Would be good if we could run out to the tune from Local Hero tomorrow.

Ashley has given us a chance with this. Something had to be done and to his credit he has gone out and taken decisive action - at long last. Some on here had dismissed any suggestion of getting someone in as too late; it aint over yet, let's see what this produces. Scarves out on Saturday let's get the atmospehere cranked up. :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi: :indi:

This ticketless fans issue is of relatively minor importance. Fans with tickets pushing to get in was of far more importance. And that was of much lesser importance to the decision making of the police. Many of us will have been in that end around that time. We usually played down there around holiday periods, we took large numbers and you didn't need a ticket. The police and the public didn't have a good relationship and police and football fans less so. Access to that end is narrow and poor, once in you head down the tunnel and into the centre section. Every time I have been in the centre sections get filled before the side pens get opened. I think the police were used to seeing fans getting a bit of a crush and that happened every time I have been there. The fans outside have no idea of the situation inside and you naturally push forward. The police could have controlled the crowd outside with horses and queue calming measures. The decision to open the gates was fatally flawed. The fans unwittingly contributed but they weren't doing anything unexpected.

I well remember watching this on Grandstand & have also been in the Leppings Lane end a few times. There is a narrow walk up to it and once in there are narrow entries into the pens. It isn't well planned and needs good policing. We always take good numbers down there and the policing has always been a bit harsh. As a 16 year old I nearly wasn't allowed in for being "drunk", I hadn't had a drink & we'd been in a convoy escorted from the motorway by the police. They'd park you up and the fans were left to make their own way to the ground. Once at the ground the police were arrogant and disinterested in good policing. All the ingredients for a disaster were already there. The police must take the major share of the blame for incompetence in not taking control. But as hard as it may be to accept there was a large number of Liverpool fans who turned up late, many without tickets and did what was normal; tried to force their way in. They clearly didn't mean and have any idea what was to happen, but it did happen. If you had been to Hilsborough around that time you will know what that end was like. I'm not having a go at the fans but you unfortunately have to consider what contribution some of their actions led too.

Babel Fish translation Coloccini = Almost Bramble, nearly Boumsong. The way he fell over in the box yesterday brought back memories. He is better than his recent performances suggest - I think.

We have an international break and that gives Ashley the time to get someone in.

I put this thread up after being at the match, and then the pub, having again witnessed us drop precious points through the lack of a manager. We do not react on the field when other teams start asking questions of us. Hughton stands on the touchline making gestures but never gets his point across or any reaction from the players. Some of the players then hide, keep their eyes to ground and we crumble into chaos. For 20 minutes in the 2nd half the team were all over the shop. That should never happen, at any level. We still have a chance of stopping up but we will need to get at least 9 points from the remaining home games and not lose at Stoke. That is the bare minimum requirement and we will not get those points under Hughton. Ashley made a monumental mistake with Kinnear and has gone on to compound this with subsequent actions. You will only ever get anywhere by not accepting what is wrong and by attempting to take the right actions to make improvements or at least stop the slide. We still have enough games to stay up but he must make a short term appointment and have a long term plan for a permanent manager. I'm not too bothered who the short term manager is; anyone would be better than Hughton. JK may feel he can come back but there is too much pressure now and if I were his medical advisor I'd be against coming anywhere near us. That Ashley couldn't/ can't see this is beyond belief. Curbishley, Robson, Venables in fact any out of work manager should be invited in.
-
Correct, he gets booed for the team being 3-1 down Oba gets his name chanted for an awful penalty. They all need encouragement.
-
I'm almost beyond the point of no return. Anyone with half a brain could see that Hughton is a disaster and that Kinnear is not well enough to even attempt management. Hughton proved after KK that he was impotent as a manager and the appointment of Kinnear was doomed. That there are 2 year contracts on the table is a fucking disgrace. If we go down it is down the Ashley, 100%, no question. We have a team looking for guidance, that needs confidence and direction from the sideline. Instead we have a crocked, out of touch manager and a fuckwit of a standin. I'm not even going to attempt to say more. Absolutely fucking useless. the End.

