Defence is poorly drilled right now and confidence is that shattered that individual defenders are less likely to know how to handle any given situation. And thus will make stupid mistakes, esp. if trying to impress, ironically enough.
Don't think Taylor's going backwards, he's just going through the ups and downs that many younger players go through. Terry had world class players around him when he hit similar veins of form; Taylor doesn't have that. I'd give the lad a break for this season unless you'd prefer he sodded off to Spurs or the like, and then moan about him strangely improving.
If you think Spurs or the like are going to headhunt Taylor you must be off your rocker. Ramos bought Woodgate to mark players not run to the goal line to make last-ditch clearances, or clutch his gut to to try and con the ref he didn't handle on the line.

NUFC have hampered his career. Sure they gave him his break, but after that they've stopped his development with poor coaching, no role models for him, poor on pitch performances and a host of managerial changes.

Life isn't perfect! He should have raised his game or worked harder to make the most of an opportunity where he was forced into the first team. If he did work his hardest and this is the result then he isn't good enough.
Yes you can say the club let him down and that is fair enough. If this is indeed the case and it has resulted in him being the player he is now then I apologize to you on behalf of the club. Just get him the hell out of the first team, as he's not helping our cause one bit and others will do better.

This team/squad and club is rotten to the core, yet the stand out target is a lad who loves the club more than any other players currently in a B&W shirt, i love it i really do.
He's not performing in a mess of a 1st team and because of that he's now not going to make it, doomed to fail.
Possibly correct if he hangs around this shithole, its dragging him down, if i were him i'd hand in my transfer request and get as far away from this shambles as i possibly could.
The club is letting him down more than he's letting the club down.
I don't care if he loves the club. He isn't good enough to be playing in the team right now.
Yet he is, due to this idea he is a young prospect and a local lad who loves the club and is committed to it nonsense.
The guy isn't good enough, and the more he plays and the more it costs us, the angrier I get. Nothing personal, but the simple fact is that I know we can put out a better defensive unit that doesn't include him.

Sell him in the summer and get a real young prospect like Onuoha in, who Keegan is familiar with.
I thought it was disgusting how Taylor got all the plaudits at the under 21 tournament due to his I took a penalty with one foot action hero act. Onuoha was a beast and did all the work, while Taylor stuck out his chest and put on his I'm so committed face, largely doing nought.

Definitely a possibility. Considering that the only reason he left Man U was because he felt he wasn't playing enough. He would have certainly made a big deal about playing as much as possible at his new club. It would certainly make a lot of sense. Why leave Man U's bench to sit on Newcastle's right?

If Smith plays in midfield he's in a more influential position where he offers even less.
How can he offer less than nothing?
He definitely can offer less than nothing!
In midfield he will give away free kicks on the edge of our box all game, which means opportunities to score and therefore most likely goals for the other team!
No coincidence that we are going to be facing Arteta and Gerrard in those games. They will probably score from 10 Alan Smith Free-kicks between them.
Keep him upfront where he can't make things even worse for us please!

I think a lot of people have now come to realise that although he is not the perfect player or finisher he is still a huge asset.
As good as Owen's movement and finishing in the box can be, he is still not as valuable on the pitch as Martins would be for this current team.
Can't wait to see him back out there for us. I'm sure the fans will be a lot more forgiving of his occasional bad touch having seen how poor our other options have looked while he has been at the ACN.
I think they'll be less forgiving of his extremely persistent bad touch having seen how close to the bottom of the table we are.
His goals will make up for it that's for sure.
Owen on the other hand can continuously displays his tidy first touch, on the odd occassions he is actually involved in the game, without scoring goals for the team. That would be just brilliant right?
I wonder if people would still rather have Owen out there instead of Martins if it came down to picking one or the other. Hoping and praying that a perfect ball is provided for Owen all game from our incompetent midfield, while Owen drifts around hoping for the same while contributing absolutely nothing else.

He's got a great attitude and that is the outlook he will need to recover from the injury. I wish him all the best.
In a situation like this the least Taylor could have done was at least contact him to wish him the best. Piss poor effort from Taylor really.

Skysports.com understands Birmingham defender Martin Taylor has visited and spoken to injured Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva.
Taylor made the personal visit to Birmingham's Selly Oak Hospital to see Eduardo after being left distraught by the serious leg injury suffered by player.
Eduardo suffered a horrific broken leg just two minutes into Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Birmingham at St Andrews on Saturday.
The injury occurred after the Croatian was caught on the leg by a mistimed tackle by Taylor with the defender seeing red for the incident.
The injury left Taylor visibly shaken as he left the pitch with Eduardo being stretchered off after receiving lengthy treatment on the pitch.
Comments
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger launched a stinging attack on Taylor at his post-match press conference before later retracting his comments.
It is understood Taylor sought out Wenger in the tunnel after the match to speak to the Frenchman and to find out about Eduardo's well-being.
The former Blackburn defender tried to visit Eduardo at hospital on Saturday evening, but was unable to see the player as he was undergoing surgery.
Taylor returned to the hospital on Sunday morning to see the player and is thought to have spoken to Eduardo to find out the full extent of his injury and pass on his best wishes for his recovery.
Good for him. The absolute least he should do.

