Couldn't have asked for a more perfect result. After a shaky first 15 minutes we were superb, Cisse just keeps banging them in, Ben Arfa made something happen nearly every time he went forward and the back four were terrific. Cabaye and Tiote worked their socks off too. Carroll had an absolute nightmare and was a disgrace with his dive and Enrique going in goal after Reina's red card was just the icing on the cake. Hope we can maintain our defensive solidity going into a tough game against Swansea.

Montpellier just refuse to go away in the title race and fair play to them. There is a lot of spirit in that side and in the PSG team to be honest so I think it will go right down to the wire. Was at the Parc Des Princes earlier this month to watch PSG beat Ajaccio 4-1, superb stadium and an absolutely mental atmosphere.

Superb display, excellent on the counter attack, we looked dangerous every time we went forward. Ben Arfa had his best game in a Newcastle shirt, if he is able to play like that on a regular basis then he'll win games for us by himself. Ba put in a shift that will be overshadowed by Cisse's double, but the front three are working brilliantly together. Cabaye was tireless and Jonas' run of good form continues. Perch's renaissance is a joy to behold, and while Coloccini's injury is a worry, I think we can overcome it, especially if Tiote returns to the side. We did what we had to do in the second half, but all in all we were a pleasure to watch. Somewhere up there Sir Bobby was smiling today.

Really like the Team GB kit. Very smart.

Its a bit daft comparing him to Pele and Maradona, as people have said they played in completely different eras. Still he's probably the best I've seen in my lifetime. C.Ronaldo is up there for sheer goalscoring ability, but Zidane remains my personal favourite.

Win next 2 games and 6th could be secured soon. Can't afford to get anything less than four points.
-
Huge if we can get a win here.

Full back or Centre back? cant say i have a clue who he is tbh. Centre back, only 20 years old. Other than that I know next to nothing about him. Interesting! Thanks for the more accurate translation

We're reportedly in for Gronigen defender Virgil Van Dijk and are set to meet with his agent in the next couple of months.

Brilliant read as many have already said. I think everyone on N-O should be made to read it and thereafter sit an examination to ensure it has sunk in. Anyone not reaching a set pass mark should be banned indefinitely. That's Neesy f***ed  88% though that is ridiculous. Wigan are royally knackered if they go down. They won't do a Pompey, but they won't be darkening the Premier League's door for a while.

Very good read as it clearly outlines all the work done by the club in recent years to get us back on a solid financial footing. As it states the main problem we have now is maximising our revenue streams. With that in mind I don't think anyone would argue that selling the naming rights is a good idea, its just the crass and insensitive way Ashley has gone about it that is in infuriating. European football would also help in that respect, as we'd certainly be more attractive commercially with continued involvement in European competition. However, the main positive to take from that article is the fact that we're in line to comply with FFP rules when they come into force, as some clubs, such as Aston Villa could be in some serious s*** when that comes into play. There is a chance for real growth at this club and the achievement of Category One Elite Player Performance Plan status and the opportunity to recruit young players from across the country, would only help further our potential.

He played very narrow but he and Gutierrez were at the hub of most of our attacks. They linked up well as a pair down that side. 1st Half. We didn't do a single attack down the left hand side until the 75th minute 2nd half. We were crap for a lot of the Second Half I'll agree. That's where I think Pardew's subs were smart, the introduction of Santon and Shola settled the side down. The subs were right, tho I didn't agree with the HBA going off for Santon. I would had took off Guthrie. Harsh on HBA yes as I thought he did give us a fair bit of impetus in the First Half. Guthrie was decent in fits and starts, but for a guy of decent build he gets knocked off the ball too easily. I just can't get away with how bad he is off the ball, it's where Cabaye excels in as his workrate off the ball is fantastic, Guthrie's for some reason is poor. His vision and ability to pick a pass is brilliant at times, but as you say he appears quite lazy off the ball. He is a decent squad player who I would keep hold of, but I would like some more depth at CM in the summer.

He did well when he had the opportunity. He's just stuck too close to the defenders at the minute to do it as often as we need him to. Would go along with that.
-
Highlights made us look a lot better than we were. True, but he was involved in almost everything positive we did today. This idea that he did nothing is a myth.
-
Watching the highlights back, Cabaye had a very nice game, how anyone can say Guthrie was better is totally beyond me.

As a performance, it was slightly better than our 1-0 win over QPR. We started excellently and looked lively but we slowed the tempo down and that helped them massively. Despite our lacklustre performance in the Second Half, we were only really troubled when Krul had to pull off the quick pair of saves. Felt Jonas was excellent, Cabaye looked better going forward and Perch did a decent job in the holding role. Up front Cisse was excellent, and would have had a hat-rick if not for Ruddy. Ba had a quieter game but linked play well at times. The back four had the odd the shaky moment but were solid overall. Ben Arfa had his moments but the changes Pardew made worked as we looked a lot more composed when Santon and Shola came on. Overall we were far from out best, but it was three points and a clean sheet. Can't ask for more, especially when we could have been 3 or 4 up by Half Time if not for the Keeper. Wouldn't mind seeing the formation we deployed used again. While Perch had a good game it would certainly work better with Tiote in there as again we appeared to lose too many 50/50s, though Guthrie was slightly more culpable than Perch or Cabaye in that respect.
-
Because it isn't his game, he's a ball player but we're not letting him show his skill.s Agree with the rest though, win and a good performance is needed on Sunday badly. Aye that's essentially what I've said in the Cabaye thread. He's far better when we're on the front foot.
-
He's been disappointing recently, but he's far better, like most players, when he has space to operate. Was very good in the Second Half against Sunderland and looked to create some good opportunities going forward when we actually had the ball in the 2nd half tonight. Not strong enough defensively and its a side of the game he can still improve on. When we press teams and are on the offensive (e.g. v Man U at home) he and Tiote are virtually unplayable. However, when we are on the back foot he is overly reliant on Tiote and his defensive fallibility was evident when Cheick came off.
-
Tiote our MoM in my opinion. Excellent throughout, Cabaye lost two many 50/50s and Obertan got worse as the night went on. Overall I thought we were well organised and defended well but both goals were poor ones to concede. Perch did very well coming on for Santon, but its clear we've missed S.Taylor as Williamson just isn't good enough. Proud of the lads, we've been here before and we'll bounce back. Have to beat Norwich, too many games without a win.

How you can accuse any of our players of not trying tonight is beyond me.
