The lad in the camel coloured coat and his mate, with a withering look from a Newcastle fan. Absolute stereo type Man U fans.
-
We sing Hark now hear the Geordies sing, the Sun’land ran away” when we play them. It’s not the first song we sing and it’s not sang in their faces believing that if anything kicks off that someone else will jump in for them. There was another group of Man U fans at the end of the carriage who’d actually been beside us in the pub at the station (no colours, quiet) that also started Shearer songs. A group of Newcastle fans literally smiled and cuddled them.
-
Is there any reason why Man U fans immediately start with the antagonising songs as opposed to support their own team songs? We got the train from Marylebone to Wembley and the first songs were both Shearer songs, from lads that clearly thought that they’d out number Newcastle fans. That soon stopped as the train got swamped with Newcastle fans but they immediately tried it again once off the train (and soon stopped again). They could quite easily have received a good slap and have had no complaints as they were clearly intent of taking the piss and acting the big lad.

Looking back, I’ve no doubt some were suffering from the day after the night before and the goals finished some off. The atmosphere was pretty good but they scored with their first real attempt and scored shortly after with a here we go again goal. I don’t think anyone there expected us to come back from that, we’ve been there before, many times. I went into that match with far higher expectations than either 98 or 99 and yes, I accepted defeat when the 2nd went in. It felt the most Newcastle thing ever. When we get there next time, let’s leave Trafalgar Sq for when we’ve won.
-
Don’t know where to post this but, huge, huge well done to those involved in the Trafalgar Sq clean up, warm words. Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg from Westminster City Council said: “I want to say a big thank you to the Toon Army for their spotless performance when it came to cleaning up Trafalgar Square. “It may have been a rubbish result for Newcastle United, but they scored when it came to removing bottles and beer cans and bagging them up. As the councillor responsible for keeping Westminster clean - and a Manchester United fan into the bargain - the tidy Toon Army are welcome to the capital any time.”

There was a distinct lack of ball boys/ girls as well, loads of time wasting by Man U as well. If that had been us you can guarantee there’d have been 8 mins added.
-
We saw quite a few leave early, we heard the final whistle from the concourse and they beat us out.

Great words Mike, safe journey.

Not sure how anyone could say we were the better side. They scored a really soft, routine, goal from a set piece and we didn’t really lay a glove of them at any point. Thought they got to rub for most of the 50/50 decisions but we lost as we didn’t defend a set piece and we didn’t get in behind them very much and on the odd occasion we did the options weren’t there. Miggy should have played Wilson (?) in but that was it. Man U looked far more likely to score a 3rd than we did a 1st, I guess that was down to us trying to press. I was pretty disappointed with our performance.
-
I was block 527 right next to the Man U fans, they stood all game but the one’s near us were very quiet. We generally did sit down but we were singing. Our end was definitely louder in the most part. If we’d have scored 1st, when they did, it would have been off the map.
-
They really didn’t. Wembley Way might have been a different story but I and most Newcastle fans approached the ground from the other direction. I hardly saw a Man U fan all day. Inside the ground they outsang is a bit once the game was done and for the first 15 mins or so of the 2nd half it was generally quiet from both ends. I was right next to their lot so got a fairly good reflection on the noise.

Was never a penalty mind

RIP Motty, don’t mind that Radford goal, hell of a strike and we only had ourselves to blame for losing. Seem to remember we went to Man U and won the following week. Didn’t win again there until Cabaye’s goal.

Shame we never sing “We are the Geordies” or “Drink, drink, wherever we may be” anymore. -
Put the fucker in goal, that’ll show him.
-
He’ll be doing extra training this week and work with the back 4 so they have an opportunity to understand each other a bit better. If he can get through the 1st 20 mins or so he’ll be ok. Tell him to keep it simple but he has to show he’s confident. I’m sure we’ll get his head in the right place.
-
I think that clip included his saves as well. We need to put Velcro on his gloves and shirt.
