  1. cause they have tried their best to get him to sign a contract and he wouldnt as he wants to move on. Simple really if he was being let go for no reason, or being sold off then i would join you
  2. owen -shola shola-owen. Id guess both those partnerships would be pritty much the same nope one is playing on the left and the other on the right and vice versa .... ok its the best i have sinse ive made myself look stupid
  3. Taking Owen into consideration we've bought the wrong striker. I'm assuming that means you think them as a pair would not work? Even though we have not seen them play together? Just like an owen anelka partnership may not have worked, while i feel martins link up play is bad he is still young and to be on his own or with the very slow sibbers I don't feel it is right to be making these big leaps in judgement till we see them both play together till say xmas (that's if we hang on to both of them) I'm guessing Shola and Owen will be a better partnership. parky what i mean is that none of these partnerships that your talking about have been tried and tested. owen -shola owen- martins owen- carroll martins-shola shola-owen. I just dont see why we need look at anelka as a missed signing as he has as many bad things going for him as good. I see the perferred strike partnership again guessing everyone stays and no big trophy striker comes in then it will be owen - martins will it be the next sir les and shearer partnership only time will tell.
  4. That is beacause he was substitute in half the games. Due to the emergance of Emile Heskey and Robbie Fowler. That is beacause he was substitute in half the games. Due to the emergance of Emile Heskey and Robbie Fowler. we are still talking about a very young injury free on fire owen and then none drame queen hungry anelka, both players have changed and even if it did on some level work "back in the day" they are like different players now and I still think a partnership may or may not work.
  5. season over or not if owen is fit i think FS will want to keep him away from any mins on the pitch as we all know what will happen 20 mins for us = another cap for england, and although you cant keep him in cotton wool i would hope if he was to get injured it would be playing for us than for england

  7. martins is younger new to the league (anelka has had 3 stints in the prem now) and I can only see Anelka's valuation going down where as martins i can see at going up seen as he has not reached his peak. I feel that although martins needs to improve i would rather have him then the stroppy frenchman anyday
  8. Martins being the type of player that will score us goals when owen is injured so even if we sign no strikers (god please say we will), were not a one striker team. Also Given making noises to say he is staying at the toon, top keeper has his weaknesses but has kept us in so many matches. Also agreeing with the Janitor here, I'm so glad this season is comming to an end, although it hasn't been a nothing season in the sense that we have had cup runs, it still has for a few different reasons a season to brush under the carpet.

    Wages crisis?

I know this may seem very random but I knew Liam Atkin a regular from the reserves who never managed to break into the first team, I remember him telling me he was on something like 2,000 a week (again he could of been boasting as he is that sort of lad) but he said that the goal for every lad was to get into the first team not for pride, personal glory or achievement but cause it was the pay day of a lifetime. It just seems to make me worry how we are bringing up the fringe/reserve and acadamy players to be like. They see the luque's of this world going the training sessions drive off in the bentleys and jags to there multi million pound pad, why do these lads wanna then play for the club. The glory or the money?

    Duff's Dive

in an ideal world any sort of cheating would be punished but the sad fact is there is an element of it in everyside i feel be it a certain player or a particular tactic. I for one would rather fight fire with fire until the day comes of a system to stop it. If we got into the uefa cup final and were drawing then with 10 mins to go the other side buy a penalty, an then we go and get one ourselves does that make us just as bad as the other side or smart no one would remember us as the poor souls who missed out on the cup just the loosing side.

    Duff's Dive

very true i think there is a fine line between any descision thats why it needs someone to descide rather than it being black and white. Teams are dirty, teams cheat, teams create chances with obvious dives, and making mountains out of mole hills. BUT and here is the key, they may get a bad rap but they get the glory and after a few seasons no one remembers how it was won just that it was.
  12. dont want to start the whole is kuyt similar to anyone else or better than anyone else but I see Kuyt much like the bellamy we had when we were in champs league etc. He is a play maker and was never going to set the league alight. When i saw the world cup and him consistantly being played on the wing in the midfield i knew he was a play maker. Not that i want to make a giant leap here but if martins stays fit this lad will out score kuyt and yea i agree with you menace if i can think of where to put my 10 millon now the younger, keener, quicker martins does it for me everytime.
  13. smart money would be on emre due to the whole racist thing, butt isnt safe either as he is 31 now? 32/33 next season so we need to think about replacements. As for parker I agree he hasn't been the player we had last season but he is only 27 so would be a better one for the future than butt plus roeder made him the captain so unless parker wanted to leave nothing is going to change.
  14. more likely if liverpool were wanting to show off their new found wealth then it would be david villa they will go for seen as they were linked to heavily in the summer. Also rememebering back to the whole thing surrounding the transfer rafa let him go on to pastures new owen always said that he was a liverpool for life man and he went anyway. I have to think that rafa would feel mega red faced if he put in a 12million bid for a striker he didnt want to hold onto. Also have to agree pundits the world over would be giving owen a hard time for comming to a team playing under 1000 mins and leaving,

