Is it not because Schar has more credit in the bank? Fab was exceptional under Rafa and for circa three years under Howe. He was an absolute warrior. Last season though, he got beaten in the air easily, his positioning was questionable and his previously pinpoint passing regularly found an opponent. I struggle to see how it improves with him turning 35 this year. Thiaw has played more minutes than any other CB this season and he's been very good for a large majority of them. Sure, he had one particularly poor half and has made a couple of errors, but considering the lack of rest, it's been an excellent first season in the Premier League.

Always feel the need to caveat this with I love Fab, he's been a fantastic servant. ...but much like Trippier, he looked very much on the decline last season and put in a lot of average to poor performances. Happy for him to stay as cover, but we should be phasing him out.

Salah's drop off is doing van Dijk a lot of favours. The pair of them look a shadow of their former selves.

RCB, he's second choice behind Thiaw.
