We can disagree on that, looks to me that Pope is absolutely looking to impede Jimenez, not much, but enough. Jimenez is definitely looking for the contact and I don’t understand why.

With the “high bar” for clear and obvious then either way VAR weren’t going to overturn the onfield decision. Jimenez knew what he was doing but so did Pope. Most referees would have given a penalty and sent Pope off.

Think he’s trying to become more involved in team play and less frustrating to play with. He has to stop the clever stuff around his in box. He gave the ball away by attempting a high risk turn on the corner of his own 18 yard box that lead to a really dangerous free kick and good save from Pope. You got to play safe in those areas.

Absolute nailed on penalty. Pope looks at Jimenez, moves to block him and while Jimenez makes sure he collides with Pope it’s a foul and red all day long.

Schar should come straight back in but does he play both Wilson and Isak (slightly off Wilson), does he rest Almiron, does he play Bruno slightly deeper(as neither Longstaff or Willock are as strong on the ball as Jo or Bruno). Personally, I’d give Isak and Wilson a go and if we go that way, Howe has to balance how he sets up. I’d rest Almiron for Gordon and if Willock is fit, is he the safer option to ASM? Going to be a difficult game.
