If Pardew had anything about him as a manager he'd have been the one banging on Ashley's door to get Barton out of the club. I'm actually quite confident this might be the case as Barton has always given me the impression he doesn't like Pardew because he's not as easy to dictate to as Hughton was. Pardew now has a blank canvas to shape which way he wants. If he's up to it is a different matter but let's see. Have a word man. I don't know why you think Barton doesn't like Pardew. He has always spoken well of him in the talk-ins.

Need a good win to get back the feelgood factor so we can all be brought back down to earth by the club a couple of days later when they sell another player or something.
-
Lets not forget how well we performed under the constraints of ashley Not a lover by any means but it is amazing how well human beings respond to change despite not wanting it in the majority of cases. However, with the departure of Hughton and Carroll, it was Nolan and Barton who were saying that the club was more important than any one individual and they just had to focus on the next game and asked for the fans to stay with them. Not sure who will be doing that anymore - maybe Carver but that is not quite the same and I don't think anything Pardew says carries much weight now (if it ever did).

How can you say that when we have barely had enough time to judge Cabaye? It's a major ask for these new signings to hit the ground running when they come from a different country/league. Taking to it like to a duck to water (as Robert did) is very rare. And if they fail because they have been thrown in the deep end then it's unforgivable on our part. Look at the way Man Utd bring in players through their team gradually keeping old heads but blooding youngsters where as with teams like us it's be a superstar or f*** off. The thing is we have got to hope they all succeed quickly because otherwise we are going to have a problem and that is not really fair on the new players.
-
Did he lead the shirt throwing? Could have been a sign.... a parting gesture. Thought the same, but obviously didn't want to think about it just after a derby win. He has always been one of the first to go over to the fans and often throws his shirt to the crowd so I didn't see anything unusual.

Wouldn't want the c***, even not for money. On the radio earlier they said he is a nightmare. Often refuses to travel with the first team to matches and makes his own way there and turns up to training when he feels like it - can be 2 hours late sometimes. There would be just too many problems with him at NUFC. Can definitely see there being friction between him and Barton. Warnock says the other players are not allowed to give him the ball in his own half because he is to too much of a liability in that area of the pitch.
-
I do wonder if they would sell him if a decent offer came in considering the central defence has been our strength so far bearing in mind we are struggling for goals. Would be madness but how far would Ashley go with his cost-cutting? Is the cost-cutting more important that guaranteeing PL survival? There has to be a point where no matter how attractive the offer is that the club says no because it would just weaken the team too much.

Maybe he is agreeing to talk to them in the hope that it might finally flush out any other interest. And if he did end up joining QPR, what is the likelihood of him making his debut against us!
-
I can see him being interested in a London club because of his interest in horse racing and he has a house in Newmarket but I would imagine he would take a lot of persuading. QPR need to get a good few decent players to give them a good chance of staying up. If they just ended up signing Barton, it would still be a huge struggle for them.

Still seems to be a bit of an issue between Boys Clubs and the Academy teams. Players aren't told they can't play for anyone else, but... also there tends to be a bit of a hang up over compensation, though I couldn't say (since I really have no idea) which side causes the issue. I seem to remember reading that Sunderland were looking to move in and develop closer links with the clubs in Newcastle because of the friction between NUFC and the Boys Clubs so I hope the issues have been sorted. It is one thing for NUFC to act the big bully at senior level but it does not seem the right thing to do at the lower end of the scale.

http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/9211549.Magpies_stand_firm_over_Pieters_pursuit/ "Whatever happens, Newcastle will travel to Scunthorpe tomorrow without a new addition to the ranks, indeed they could even be a striker down if Nile Ranger completes his proposed move to Birmingham City in the next 24 hours."

Sounds good stuff and it good that you have an insight into all of this and so are able to tell us what is happening. If the club were a bit more open and explained this properly instead of saying we are copying Arsenal then Villa then another club which gives the impression that there is a lack of cohesive planning behind the scenes, I am sure supporters would be more appreciative. Is the relationship any better with the local boys' clubs because they have been very vocal about the way they feel they have been treated by NUFC in the past?

most teams do this to be fair, we have signed a few players...i know theyd be starting positions but this is an aspect im not bothered with, im more concerned with the fact i can see us not signing players at all rather than leaving them late... A lot of teams are leaving it late but it is often because they need to sell players before they can bring in anyone. We have had the money for months and despite what the club might say, I do not believe we are in as bad a situation financially as they like to imply. They said they had replacements lined up for Enrique so we should have been negotiating to bring the player in at the same time as sorting out Enrique's sale. It now looks as if they are only just starting to really try and sort something out and even now, we seem to be saying we are not prepared to pay the fee in which case, why are we not looking to bring someone in we can afford. If we are going to put all our efforts into lowering the price and PSV will not budge then we are going to have a problem. It seems to be that this is where Ashley and Llambias get their kicks - trying to screw other clubs and to hell with the consequences for the football team. What is the point of targetting players out of your price range and then complaining about the selling club not lowering their price. We are not willing to do it when selling players so why should we expect other clubs to do it for us.

I think Barton might move to West Ham but surely he would wait until the end of the season to see if they were promoted first. I cannot believe he would drop down to the Championship unless he was desperate to leave and that was his only option. This must be the first time that a relegated team has targetted Premier League players to get them promoted. I thought West Ham were in a mess financially. Certainly, Gold and Sullivan moaned about the wage bill they inherited when they took over and then recruited players like McCarthy on stupid wages and gave Parker an even bigger contract. This Summer, they have already brought in Nolan, Carew, Joey O'Brien, Matty Taylor, Faye and McCartney from what I can remember.

Ex SAFC massieur. Now working for NUFC. i POSTED IT ON HERE YESTERDAY EENING BUT CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH THREAD THE LINKS ON. Caps f*** it if i'm typing it again "Micky (Holland) our masseur, he has worked at Sunderland and has Newcastle tattoos everywhere – those people, I understand it more from them than anyone else.” http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2011/08/22/alan-pardew-dedicates-triumph-to-the-toon-army-61634-29278571/

From wiki: "Although the fee was undisclosed, it is believed to be £4.5m, with add-ons that could eventually rise to £10.5m." Under £5m, and we couldn't afford him? Pardew was supposed to be the one who was keen but the hierarchy were not convinced.

I was looking at Drew Barton's (brother?) twitter the other day (had the time of his life in the away end on Saturday) but someone asked him about Joey staying and he said "I hope so kid its what we all want."

Thought the same. Don't know if that's where he should be during corners, though. Probably would be better for him to wait outside of the box to take a shot. Nah, that's Tiote's job Joey definitely took some corners. Looks like Joey, Cabaye and Raylor are sharing set piece duties.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3764570/Sunderland-0-Newcastle-1.html "John Carver thinks he has done about 12 of these games and was like a little boy here. I didn't understand what he was saying some of the time. He was just so emotionally involved."

Don't know if it has been mentioned but after the warm up, all of the players came over to applaud the fans and Vukcic (I think it was) was geeing up the fans in a Saylor fashion. I've not seen them do that before as they normally just drift back straight to the tunnel with the odd acknowledgement to the supporters enroute.

lee_ryder Lee Ryder I could hear "I'm Coming Home Newcastle" blasting out of Toon dressing room after derby win, Busker would have been proud #nufc 2 hours ago
