  1. With the right stadium I think it could be an option sold as north of England / Scotland. But it would almost certainly be a one-off / occasional thing, not a regular thing. The NFL just expanded to 8 international games for 2025 after being at a max four. These games present scheduling problems so there is a limit somewhere. Germany has become a consistent location and the new Bernabeu likely will as well. Mexico City and Brazil are on the list and those have the advantage of less time zone changes. Reducing the games in London eventually (and one of Tottenham or Wembley missing out) would probably need to happen Newcastle is not particularly easy to get to from anywhere in the US Also the chairman of the NFL's international committee is .... Joel Glazer. Lots could change in the next few years but if Man United build a new stadium it may be impossible to beat out as the northern location. One angle I've thought about which would be helped by having a new, NFL ready stadium is NUFC forming a partnership with an NFL team (possibly with some PIF investment). Try to establish an arrangement where Newcastle plays summer friendlies in their city and the NFL team considers Newcastle its 'home.' Adidas could be involved depending on the players. The Jacksonville Jaguars have sort of done this with Wembley, but not sure if it's going to continue. I think someone will try to pull off a more formal partnership at some point.
  2. We may end up getting an additional £50m from sales (Maxi + Wood + Ashworth) for 2023/24. We'll be getting ~£6m less in PL merit payments, which essentially offsets the CL matchday income. We may hit £350m if Ashworth happens and counts in this accounting year. But then for 2024/25 we'll be back around £300m from predictable sources. To get back to £350m and above it would need to be from Europa League, player sales, and new sponsorships (training gear, etc.).
  3. Easily one of my five favorite players and the highlight of the Ashley era for me.
  4. Arsenal appear to be fine. They may even be using the standard limit of £15m in losses as it’s not clear if Kroenke has satisfied the requirements to boost to £105m (per latest Swiss Ramble). Their wages and amortisation costs are growing steadily now but with consecutive CL, higher PL money, etc they are in decent shape.

    Soccer.

Argentina friendlies in the US coming up. Absolutely outrageous ticket prices to the point that, in Philly, only parts of the upper level are sold out despite everyone writing blank checks to see Messi previously. I bought two tickets
  6. Or a nation fueled by credit card debt
  7. It's NYC, but $780m for 25k capacity. Looks cool:
  8. The fact Eddie took a few looks at him and determined he was a lost cause says it all.
  9. I'm going to let it continue to keep me up at night until it's proven untrue.
  10. I'd take £15k if someone will take his wages.
  11. Could really use a few starts from Targett as a showcase. Shifting him in the summer would be a huge win.
  12. I don't think there's any way we'll spend that much. Our wages + amortisation costs are already £255m (using Swiss Ramble's rough 90% estimate for how much players/staff contribute to the wage number). These are all very rough numbers and UEFA uses calendar years instead to make this exceptionally complicated, but that amount on £320m in revenue gets us just below the 80% mark that UEFA will apply for 2024/25. I've posted before about optimism for the next few transfer windows based on the current PL PSR regulations, but UEFA's cost control metric and similar coming to the PL is definitely more difficult for us. That said, there are a number of angles here. The PL % may be higher and may also get phased in over a couple years. Plus, the UEFA penalty for a first time offense under 10% is 10-25% of the overage so we could push things to 89% (£285m on £320m revenue) and then pay a penalty of at most £7.5m. Increasing revenue really is the key and we have work to do just to get back to ~£320m in 2024/25. Ashworth could help and a training ground/shirt sponsor this summer would be huge. Looking at this again recently I can see why there will definitely be player sales.
  13. Feels like one that’s plausible we’d inquire and then not be interested at the price.
  14. Definitely possible. I do find it hard to believe that a club is just going to accept a relegation if a points deduction is the difference. But there's also so little time between seasons that I don't know how anything gets done about it.
  15. FFP figures (estimates from Swiss Ramble). The actual losses were £73m each time.
  16. He got hurt in the Forest game, yes. He got injured four times this season. 3 games in a week (hamstring) - Fair to be annoyed by this; he is fragile 6 games / 368 minutes in 2.5 weeks (hamstring) - Not reasonable 6 games / 453 minutes in 2.5 weeks (calf) - Even less reasonable Torn pec wrestling - freak injury IMO the responsibility for two of his four injuries this season are on the club. A player with his fitness record, who may not have even been 100% fit at the time, can't be asked to do what he did on two separation occasions.
  17. Not this year. Everyone doing their own thing. Chelsea and City also apparently coming to the US. Not surprisingly part of the problem are the red clubs: "The Summer Series has faced several other issues, one being an ongoing dispute within the Premier League. England’s top flight centrally wishes to package a collective broadcast deal for showing the fixtures. However, several Premier League clubs generate significant revenue by selling subscriptions to watch pre-season fixtures on their platforms. These clubs believe they can secure more lucrative match fees by organising games through deals with promoters independently." There's also the fact Copa America is in the US this summer and then NBC, the Premier League's partner, is the broadcaster for the Olympics. It's been reported that it will be back in 2025, but the Club World Cup will be in the US that summer and then the World Cup in 2026. Could be challenging.
  18. You're missing the CL game. And then he started again three days after that stretch and that's when he got hurt.
  19. 2023/24 accounts won't be out until next Jan. or later, but we have to. The year dropping off (the blended Covid season) had a £13m profit. The others are roughly a £60m loss and a £58m loss. This current season will need to be profitable to balance the three year period and then starting next season the £60m loss will drop off.
  20. I hope Freedman is locked into a deal at Palace so they can play hardball too. Fuck Man United.
  21. He played over 400 minutes in less than two weeks. It was reckless.
  22. No, here's from a post I did a few weeks ago:
  23. My preference unless we find a reasonably priced, young alternative to serve as a backup striker is: - Keep Isak - Keep Wilson - Sign an elite RW who can also play up front like Gordon - Limit Wilson to one game per week max. If Isak is hurt and Wilson has played that week then we function as if he's hurt and use either Gordon or the RW. (If we can get a good fee for Wilson then I agree it might be the last chance to sell him, but I don't know what that looks like)
  24. My impression is this is a much more rigorous set of requirements with the onus on the club to prove it's ok as opposed to the PL (or whomever) needing to prove it's not ok.
