The BBC Newcastle Region is the "North East and Cumbria" . . .

The sign being exactly the same as it used to be is a big part (for me) of letting our former owner know exactly what we think of him and what he did with this. Shearer's is B A C K as if it had never gone away !!!!!!

Yes, 10 Bilion to one!

I will use the same 'format' as the Opening Post by gbandit . . . European Fairs Cup Era (68-71) Highs: Winning the European Fairs Cup in our first season playing in Europe in 1969. The tournament was called the "Inter Cities Fairs Cup" that first season, but changed its name during that year and when we were defending the trophy the following season it was as the "European Fairs Cup". These were great years of great European nights, with 60,000+ at St James' Park and the all-match-long noise levels being something that has never been matched at SJP since, though we have got close! It was great fun to have WON a huge trophy, remember the Fairs Cup was so much stronger a tournament then than it became as the UEFA Cup and as (the current) Europa league, because at that time only one team from each country played in the European Cup ('Champions League') so most of the best teams in Europe were in the Fairs Cup. Lows: There was the growth of the 'lack of ambition of the Board' feelings, as we did not really kick on from winning the Fairs Cup. Our best goalscorer, Bryan 'pop' Robson forced his way out of the club specifically for that reason. The main European Low was almost (strangely) a "high" when we were magnificently defending our Fairs Cup Trophy in Season 1969/1970 and reached the Quarter Final and played RSC Anderlecht, a great side. The night of 18th March 1970 was a great night, the noise that night was possibly louder even than previous Fairs Cup matches, it was incredible. It was the 2nd leg of the Quarter Final and we had lost the away leg 0-2, but fought back to be winning the 2nd leg 3-0. We were going through to the semis (as we deserved to) when a bloke called Nordhal slammed one in from distance with his left foot, and we went out on the 'away goals' rule. Nordhal afterwards said that he couldn't believe what he had done, as he 'only used his left to stand on' !! it was a great night though, so you see what I mean when I said this 'low' was also a 'high', and a signal that (at that time) we were going places as a Big European Club.

The Inter Cities Fairs Cup / European Fairs Cup results are not detailed in the same way as it's replacement UEFA Cup / Europa League results are, on the UEFA Website, simply because another organisation ran it, not UEFA. Of course that is the case as UEFA list "their competitions results" only, it is just the same principle as not being able to buy a 'Marks & Spencer labelled' jumper in 'Primark', and vice versa. The European Fairs Cup, as it was called for most of the years we were in it from season 1969/1970 onward, was a much bigger tournament and far harder to win then, than it became later as the UEFA Cup, simply because each country only had one team in the European Cup (the 'Champions League' to be) at that time, so most of the top sides that are now in the Champions league, were playing in the Fairs Cup. However, all of those facts do not suit the 'brain-dead' agendas of certain morons !!!

They are exactly the opposite of that. They are fantastic, big time, such an absolutely G R E A T thing to do !!!

Knew it !!!!

It "helps" them improve - don't make things up.

Something I have never been. I am just a realist, aware of the truth.
-
Well, I have not 'heard a lot of this' I usually just hear (and read) the opposite ! I'm afraid that I have lost my 'workings' at the same time as I lost my workings that show that night follows day, and the world is round !!!

Saudi Arabia is a country that is very much moving in a civilising and western direction to consolidate their future, post-oil. An important part of that is their acquisition of us.We (us in Newcastle and the UK) will have an excellent civilising influence, medium-term and long-term, on their country and how they treat their people. This is the amazingly positive aspect of our Takeover by the Saudi P I F, that is so "enthusiastically ignored" by anti-Saudi people and the anti-Saudi Media . . . because it's reality does not fit in with their pre-conceptions and their tunnel vision agendas. So, to answer your point above, I am not dreaming, but it will not happen to us, quite the reverse for the reasons stated !!!

Chris Wood is doing an effective job, but others are scoring the goals, and I feel that he really needs to get one or two himself, very soon. I have no doubt that he will start scoring soon, and it would seem logical that the game against Southampton would be a very good place to start. Watch this space . . .

Bruno for Willock. I know the positions are not exactly the same, but I think Willock is currently the weakest of our middle three. I agree the other two changes, and I think they WILL happen.
-
Not sure if you were asking me, or HTT II, but to answer your question, I do not love ALL architecture as so much of it (old and new) is sub-standard, but I do love all "High Quality Architecture Old and New", and we have a lot of that in our elegant City Centre.

Bland? What a weird thing to even think, let alone to actually write . . .
-
It would be a difficult problem, but definitely not impossible to solve with the Reuben Bros expertise in this type of thing, and their financial clout, as well as P I F and their financial clout - in conjunction with a favourable City Council.
-
WHAT? Demolish our "beautiful new" East Stand?? SEE ALSO . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/newcastle-as-it-might-have-been.1009531/post-53665235 (YES - I actually agree that the best thing to do would be to replace the "old" East Stand !!!!!!)

Nowhere on the outskirts, eg next to Newcastle Racecourse at Gosforth Park, or near Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park etc, has been mentioned. The only places so far mentioned are in the City Centre at Castle Leazes or Newcastle Arena.

Probably the space for them, but the developer is building 'riverside apartments' and already has planning approval for that location. Unlikely to want to 'swap', and then wait for goodness knows how many years before he can eventually start building. Nothing is impossible, but . . .
-
If that gets built, there would not be enough room for a football stadium, as the only space left would be the footprint of the actual current Arena. The 1,100 homes would have been built on the site to the right of the Arena in this photo . . .
-
The empty site shown in my earlier post, next to (to the south of) the current Arena, has just had planning approval for these 1,100 homes and a hotel . . .
-
Gosh !!! London football club over-praised by the London Media . . . shock !
-
This photo shows how much space there is in and around the Newcastle Arena Site, which will become available after the Arena moves to the new NewcastleGateshead Quays Arena Site . . . Here is what a new NUFC Stadium could look like after construction on the above site . . .

It is bad grammar as written like that it does not reflect reality as we know it now to be. If you wished to be accurate, rather than making 'a point' for some reason, instead of writing "TBF we are a regular relegation candidate" you would have automatically written "TBF we have been a regular relegation candidate". That's all I'm saying - accuracy.