I think Faye and Beye could potentially be the best partnership in the middle. Trouble is, Beye's the best RB at the club. Similar problem if you play Faye in midfield (i.e. he's needed at CB too).
I think it could work. Geremi at RB would give us plenty going forward. Solano did it well last season.
Now that would be very interesting indeed. Enrique, Faye, Beye and Germi. I seriously doubt we would look so bad at the back with those four lined up in our defence.
Not too confident it will be given a chance though. Chances are nigh impossible.

If there's one manager I have faith in, who won't pick players on reputation and will not let players live on past glories it is Keegan. This man quietly moved on players like David Kelly, Gavin Peacock, Micky Quinn and replaced them with better. You can't live on the past, he has consistently proved to be an excellent football manager and will come good for us again.
There seems to be a large group of people who post on here who seem to have subscribed to the s*** in the popular press which states that Keegan is a nice bloke who likes everyone to attack, does not understand tactics and thinks training revolves around playing cards. This is not the Kevin Keegan who dragged us, Fulham and Man City out of the s*** and established us in the top tier. He isn't off to a great start, granted. However he will turn us round, get everyone pulling in the right direction and he will get rid of anyone who isn't good enough or commited enough to help him do that. As far as I'm concerned this is guaranteed based on what he has done before and the character of the man which we already know.
I know a lot of it is wind-ups, but some of the s*** posted on here beggars belief.
Well I certainly don't have a problem with Keegan at all, and I understand he has had a difficult run of games to start with. As long as we stay up, I know next season will never be this bad and could be brilliant in fact.
I just wish I didn't have to sit and watch Butt and Duff the rest of the season. It breaks my spirit. They cannot justify their places with the performances they have put in this whole season. However, I just think Kev will keep them in the team because of their 'experience' and 'leadership', characteristics they certainly haven't shown at this club, and that dissapoints me. Somewhat understandable but very dissapointing nevertheless.

I've just read a quote from Keegan saying that we will only need two or three players this summer!
I honestly think that he believes this current team is actually decent and just needs confidence.
If he only brings two or three in this summer people would go bonkers!

At the very least we need two central midfielders, a left back, a top centre half and a legit target man striker. That's already five players. We could also do with a right winger and a younger right back to back up Beye.
I hope Keegan knows what he's doing.

This isn't a Keegan out thread or even an anti Keegan thread per se.
However, I think what everyone has to accept, unfortunately, is that Keegan will never, ever, ever, ever drop Butt or Duff.
A lot of people keep suggesting/hoping Faye/Geremi play in midfield ahead of Butt, and Duff is moved aside so Zoggy can occupy the left wing spot, however my impression is that Keegan isn't even close to considering this.
Keegan, unfortunately still sees the names Nicky Butt and Damien Duff and probably remembers what they were like when he was last managing in the league. I'm not sure he is able to look past their names and their history.
Keegan is convinced that all they need is their confidence back and this is very worrying. Remember how Keegan went on about the quality that existed in the squad when he was first brought in? The need for experienced leaders? That worried me at the time, and I hoped it was just talk, but it appears not to have been.
If everyone is fit, Butt, Duff, Smith and even Owen should be struggling to be in our team right now, based on their recent performances, but in Keegans mind I think he believes this is the foundation of the current team.

How do you spend £16 million on someone who isn't guaranteed to be in your first team?
Absolutely crazy.
Bent was seen as the best available striker available to replace Berbatov as at that time there was the expectation that Berbatov would go. Had that scenario actually occurred, Bent would have been starting practically every match. £16m for the league's top English goalscorer for the previous 2 seasons wouldn't have been too surprising. It's the subsequent events with Berbatov staying that makes the transfer look a wierd one.
Interesting. Well that was one hell of a risky move. So is all the talk of Bent being moved on true then? Or do the club still see Berbatov moving on, in which case they intend to hold on to Bent?

As far as I'm concerned, if Enrique isn't going to be played, then it has to be Geremi at right-back and Beye at left-back or vice versa.
We need N'Zogbia further up the pitch because he has defensive lapses and we need his attacking instincts.

Duff + Carr + Given for McGeady and I would be a very happy man quite frankly.

Duff is currently shite, but even worse is the fact he thinks he is a class player or something.
You would think he would have caught on to the fact that he can't go by people like he used to, and therefore look to cross the ball as early as possible ... of course not, he instead dribbles down blind alleys and inevitably falls over and loses the ball.
The dilly dally man makes me sick to the stomach. He really sucks.

I think Keegan will come good, but Didier Deschamps was available and interested and he is very highly rated.

Doing all the work???
Father, Lord in Heaven give me strength I plead of thee!
Everytime Taylor and cacapa have played alongside each other I only see Cacapa "doing all the work". Cacapa is making interceptions, tackling and actually marking people as opposed to space, before becoming overwhelmed due to the lack of support from Taylor.
Put Cacapa alongside Faye and I have no doubt we will be much better defensively. Faye will make up for Cacapa's lack of strength, and although we will be a bit slow in centreal defence, I honestly don't think Taylor adds any more pace anyway.
How many times have Cacapa and Faye lined up together? How did we do in those games? Can someone please investigate this. A bit difficult for me to do right now.