    Babayaro

i wouldnt say he has good judgement then, if i was picking a game to play in why the hell would you pick a game against i side wanting to push for second in the prem. I'm not saying that he doesn't have a tendancy to disappear to the treatment room for long periods of time but like taylor27 made he was a low cost signing. I think it was more like 1.8 than 1 million though but still if we really want to stop complaining about the back 4 we need to invest into it. 9 million for one off woodgate isn't good enough when you want europe.
  16. i think we have went from one extreme to another, when GS was in charge he bullish got rid of the "rot" and then filled it with the talent he felt the club deserved and 99.9% of the time the guy was plain wrong. FFS really wanted to make the fans happy on making quite a few hiccups and he descided the best was was to throw money at it. It is pritty much the opposite now we have no money we have been touted for a take over a few times and he has become restless he doesnt want to make the same mistake and bank on bankrupcy aka leeds to get where he feels we should never have moved away from. So in some respects roeder is in the shit, he doesnt have a lavish transfer budget and he doesnt want to waste the clubs small pot, so he went out in jan with no cash and lied or was lied too, the youngen's have done the club and themselves proud by comming in and doing a job, ok they dont have the flair and skill as some but we have never had a solid defence and two or three of these lads edgar, huntington and taylor really could have a long term future being young and egar they have probably saved the culb from buying another two or three boumsongs and getting us no further forward. Now injuries are all gone we should now be working really hard to fine "the back four" there are alot of different combinations but now we are out of two cups and gooch is cup tied in the uefa why dont we stick to a league side and dont ship out unless injured. In my opinion it should be solano- taylor-gooch-edgar two youngens and two more experienced players makes a balance and then once we play in the uefa drop gooch for bramble or moore i dont know why he wants to stay playing while we are still fighting not to be dragged back into the bottom third of the table.
  17. I have to agree its hard to say that had bramble and carr had of not been in the team we would have won, I predicted a draw from this game as we really arent that good normally down there. But I like you was left tugging my hair and scratching my head wondering why on earth a suspended nobby through the week would justify carr's stay in the team. As for bramble i think roeder was trying to use "the heavies" two big lads trying to dominate play from set pieces but it just didnt work, taylor has proved to be a starter in the back 4 and i just wish he would have stayed to being in the middle as for huntington I dunno now we know the result i would have preferred him being in the side and keeping gooch on the bench, the lad had only had one practice session and roeder in the past has shown he doesnt rush a player back well i think he maybe should have done the same thing with gooch to settle in, see more practice matches and see which pair would work. I really think at times someone else is telling him what to pick and do as this team selection had me baffled.
  18. i dont think any player earning thousands of pounds per week will ever care about what fans think he still gets paid but if thats gonna be the response then there is no point in talking about any player.
  19. what boils me is that we all know that every player has an off game or even a striker having a barren spell that lasts a few weeks. But this blob has been bouncing up and down the field for tweo seasons being nothing more than a giant waste of space, he is poor in every respect and i find it very hard to put a good spin on any of his play. Get rid please I will give up all my birthdays for the next 3 years if we get shot take him in the middle of a farmers field put him to work there and sign somebody better yet sign some one good.

Bramble at less than £4m would be a dream for any decent man-manager who likes to discipline his players. i dont think discipline would help him he is just these sort of players and i think that a heavy hand would only make him less error prone but the chance would always be there. I dont think any of the top teams would have him for 4million possibly the bottom end hoping that he will come good certainly we as a team hoping to push and play in europe season in and season out should not be relieing on a player like this ever.

for the lads first game im just glad he wasnt sitting on his arse for 90 mins totally out paced or sent off inside 20 mins cause he made one hell of a bad tackle or gave away a penalty. Being composed and simple is all you want for your first game lets hope that once we deside who to play him with he can go from strength to strength.
  22. the thing is that although id be shocked and disappointed if he went in the summer or in two/three seasons time i would understand it was for carear reasons and it is about time that we make a profit on a player and if someone came in offering 23/25 million i would snatch their hands off go buy a 15/20 million pound striker and then use the rest to develop the rest of the squad no one player can be bigger than the team. While saying that selling him on and not taking massive money would mean we would end up wasting it look at some of the prices seen on players either getting onto 30 or playing poorly and still being quoted as 12/13 million the likes of crouch who is playing in a class side making him seem good and the likes of bent that would cost an arm and a leg we may as well try and keep who we have and try our best to keep him happy and doing plenty of goal celebration back flips you only improve if you hold onto your best players. guess ive just argued my own point with myself never mind :pottytrain5:

totally agree even if he just turns out to be average would keep him as a squad player with brambles future in his own hands and moore really wanting to leave gooch is only 24 so there is plenty of seasons left in him. better than offering Bambi a new contract on 30k a week or whatever he's been on this is what i hate about us even if bramble does manage to go on a run of top performances looking solid and then we give him a longer improved contract say 2/3 years. We as fans know he is never going to be error free so garenteed he would only end up getting injured or dropping off or lunging in once a game. Give the lad a higher squad number and tell him to sit in the back of the que and be happy we are keeping him on or ship him out.

I don't think he counts as a risk. he is a risk in the sense that if he plays well till the end of the season and we hope that we can let bramble go or moore (if he goes down hill) and then he turns to be crap we wont buy someone else in the summer for that position. But i dont feel that will happen so fair play to the lad Gooch has seen the ups and downs from us already a shaky but winning performance against mon villa and then the poor performance against smug colemans fulham
