The U12 thing was just to emphasize that it's something you're taught from a very young age to do and I don't see a lot of it at the top level. A nice dipping shot or one that skirts on the deck is a great opportunity to score from distance when the ground is wet like it is.
Why don't more players try and take shots from outside the box when it's raining like this? You learn that when you're playing for the U12s. Rain = Shots
if the wingers do well, their will be gaps for them to exploit, same with fullbacks
