Ashley has been here 7 years now (?) and in that time we have achieved relegation and a 5th place. In the 7 years previously, we were in the Champions League, regularly in the UEFA Cup (quarter final and semi-final), FA Cup semi-final. League places varied - some years we did better than others and we didn't actively look to sell our best players. In the years before that there were FA Cup finals, high league places, European football and exciting football (maybe not 97-99). We had a presence in European football and were included at one stage on one of those organisations for the top Europe clubs. It is not unrealistic for us to expect better based on what we were used to when Ashley took over. Since his takeover, the "football" club has been a failure despite generating a profit although he has been very successful in reducing expectations so now many believe that 10th is the best we can hope for and all we deserve.

Apparently Palace at full-strength against Dover.

Sunday Express Didn't take long He won't move. I think he'll be here for another season and a half. No point going to a huge club until your guarantees to start. IMO. He s***s all over Wellbeck though. Aye -should be looking at £20m at the very least in 18 months. Sell him now we'll struggle fro £10m With what young players are going for now, I would be expecting a lot more than that if he continues to progress at this rate.

That's what really gets me. A football team and its owner should in principle have the same incentives as the fans. Those should be basic fundamentals but have somehow gotten skewed. How on earth can an owner get away with changing the name of a traditional club to 'Tigers' ffs or changing a team's colour from blue to red? Owners should be absolutely terrified of decisions like this. You have to wonder why it isn't in the best interest of Mike Ashley to provide entertaining football and/or strive for success. It's because PL clubs have become the play-things of very rich men, who act on a whim. The government should force through the german model, where no-one person has overall control. However, money and power talk. It really is bringing the game into disrepute to primarily use a football club to promote an outside interest to the exclusion of everything else and to deliberately try and not compete.

Until pre-season, no-one saw the potential of Aarons. He had had the odd decent games for the U21s but there was no great buzz about him only that there was some promise. And really he has played so little that it is hard to judge whether what he has shown thus far would be sustained over a longer period once other teams get to know more about him. We tend to throw players in to a sink or swim situation rather than seemingly have a plan to develop them. Armstrong has promise but when the team is constantly struggling and whose attacking game is non-existent, it does not really help the kid especially when he is not the biggest and they keep hitting long balls to him. Perez is an exception as he seems to be really gifted but he has been playing competitive football albeit at a lower level so he has already had plenty of experience. But it comes back to the same old issue (which I hope they are trying to address now) and that is that they need a good coach who knows how to develop them.

There is still no excuse to not try to be the best you can within your means. We don't even do that. It seems that many in the media are starting to see how Ashley runs the club and are openly critical of it and sympathetic to supporters but can you imagine the furore if one of the media's favourite clubs was bought purely as an advertising vehicle for another company and none of the profit generated was re-invested in the club. He will get far more criticism for a similar approach to Rangers because of their importance to Scottish football. People ask why Newcastle fans perceive NUFC to be a "big" club but one that generates (and has the ability to generate more) the amount of revenue it does means that it should be striving to be in the top 7-8. The media always say a club's budget should dictate where they finish but we constantly fail to do that.
-
If the club has any sense, they will give him an improved contract as his value will soar at the rate he is progressing. Therefore it would make no sense to sell him for a couple of years and he does not seem like a player who will sulk if offers are turned down.

It would be foolish to appoint Carver and if he does, I would not expect Carver to last long (cue the media saying Ashley gave the Geordies what they wanted i.e. one of their own and looked how that turned out - despite most of us being against such an appointment). Surely Carver is one of the reasons why certain players are not developing as they should and seeing as Pardew wrote players off very quickly, the likelihood is such opinions are well entrenched with the coaching staff which shows an underlying need why a new approach is needed. Ashley needs to appoint the best candidate whilst we are still in a decent position. If Carver drags us into a relegation battle, then that may put off potential managers and will certain affect any Summer recruitment plans.

Think it's the prospect of paying up X amount of contracts in the event of a sacking that he doesn't like. He was reportedly very unhappy with paying up the lorryload of staff that Allardyce brought with him. You can't usually get someone to pay for a manager unless they're as dim as Steve Parish. Course, this all begs the question of why he gave an 8 year contract to Pardew and his neanderthals. I can only assume that upon finishing 5th he genuinely thought he had some sort of world class management team on his hands, the f***ing fat brainless c***. Also I think Allardyce must be largely accountable for our current transfer policy because he wasted so much money on utter dross - has beens on big wages and long contracts with no re-sale value that contributed hugely to our relegation. Ashley may well have decided upon the same policy in the end but I am sure he was hugely influenced by Allardyce's buys and that Allardyce then blamed the board for not being more pro-active in getting his preferred choices in - whoever they were.

If Sissoko is leaving, he and both clubs will already know it is happening so I hope they get a move on as the constant speculation is so annoying. I hate the way it is drawn out for the whole month when everything has probably been agreed in principle whilst we get the denials and so on and then the player ends up leaving in the last week. I wonder whether it would be good for him to move this month anyway. Most clubs buy as a reaction to their shortcomings in the previous months rather than as a plan to move forward (e.g. PSG needed a midfielder last year because of injuries and once those players were fit, Cabaye was surplus to requirements). Then I guess the player would have to weigh it up against whether he would get such an opportunity again.
-
Surely that goes totally against the aim of dropping fan expectations? Totally doesn't make sense to me The point is surely that fans might forget about yet another dismal cup exit and getting militant against the owner if they think a good appointment might be on the way. There will even be people scared the chanting could jeopardise a good appointment, I've no doubt about that. It's all a load of manipulated w***. I get trying to dampen the cup but most of the names have been mentioned prior to it, and I don't know if building up the next manager and then not getting anyone decent would be a good strategy But they could say they "tried".
-
"Milking" is not the right word but Carver did drag out applauding the fans and getting the players to get quite close to them so it kind of felt like he was inviting the abuse. The players would have been desperate to get back in to the changing room but with most of them being kids, they had no choice but to hang around until he turned back.
-
Surely that goes totally against the aim of dropping fan expectations? The club have shown previously that they will try and manipulate public feeling when things get too negative so if they can get fans to focus instead on an interesting list of potential managers then it might stop them dwelling on the cup defeat which will see the negativity increase in the coming days especially with likely thrashings from Chelsea and Southampton to come.
-
At least he doesn't have to suffer Pardew's "adoring" eyes anymore.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if the press are being used to dilute the fan's fury at today's game by dropping names that might get fans excited.

Starting to get a bit awkward for Ashley at Rangers. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/rangers/11322883/Rangers-FC-news-Mike-Ashleys-ownership-plans-derailed-by-Dave-King.html

5 Live says it is confirmed.

Radio said it was not expected to be announced until tomorrow.

Pards has missed out again.
-
I did wonder if there is a connection.
-
Ando questioned what was up with Sammy as apparently he missed a game through illness and has not been seen since. Has he picked up an injury?
-
Like Allardyce, he will rewrite history and continue to re-inforce the stereotypical view of Newcastler fans i.e. we don't like southerners, have unrealistic expectations and expect to win the league/champions league every year etc.

When's the c*** leaving? I'll rephrase: how much longer do I have to put up with the shithouse scouse c***? They seem to think it will be at the end of this season.
