  1. What result are you guys looking for next week?
  2. Then on to Mark Goldbridge…
  3. Christ lads, it took them five minutes to take the penalty
  4. Again, like I’ve said before, they often just do what refs have done since the beginning of time - favour the home team. Whether Liverpool or Chelsea are involved is a factor, but it feels like they often just take the easiest route - even if that does go against a “big” team. It’s why whinging like a twat ultimately pays dividends. It’s why Arteta gets away with fucking murder on the touch line.
  5. But the problem West Ham have is that they’re using him as a holding/defending midfielder, along with Soucek as a sort of double-pivot, and it’s been awful.
  6. The old wisdom about WP was that he was generally mediocre but good at free-kicks. Sounds like it was the case.
  7. I think they’ve highlighted Ward-Prowse as a problem themselves.
  8. Makes sense, thought he was excellent against us. My guess is that their ropey midfield causes a lot of those problems for the defence.
  9. Another important game for Man U. They’ve got a pretty strong team for them and Sunderland at home next week before the international break. Any sort of result today and a win against Sunderland and they’ll feel they’ve turned a corner. If they lose today, then there’s a ton of pressure on them against Sunderland at home and I can see them slipping up. Then they’ve got a few awkward away games after the break.
  10. Nah, that LB Diouf is terrific. Happily take him off their hands in Jan. They can have Bissouma. Might not be the worst buy for them either.
  11. I don’t know enough about the details of their squad, but it does feel like that.
  12. Yeah I was totally baffled by the timing too - even if it’s Monday.
  13. Because you didn’t watch him regularly. It’s just not possibly to reliably compare players in different eras, even though Shearer’s wasn’t that long ago. Comments like Kane was a “late bloomer” or “has had no injuries” are over-egging the pudding - he was the top scorer in the Premier League at 22 - before Shearer managed that - and has chronic ankle problems. Just…Shearer had knee injuries for his entire career. Including his first season for Blackburn - where he would have been the top scorer otherwise. It’s more complicated, and the fact that pudding always seems to be over-egged betrays that. I think they’re both amazing and surely the two best centre-forwards England have ever produced, certainly in the modern era. It just feels like Spurs fans have been saying the same stuff forever. Bayern Munich fans saying they didn’t know about the passing, the defending etc. We knew. The one-season wonder stuff, the “should move to a bigger club” stuff, the “only scores penalties” stuff. We knew. I remember I think I posted on here about a goal he scored early on against West Ham (IIRC). It came to him at the edge of the area and he contorted his body in a very specific and unusual way so that he could kick the ball at a very specific trajectory and swerve that was perfect. I’ve not seen many people that would and could do what he did in a game at Spurs - Hoddle, Berbatov, maybe one or two others. Never seen Shearer do rhat…but I presume he did. Maybe. I don’t know, I didn’t watch him every week. I saw Hoddle, Waddle, Gazza, Ardiles, Son etc etc. He is comfortably the best footballer - not centre-forward, footballer - we have had. Except maybe Modric

  15. Fastest to 100 goals for a club in the top 5 leagues since 1992. Beats CR and Haaland by one game.

He’s just doing what he’s paid to do. Ignore him.
  17. Awful. There’s a guy on Spurscommunity who had asked people to keep Vigar in mind when it had just happened - his best friend’s daughter was Vigar’s girlfriend. Just heartbreaking.
  18. Not sure I follow. The final was the hardest game of the round compared to all the other games in that round? Or it wasn’t a home draw? As for the semi-final, the best draw in a two-legged tie is to be away first then home. You know that. I’d rather be away first against Arsenal than home first against Liverpool. Either way, see you in October.
  19. Well quite . The hardest game of the round again? You’re always at home, man. The last time you had the hardest tie of the round was the 2nd round of the League Cup last year. Just hope we’re not all injured so we can make a game of it.

Mikel Arteta, ladies and gentlemen: “I heard a lot of things using my phone, they could not believe what we did to Manchester City. People who are coaches, managers, CEOs, presidents.”
  21. Little things like the ref giving a goal kick there really add up. No time added on to the 6 despite the Southampton player getting booked. It’s small, but these are the little home advantage things that can help tip the balance.
  22. Urgh. Was quite enjoying that for a bit. Genuinely considering Michael Portillo on BBC2 now. I mean, I’m not going to do that to myself, but the fact it’s even on the radar speaks volumes.
  23. Ladies and gentlemen, the luckiest club in the Universe.
