Well, our central midfield cover is poor, and my suggestion is to get 1 defencive midfielder, 2 left backs, 1 right back and at least 1 more central defender.

I think we can conclude with the fact that Newcastle United is cursed. Joey Barton plays one and a half match and gets a broken metatarsal from a friendly game against Carlisle. How is tat possible?

Sams new system of play is being learned by the players at the moment, it will take a few games for the system to pay real dividends, this is what the pre-seasons are about, especially for new managers getting used to the players and the players getting used to the new styles of coaching and play, if this match was 3 months into the future (FA Cup for example) it doesn't matter which team we would have put on the pitch we would have beaten Carlisle 4-0 probably. Also pre-seasons aren't competitive really and as Sam said we have the skill but yesterday we were a bit 'misguided'.

Emre and Butt is decent starting central midfield, they worked well last season. Owen and Ameobi will be fit for the new season as will Taylor, not sure what this sudden gloominess is about its only Barton and Duff that will miss the seasons beginning.

I dont think Given would benefit the team being captain because of his position Talyor is to young so for me Barton would be my choice.

They are only winning cause of some great keeping, we have played much better and dominated. Agree with Dragon too though pre-season doesn't matter at all really, just like alot of warm up games.

From what i read and listened to, sounds like we played alright had some good moments, with Barton and Martins linking well on some occasions. Comical marking from Carr and Ramage (i think) all todays game showed is how we need 2 more defenders at least.

Man Utd and Arsenal would still get massive attendances even if they were not winning things. Up until last year Man Utd had only won the league once in five seasons, yet they were still selling out every week. Arsenal have had a poor two years yet they still sell out easily.

 

Man Utd and Arsenal don't require a loyal support, they just have the massive shear number of supporters were unlikely to ever have.

Anyway id love him here, just a class player the clubs that have been chasing him shows his calibre and having him in our team would be excellent, hes not as good as mascherano or makalele but hes better than all the other DMs out there, including Butt.

Before Baggio gets there, I will ask you politely. Why do you have this opinion, and how is Duscher better than Butt?

Duscher is a superior DM than Butt, hes quicker, stronger and much harder in the tackle he will protect the defense so much better as he can cover the pitch quicker. only problem with duscher is that he gives free kicks away but refs in the prem are much more lenient than european refs.
