  1. Loved it. Echo all the comments about him being a good storyteller. Just wish that this fella was around the club in some capacity. Sadly looks and sounds like it's highly unlikely in the short to medium term

  2. Today's extract is up on the times website.

Deplorable. And somehow the likes of Dennis Wise are still allowed on TV and are given a free reign to criticise football managers who have more integrity in their little finger than he will ever have.

The whole thing just stinks top to bottom. I doubt anyone is naive enough to not think there's corruption at all levels but the fact that this fucker is allowed to use us a plaything for his drinking pals is shocking. Panto villain my arse he's just an out and out cunt

  3. I wish super kev would say what he really thinks

Part of me is a bit put out at why he hasn’t. It’s intetedting to hear in memoirs and all but he could really galvanise a movement given chance and his input.

Now the book is out and he's making money from it he might.

  4. If you look at the way Ashley and his cronies operate they're basically cowards. They'll do what they want but when it goes tits up you hit a wall of silence. Hopefully this book will add further fuel to the flames and accelerate his eventual demise here

  5. LeeCooper jeans as far as the eye can see

who the fuck wears lee cooper jeans?

People who can't afford more expensive jeans?  As much as Ashley sells absolute shite, many 10's millions in the UK can't afford to shop for decent clothes.

Tkmaxxx sell better brands at similar prices. Decent clothes are relatively inexpensive these days.

Best get the TK Maxx links added to sports reditect

  6. Pragmatically even under new ownership Rafa is probably as good as we could hope for in our current guise  We're on our knees and need rebuilding from top to bottom. My best footballing memories are of The Entertainers in the nineties, and who knows how we could evolve in the future. But short to medium term there's no one I'd rather have in charge

  7. Just had to review my trust pilot comments on Kbr as apparently they lack provenance and substance.

I've reworded it in such a way that it still says the same but is more articulate :)

  8. Been going since 1985 and only missed two seasons since. FWIW I thought Rafa did what he had to do on Sunday and my decision to cancel isn't based on that. There's just no point anymore. I just about wrapped when Pardew was there, but then Rafa gave some hope. It's actually quite bad to see how 3 people regarded highly in the game have been treated by a man who clearly isn't a fit and proper person to own a football club. I firmly believe his modus operandi since Keegan left has been to suck every last bit of enjoyment out of the club. It's baffling that the likes of Pardew and MacLaren have been backed with the kind of money that would see Rafa have us there or there abouts, yet he has chosen to starve him of the funds and then set about using his media chums to discredit the bloke.

I'll be back when Ashley's gone, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for this being any time soon

  9. I've sacked my ticket off.

Was going to see it out for Rafa, but I just have absolutely no wish to go to SJP at the moment.  Sat halfway through the game on Saturday looking at the sky thinking wtf is the point.  I've become more and more disillusioned with football in general, and truthfully only watched around 8 world cup matches.

£89pm (£20ish hike) for something that despite best efforts from Rafa, is only going to end in tears.

I'll leave it on a semi high of last season and sack it off.  13 years down the pan. I'll be back when we have an owner who gives a fuck.

I've done the same. I'm getting annoyed at something I can't control. Direct Debit cancelled and a cancellation request by email as well, citing the current regime as the reason, for what good it will do

There comes a point when an argument reaches a deadlock, when neither side is willing to back down and there is no hope of changing anyone’s mind. Victory is impossible, winning the debate is infuriatingly elusive.

That is where we are when it comes to Mike Ashley’s time as Newcastle United owner. An 11-year reign that has left supporters embittered, those of us who have covered every day of his reign infuriated, yet Ashley and his allies remain steadfastly bemused by the vehement opposition to him.

While much has been written here and elsewhere about why Ashley remains a hopeless football club owner, there has been a lot said since by others trying to defend the retail billionaire, most recently by Dennis Wise, a former Newcastle employee, appointed by Ashley for a brief and unsuccessful stint as Executive Director (Football) in 2008.

According to Wise, during an appearance on Bein Sports– and his argument has been mimicked elsewhere by various pundits and commentators on a variety of platforms over the last few weeks – Newcastle are in a far better position now, both as a business and a football team, than they were when Ashley took over in 2007.

The argument goes like this. Ashley is a businessman who inherited a debt-ridden operation and turned it into a stable, self-sufficient business, who has backed all his managers in the transfer market with as much money as he is able, while simultaneously making the club as competitive as it can possibly be. It is a well-versed narrative and it can be persuasive.

Newcastle are financially stable, even though the debt has actually risen, in the form of interest free loans from Ashley. This cannot be dismissed as an irrelevance.

But there is more to football than a balance sheet; far more. To argue Newcastle are in a better position now than they were in 2007 is misleading at best.

So, where this is so often an emotive debate, let me bring some cold hard statistics. Forget about the aborted renaming of the stadium, the shoddy treatment of hugely popular figures like Kevin Keegan, Alan Shearer, Jonas Gutierrez and Chris Hughton, as well several false promises made by Ashley in rare television interviews and official club statements, this is about the numbers.

Where feelings can cloud judgement, let me offer some facts and figures. I may not change your mind, I may well be preaching to the converted, but if the debate is not over, it should be.
