Not saying it won’t be a shit game, just saying stop whinging about it. And it might not. Maybe.

Complaints about how dull/bad/meaningless the teams involved in a given live PL game are. We all know the drill and it’s barely changed for decades. Every team has to get featured a certain amount of times, and there’s a reasonable chance that the TV companies will want to put less popular teams together in order to “get them out of the way”. Complaining that, say, Wolves v Brentford is on a particular day that loads of people might be watching is pretty disrepectful towards fans of those teams too, and actually personally I’d far rather see Wolves v Brentford than Liverpool v Brentford where we have to tolerate the inevitable one-sided analysis and commentary and less inevitably one-sided match. The Cups are different. All-PL clashes should be banned from TV until the latter stages, and plucky underdogs should only be featured when they’re at home. Everything else should be moaned about. Just…for the love of God, stop whinging about dull-looking PL games. We get it. And you’re in the wrong.

What are the odds that it would be such a strong fit for both clubs?

I suspect very strongly that 14-16pts will not be enough to see you in the top 8. 16pts might, if you're lucky. Apparently the top 8 play virtually none of each other in the next couple of games - somebody mentioned I think Inter play Arsenal and that might be it (citation needed). I'd expect all the teams on 13pts to get at least 16 - just win the home game...apart from PSG. That probably leaves three spots. Inter play Arsenal but then Dortmund, so that could be tricky, but Dortmund themselves have 11pts and play us this coming week. That helps you out, but if we both beat Dortmund that makes life harder for you. Real Madrid are at home to Monaco and away to Benfica. I'd expect them to get at least 3 pts from that, crisis or no crisis. That would leave them on 15pts. Atleti have an awkward trip to Galatasaray but then have Bodo/Glimt at home. Again, fully expect them to get at least 3 points from that. 15pts. Liverpool are away to Marseille and home to Qarabag. Again, surely that's at least 3pts. 15pts. Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon and Barca are also on 10pts. Barca have Sparta Prague away and Copenhagen at home, although your goal difference is great. 14pts will not be enough. I think we both have to win both our games to have a chance, and even if you win both of yours you need a few results to go your way. Having the PSG away game last will help, but I suspect that even if they win in Portugal they will need a point in the last game to make sure.

It was slightly surprising given they’d been pretty solidly pro-Liverpool up to then. Fair play though.

Not if it gives them a bye in the CL…which this one might just do.

Commentary on the radio was pretty unanimous that it shouldn’t have been a penalty.

It actually blows my mind that the last post in here was on November 11th. I just popped in to check how your European campaign was going.

Occam’s Razor applies here I think, Alex

How is Tarkowski not booked there? Such a cowardly foul.
-
Fuck me that’s a horrible tackle.

Wow. 65 whole games missed through injury. How have Arsenal survived? And as many as *checks notes* four whole players missing today. Thank goodness we’re getting all our players back now. How many were missing today? Seven. Fuck off Arteta.

Wasn’t expecting to see Camelon pop up on the BBC. They were my local Juniors side when I lived in Falkirk - sadly just let in a late equalizer in the Cup.

Christ, Arsenal are going to win it by January at this rate.
-
We threw away a potential result there on Wednesday and we're patching a team together every week. I think you've got every chance there.

Particularly apt mistake there. Edit: I see SGTF got there first. Honestly Disco, there are multiple levels of clever wordplay there (recent Israeli football hooligan issues, Swiss connections to Nazi gold etc) so you could have legitimately pretended it was satire.

He was and is an absolute diamond, fortunately. Sol Campbell is one of my little pet quirks actually. I’m one of the very few Spurs fans who has some sympathy with him, or at least the him when he was playing. I went to a huge chunk of the games he played for us. When he came in Spurs were falling apart on and off the pitch and he had a huge amount of responsibility put on him even in his first few games. We’d have him on as a full back and senior players would give him the ball and expect him to do so much. He was obviously going to be great but he came in at precisely the wrong time - we were heading down while football and so many other teams were heading up. Sure, he fucked us over, but he also gave us a ton.

That’s unfortunate, England have been really good the last few games. I love watching the Home Nations, generally want them to win and was made up when Ireland qualified. That said, this Scottish team somehow blundering their way through is hilarious. They’ve been absolutely awful. Put this ref on the list as yet another illustration of English refs not actually being as bad as they could be. Classic bad reffing from a top European ref - make cards a total lottery, favour the home team, feel free to flat-out guess what actually happened based on player reactions if you didn’t see it. Would love all the Home Nations and Ireland to qualify from the toughest FIFA WC qualifying system.

Hang on, who mentioned Israel? Just pissing about . That said, maybe CONMEBOL teams are a bit over-ranked. I mean, Uruguay have played precisely two European teams this decade, losing to Portugal and drawing with, erm, the Basque Country. No matter, I’d leave any argument about the relative difficulties of the qualifying paths to Kaiz’s TikTok. More interested in Yorkie’s point about qualifying in general which is becoming more and more pertinent. There do seem to be far too many matches and far too much travelling.

If after beating the mighty Bolivia at home you then barely beat Peru (90th minute winner) draw at home to Venezuela and then lose the next three qualifiers to Uruguay, Colombia and Argentina you shouldn’t have a chance at playing the World Cup.

This may be the single worst goal I have ever seen: https://www.reddit.com/r/footballcringe/s/Vgmm61P00I

Boo Croatia score. Come on Northern Ireland.

They’ve been good all through qualifying, just can’t get results. Northern Ireland played really well to beat them.
