As if. "As you know, we had to buy brand new shirts for every single one of the players due to the new sponsor. We also had to pay to have the old shirts disposed of. These things all add up." Virgin Money took over Northern Rock, right? And Northern Rock were paying us money... surely there won't be any 'new' funds?

Was a matter of time until something like this happened, not as bad as his fall out with Deschamps, mind. He should be one of the first names on the teamsheet. Don't blame him for being frustrated.

So as far as we know it's only the shirt sponsorship confirmed so far..?

Putting passion aside, if I were about to embark of a huge marketing campaign to raise the brand awareness of a product and attach it to the city it resides in, I'd seriously consider it. Cleverly placed story in the Journal this morning as well...

From 20 Nov: The Virgin Money chief executive last week unveiled a £747m takeover of Newcastle sponsor Northern Rock. The club’s stadium has been renamed the Sports Direct Arena by Mike Ashley, Newcastle United’s owner and founder of the sports retail chain, in preparation for a sale of the naming rights.
