Beye looked the biz
-
Some things were made even clearer yday: You can only play 2 of Butt, Geremi, Smith in midfield Smith is a forward, cannot play midfield & cannot hold a wide position Owen is not fit; Martins has to start Our shape & balance improved beyond measure once Zog moved up, Milner changed flanks & Smith moved up top. Having seen the improvement BS should be shot if he continues to play Zog at LB & Smith in midfield Beye looks a class act, a real athlete
-
We need to play a pair that can best compete against Bellenders pace & Ashtons physical presence & skill. Roze & Cacapa for me but that's only because I don't know enough about Faye or Beye. I wouldn't play Taylor in the middle; I think he'd end up in the book early on against either of them.
-
I'm glad someone said it. It was a lop-sided 4-4-2, like. We played 442 with no width/ wide threat, Smith didn't keep a wide position & Milner only served to stop Zog getting forward. As a result Taylor went galloping down the right or we pumped the ball up to Ameobi who had a complete shocker.
-
BS has said we were tired after the international week with the implication that Derby had benefited from not having as good players as us........... Much as I like BS that statement is Souness-esque.
-
I meant to mention; I can't remember a top flight game where a team put as many passes into touch.
-
Haven't read any of the posts; don't need to, saw the match & a few things were glaring: We had no pace or movement through midfield, we played in a 442 formation but most balls were played through the middle & Zog was not able to join up as a wide threat. Ameobi had a shocker, Smith had a shocker (yet stayed on & was given the armband!). BS had a shocker; it was obvious early on that we were struggling to control the game, could not get service to Owen & we were not a threat. BS could have changed to 433 or even stayed with 442 but have moved Zog up & Geremi back. I don't know why he took no action when the game was there to be won. Derby were very poor & they deserved to win. We need Viduka back; but he is starting to show his injury weakness & we need Enrique in to allow Zog into a wide left position. I'd drop Butt or Smith (probably Smith). At right back; take your pick. Taylor did ok but Beye looks a player. As for Owen; yes he got injured & didn't get the service but I'm sure Martins would have made a greater contribution. I'd put Given back in goal at the first opportunity but Harper has not done anything wrong, his distribution was good & he didn't stand a chance with the goal. Geremi has to take any blame for that.

[ftp]A bit self indulgent but these make me smile, 'cos I took 'em & I was on the piss (Inter is very very blurred). If this doesn't sorry work - sorry I haven't a clue how to upload any photo's! http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/4789/img0374cs2.th.jpg]http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/4789/img0374cs2.th.jpg http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/8826/sansiro110303012no7.th.jpg http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/664/broonbottlevy1.th.jpg http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/4456/toonvbarca2ru7.th.jpg

The best thing about that photo is the way that O'Brien is the only onle in the entire photo celebrating....He really did know it was a goal from the moment it left his foot! Fantastic photo, the way Liam knows before anyone else that he's scored. I was sitting just under in the Clock Stand. My first NUFC away win.

We are away; they are at home & are bottom of the league. The pressure is far greater on Derby for this match & we should use that to our advantage. Why play an expansive game & let them play as well?
-
I think Sam will stick with 433 away from home, the pressure is on Derby to perform & I think we aim to stifle them & then hit them on the break. I'd like to see: Given (pick your best keeper - now is the time to put Given back in) Taylor, Cacapa, Rozehnal, Enrique (wouldn't have PL debuts for both Beye & Enrique) Geremi, Butt, N'Zogbia Milner, Viduka, Owen

Disagree, my ST is 5rows from the front and i wouldn't comtemplate sitting anywhere else. I had a season ticket 4 rows from the front of L7 (Milburn Stand) & now am in the Milburn Paddock about 13 rows from the front & the Paddock is not only better it is cheaper! My ideal choice of seat (take away your Platinum/ Sports Bar etc seats) would be in the middle of the East Stand.

Didn't mean to steal a thread; Mods can add the poll to the thread if they wish.
-
What will Sam do? We have had a nice break & have more players available. Pick 1 formation, 1 keeper & 10 outfield players. Sam has some big decisions to make.
-
Depends how far back you are & if you sometimes wear glasses make sure you do if you sit there. The worst thing is the walk up.
-
I think Viduka could well be that Heskeyesque type player you are looking for. He is big, strong, decent in the air, like Heskey is not a particularly selfish player & has the added abilities of vision, skill, can pick a pass & can also finish. His problems are his lack of mobility, speed, motivation & too many injuries. So; ideally what we really should be looking for is a Viduka type player............

Beckham was never a winger, he was a right sided midfielder. You say potato, I say potato. One in the same in the 4-4-2 formation he played under.
-
Beckham & Figo fit the bill; but they also show that without pace a winger really does need to be fantastic in other aspects of their game. Milner is very hard working but there is no magic. He is doing the job asked of him but I don't think that long term that he can stay as an out & out winger. I'd imagine Milner also accepts that. Within our current squad Martins would be the best option; as he showed against Wigan. Duff played at times on the right for Chelsea & we may also that once he is fit.
-
RIP - seen that goal twice already this morning.......... Just hope that Ronnie Radford is fit & well.
-
He should get a similar deal to other players his age, experience & starting place regularity. Nowt wrong with the club offering a new deal or him turning it down. His dad should have declined to say anything & keep any negotiations private. Spouting off in public doesn't do any favours.

Could have been a stink bomb, a water bomb or even Bon Bon. I don't think it was intended to be racist (misguided humour perhaps), it rhymed, wasn't sung offensively (from the TV anyway) & Mido & Southgate both used it as a means to justify Mido's reaction. Remember Mido was asked to stop then ran half way up the pitch & turned around for more. There is no place for racism or bigots & these people should rightly be hounded out. The incident with Mido would have been best avoided but I don't believe there was any malicious intent behind it, ignorance yes, but should you be damned for that or simply be educated to know better? We get our own amount of stick but as a majority society that seems acceptable even when the insult is said with real malice intent.

I attended my 1st away game at Roker Park in 1977 & we drew 2-2. I was 12 years old & never thought that I wouldn't see the Toon win away until 1992 some 15 years later when we won 2-1 at the same Roker Park thanks to that O'Brien free kick (sitting in the Clock Stand ). Well worth waiting for. Now, I didn't go to loads of away games during those 15 years, but I did go to places like Grimsby (drew), Huddersfield (drew) & Cambridge where we lost 1-0 & when Cambridge had set a league record for consecutive home games without a win; until we turned up with a team romping the league. In all I attended between 15 - 20 away games during those 15 years (not many but I started young & then got a bit supersticious). What was your 1st away day win & how long did it take?

We're in Milan you know Sun'lands going down you know

He's Black he's Broon he's playing for the Toon, Howard Gayle, Howard Gayle. 1982 Grimsby Away, Christmas, loads of lads in fancy dress & he scored.

I see few people after me have raised sitting with there mates, HAVE THEY ASKED!!! It is why I have highlighted the above, they do this & it is no problem, they dont charge, just bung all your applications in the same envelope with a covering letter when you renew your season tickets. I think sometimes the Box Office gets a bad rap but I have found asking them or raising what your not happy with via Newcastle United Customer Service department your problems get sorted out. I asked & got ignored for 2 seasons running.
