This is the biggest problem we have TBH. Financially we need to operate smartly but quality wise we need the top level. Long term I’m hoping for a system which identifies and makes profit on young signings but we will always need ready-made players to come in as well. If we want to compete for the top 4 rather than the top 10.

Remember that a lot of the poor clubs vote for it too. I’d say it’s more accurate to say it’s allowing the top few to compete, the middle bunch to survive more cheaply while really only punishing the handful of ambitious and rich clubs like us. It’s truly weird that a sports league would do this.

Palace’s approach didn’t even make sense last time around, they should’ve cashed in. So I don’t really know what they would do now. IMO they should be looking to get some money in ASAP. They did win a trophy I guess, so you could argue it worked out for them.

I don’t believe that’s the case. Khusanov was on our list too, to name one. We just thought we could get Guehi and ended up getting strung along by Palace and failing. A mistake but it doesn’t mean we ‘only wanted’ one target. Think the timing was bad as well, Mitchell didn’t have time to really shape that window.
