On reflection, one “goal” I remember celebrating more than any other non-Spurs goal was the Campbell one against Argentina that got disallowed. Hoddle’s probably my all-time football hero and he was absolutely brilliant orchestrating things on the sideline that day, and then for it to be Campbell as well. Went straight to the pub outside work (HMV Oxford Circus) for the game, and me and an Arsenal fan (Jeff) were going absolutely mental when it went in. So gutted. Have you been watching the game? What sort of team do you have out? I was worried about our squad beforehand because of all the players we have out on loan but had forgotten it was U19. We have a couple of very good 16-year olds and actually the U19 team we have is very similar to our U21 team. I thought your U18 team was doing well so I presumed your U19 would be good too, although obviously Barca is quite another question.

Think we had the better of the first half, got outplayed in the second, all that matters is the result really. We look like what we are, a team under new management with a couple of new players trying to work things out. Going to take some time. We were weirdly casual at times and I think when we’re attacking we’re not familiar enough with each other’s movement to make the right decisions. I think it will come.

The annoying - well let’s just say corrupt - thing is that the VAR and reffing in our game was as it was supposed to be.
