before the 60 minute mark, trying to play a bit more positive, I think most people would have been quite satisfied with the result today knowing that we at least tried. Given Raylors importance since the start of the season, I think it´s fair game that he got to start, but he should have been off at half-time given how the game went. Maybe Pardew struck a deal with Warnock? If he kept Raylor on, Warnock would swap SWP over to the left? I think Warnock saved us a point today by doing that.

No chance. Shearer 94/97 was the perfect centre forward. He had absolutey everything in his locker. Other than what I´ve already listed, please inform me what Shearer at his peak is better at than todays Rooney. I´d also like to throw in the arugement that Rooney doesn´t have the same tactical assignments as Shearer had. I think Rooney would score more goals if Ferguson allowed him to have the same role in Man Utd as Shearer had in Blackburn and here.

Personally I think Shearer is obviously a tad overrated on here, which is not surprising at all really. Yes, at his peak Shearer was better than Rooney has ever been as a pure striker, but Rooney still has many years left, and I don´t think we´ve even seen him peak yet. If I was asked to pick either Shearer in his peak, or Rooney at his best form we´ve seen so far, I´d take Shearer. However I´d gamble on Rooney if I´d have to pick either Shearer at his peak or Rooney today as he has the potential to be better than Shearer ever was. Other than scoring goals and heading the ball, Rooney is better than Shearer ever was at everything else, and he still has time to improve.

I would say both tecnically and physically, Martin much more looks like to Xavi. Martin can both defend and have some tecnical skills, which isn't the case of Cabaye... Come on, man. That's just wrong. Have you just ever seen Cabaye dribbling someone ? Just answer please... Technical skills isn´t just dribbling though. Cabaye is a very technical player. I don´t know how much you have seen of him for us, but he has shown that he has a good first touch, controls the ball well, great technique when striking the ball and delivering corners. I agree with you that the Xavi comparison is greatly exaggerated though.

They were also arguably better players who aimed to join/stay at a club playing in european competition.
