Haven't read the threads. He's a good player, in a new team & he is no-where near match fit. It will take a few games yet. Alan Smith is a different matter - how is he in the England squad?

The Italian police are shocking with football related matters. In both Turin & Milan they let the home fans do what they wanted when we played over there & tried to take mobile phones from fans taking pictures. In Turin they simply let the fans through the police line so that they could get closer to us to chuck their bottles of p*ss.

Travelled more than 400 miles specifically to watch a game. For WC Match I've included a qualifier. If the Toon winning the Old First Division counts I'll have that as well . I've also seen an Intertoto match & really can't remember if I was at the Cup Winners Cup game against Partizan so I've left that out.

If it's all PR from MA - it's good stuff. If it's for real he is now officially an adopted Geordie

We got out of jail today. The annoying thing is that had we played a more positive game I think we would have won. We played in the hope to keep it goaless & then nick one. What we did was to allow them to get a foot hold in the game & become the better side. btw, Barton & Smith were awful & Owen doesn't fit into BS's current tactics.

If Chopra scores it will surely be down to a defensive error & he'd have every right to celebrate.

I've seen a number of kids who didn't live up to expectation, hype or simply didn't have enough talent. More so when we were really crap. Some went on to be reasonably successful (Joe Allon was named North East Sports Personality of the Year iirc & Andy Hunt scored plenty goals (but got injured again iirc). I don't see the point of a thread having a go at these kids; what message does it give the present youngsters? I'd rather talk about the money grabbing "superstars" we've had & didn't produce - now they deserve abuse.

Regardless of formation BS will put Geremi in. He is captain, we have lost the last home game 4:1 & we are now playing the mackems.

I left with about 10 minutes to go. 4-1 down with the game peetering our (as it had been from around 25 minutes in) I feel more than jusitified in leaving early. The fans had shown up to that point enough loyalty & support to the team. The fact is that the game was over after 11 minutes (but we weren't to know that then), we did nothing to change the course of the final result in our favour & the club, manager & players could not have complained if there was no-one left at full time. .com are wrong to condemn the fans who left shortly before the end. Having spent over £30 of hard earned cash I feel entitled to have seen better.

He did and we should have moved Faye in there to try and combat that problem.. Too much sense there. Go down that road and you end up identifying the threat beforehand & start with Faye in midfield alongside Barton. BS obviously thought that Butt could do the job & is a good 5 inches/ 2 stone bigger than he actually is. a tad simplistic. diop isn't great regardless of his size but yes he did dominate yet how many would have identified him as a threat beforehand ? bit like saying "we should really watch out for pamarot shooting from distance" The threat Diop can pose is well known. Big club moves had been mooted & he has caused us problems before. BS has has a wealth of information to draw from. He clearly thought Butt could do the job. There wasn't anything (other than a better clearance) that could have been done about Pamarot's shot so the likeness doesn't stand up. We got just about anything & everything wrong in Saturday's game.

I agree with this team, but I think Roz or Taylor should be in instead of Cacapa for the extra aerial pressence against Jones. aye, i was pissed when i wrote it, roz for cacapa but faye at the back to counter jones is a must. I'd agree with this. Viduka's presence would be a massive boost.

Diop dominated the midfield. We had absolutely nothing to stop him. Take away the first 11 minutes & I think we would still have struggled regardless given the formation, line-up & tactics we started with.

A lot of what you said was quite true, but the last bit about Pompey's passing being better brings up a whole load of other issues. Pompey's passing was probably better through better movement, better running, more pace.....you get my drift. All very true. We'll never really know how wrong BS got his tactics as the games was over after 11 minutes. If I were Cacapa I'd have given Faye & Taylor a royal kicking afterwards as they exposed his weaknesses for the 2nd & 3rd goals as both times (not through his fault) he got isolated as the last man too high up the pitch.

Bulgaria v Romania SJP Euro '96. Crap - got there 20 minutes late, missed the goal; but did see another "goal" disallowed despite being 10 foot over the line. Orient 0 Yeovil 0 - last season; was supposed to be at the Emirates watching us draw but couldn't get a ticket. Off topic - best games seen at the Mackems: 2:1 O'Brien game. Mackems 0 Norwich 1 Milk Cup Final (all the mackems where I was thought Walker had scored from the penalty, until the ball carried on passed the post & the back of the net. The Gillingham game where they were relegated to the 3rd Divison was class, stood in the Fulwell having a right laugh.
-
What are people thinking now? BS made a right pig's ear of his selection and tactics yesterday. He was right to take Cacapa off but he was left woefully exposed for the 2nd & 3rd goals thanks to poor play by others around him.
-
Spurs were very poor. Their supporters really do live in cloud cuckoo land if they truly do believe that are set to challenge Arsenal.
-
Anyone who witnessed Clattenburg's performance in Shearer's testimonial will know how crap he is. Even the most vehement supporter must agree that we should never have been awarded a penalty......

The Sun is mischief making. Owen wasn't booed, the boos were for Martin's coming off - as has happened in earlier games. Very naughty journalism. The southern press have it in for us, as have Talk Sport & 5 Live. Talk Sport reckon we don't deserve Owen - no idea how that one works out, we took him when no-one else wanted him & his continuing injury record will not attract the bigs clubs.

Happy Days. I like the ESPN synopsis - Only 36,000 turned up to watch the likes on Keegan, Waddle & Beardsley. What they should have said was - It was bloody heaving & if you didn't get their early you wouldn't get in.
-
We didn't get tickets but travelled over. We left Amsterdam at about 4pm & stayed overnight in a B&B just over the road from the Station - just as well as we slept in after a heavy night & had 5 mins to catch the train! We didn't see any of the trouble, which is probably why we watched the 1st half in a bar that was wall to wall Alkmaar scraves, flags etc, everyone wearing Alkmaar tops & singing very loudly & drunkenly. The three of us stood drunkenly with our toon tops on drew a good fews glares & comments but thankfully no trouble. The locals probably thought we were simply mental after the bother that had gone one. Two - nil down at half time & we decided to watch the 2nd half elsewhere.

SA does have a problem. He should have put Given back in once he was fit; he didn't & Given is clearly short of confidence. Whereas Harper was once relatively happy to play 2nd fiddle he must now be banging on SA's door asking why he isn't in. On form, Given should now be dropped & if he remains on the bench he will want to go (Arsenal badly need a keeper & there has been previous rumours). Competition for places is good but where keepers are concerned you should pick your number one at the first opportunity. SA didn't & he has a problem. I think he will stick with Given, we all know he will come through this.

when keegan scored 3 or 4? away from home? if so then the game was class i watched it on one of me dads videos Forgot about this, has it been on? Yes, Keegan scored 4, a young lad who only played a couple of time scored the other (Kevin Todd?) with a cross & someone from the crowd jumped on his back. It was Terry Mc's debut (second time around) & Emlyn Hughes played for them. I think they also missed a penalty. lol.

I laughed out loud! Jesus Chrst. Im by no means one of those that cant wait to get on their high horse at the first opportunity, but thats bang out of order. Good luck Bob. Ditto

The fact that the Milan manager & Seedorf both said that Celtic's support was amongst the best & that the result was not affected shows that they may just be a tad embarrassed by Dida. The problem for Uefa is that Celtic failed to stop the fan getting on the pitch & regardless of how hard he touched Dida he did make contact. I'd have though a sizeable fine & at least one match behind closed doors. The fan should be put in stocks before the next home game & then never be allowed in again. He was bloody stupid & no doubt regrets it (the touch on the face almost looks like an after thought - I'll take the p@ss, oh hang on, I'll touch his face as well).
