Absolutely. For much of my school years, we were both rotting in the second division with crumbling stadia. Still, both sides could go stand on the Gallowgate or the Fulwell end for £3, cash on the turnstile, then chat shit about it the next day at break.

The vast majority of the people who go to games live locally. We are friends with and work with lots of people from Sunderland. There's constant football banter, sometimes friendly, sometimes less so. We barely encounter Man U or Liverpool fans at work, and when we do, unless they're from Liverpool or Manchester I frankly couldn't give a toss about their opinions and won't take any 'banter' from anyone who's just picked a winning team to support with no connection to the region or town in question, if such banter was attempted I'd just laugh at them and tell them to jog on because I have no respect for them or their opinions because they've got no skin in the game. So that's why we sing about Sunderland and not Arsenal etc. Their fans are people we care about and encounter regularly in our day to day lives. (Though I'd far rather direct my energy to Newcastle)

Honestly some people in here are just hilarious, and not in a good way. A mackem posts in the sunderland thread and is just met by a barrage of "fuck off"s - I mean, really? He's every right to be happy at the moment. They've started really well. They look like they'll probably do better than many thought (Relegated with single-figure points) and at the moment they look at least competitive. Obviously things change and they may struggle in future games, but they've done what they needed to do in the early fixtures. Their fans are understandably pleased, football is about the moment not the future, we can't expect all mackems to spend the whole season moping just because they might ultimately go down, let them enjoy their good start. Many people's reactions to that just seem to mirror exactly what we mock RTG for. Can't we be better than that?

I think the shots are mostly fine? There's a couple of fluffed / skied efforts, but every player has those. I'm sure 15 Shearer shots would include some shit ones. And Isak was never great at headers. Mostly though the shots were hard and heading goalbound. If he'd rolled them tamely wide, fair enough, but they were mostly hit with power and hit well. The problem for me isn't his shooting, but how he carried himself around the pitch adn how he created (or didn't create) space to receive the ball or make shots. Or close people down. I'd love to see metrics like %time sprinting, number of tackles etc that indicate effort, and those stats do exist, for when he had his purple patch vs the last couple of months of the season. That would be far more telling to me and would (possibly) show a drop off in effort if he'd mentally thrown the towel in by then.

I doubt he's moved out, the agent will just have re-used the photos from when it was last listed. He has to live somewhere and I doubt he's sat in the Premier Inn with all his stuff in storage.