Chronic lack of pace and creativity in the centre of our midfield is the biggest problem; by a country mile. We can play Jonas/ Duff on the right and just about get away with we have nothing in the centre.
-
We have a squad that is too good to go down, but, anyone with half a brain can see that the midfield lacks pace and creativity and that the strikers are all injury prone. Throughout the team there are questions over commitment and motivation. We would struggle to put out our best 11 on any kind of consistent basis all season. What was imperative was that the management team was up to scratch. It isn't, it is terrible and if we go down it will be down to this and down to Ashley. The managerial position is disgusting.

Just seen the goal, cross took a deflection & the finish was fantastic.
-
Now let's see what were made of. We don't deserve this and need to make the most of it.
-
They don't have the heart for this & the Hughton can't motivate. We need a spark.

Our 1973-75 away Brazil kit was the business and the 73-74 home kit also takes some beating. The socks, the socks, the socks. I can still see Supermac sprinting at Hilsborough and swinging his right boot at Bolton.

I've read bits of this thread; it shows you need to be at the match. Raylor made a shocking error for the winner however if Colo hadn't stopped running he would have got to the ball first. I have no idea why a pro would simply stop, it was lik e he was waiting for the whistle. Two other things; Steve Bennett must be Man U's stooge; he took shit from them all match, he booked Rio at half time but allowed him to take the piss all second half. Geremi as we know can't run but he can't pass now either. He has received praise on here for his distribution; it was fucking terrible, I lost count of the niumber of misplaced passes he made. I completing a few 10 yard passes counts then he was great, if consistently picking the right ball, long or short and actually to the player or space counts then he was wank. We did quite well, we ran out of legs & had they not scored the second when they did I think they would have stepped up and scored anyway. We had our chances in the first half, had we gone 2 up we may have secured a point.

His goal down at Pompey (live on ITV in the days when there were hardly any live games) in the promotion season was sensational. Any player to have the poise to do what he did from 2 yards out is worthy of the tag legend. I remember shouting "hit it" at the tv and he simply dummies, takes out a big cigar as the defender slides on by & then casually puts the ball in. Magic. PS look at youtube Peter the Great

If that idiot thinks that team are good enough to get 46 points then I fear again that the transfer window will prove a disaster. 46 points; that would see us pushing 9th or so. I reckon 38 points may be enough but only just and by goal difference. I think we'll get 40.
-
I'll be very interested in what the letter will say, I've signed up for 3 years & the direct debits started this month. If I don't receive a concession I'll be major pissed off. What price my loyalty?
-
Fans around me were applauding Nolan as he walked off; what the fuck for? The same twats boo Shola every time he touches the ball, then applaud Nolan for getting us down to 10 men. Shola may be largely shite but come on get a grip on how to best support the team.
-
I think you may need to revise your understanding of the words knock & hatred.

Owen must be in our top 5 of worst transfers ever and it was predictable, only the type of injuries weren't. That is simply bollocks. I'm not Owen's biggest fan and yes we all knew we were signing a player who would miss games but when he has played he has scored and he was the main man at the back end of last season when we were in real trouble. To put him alongside the likes of Boumsong, Marcelino, Luque, Maric, Guivarch and the like is bollocks. big difference is owen has cost this club £40 million in transfer fees and wages goes down as the worst the club has made imo I reckon if you weighed up the costs v the points won, revenue via merchandise & game minutes played that Owen would be well ahead of that lot. Seems like it is in vogue to now knock Owen as he's going to leave. We knew what we were buying & to be fair that is what he has delivered; goals & injuries.

He completely lost his way here, him and Duff ran round like a couple of mad dogs chasing their own tails. Each had to do a 360 as soon as they got the ball. Mind you Souness deploying him as the water carrier for the play maker that was Amdy Faye was something else. I still get the shivers thinking about just what the fuck Souness was on. It must have been some serious gear.
