but harsh - not his fault he is still very raw, the lad needs a run of games and it is the clubs fault he wasn't sent on loan he is at the same stage carroll was 18 months ago and he only started getting games cos we got relegated Good bloody job he wasn't. We'd be even worse off right now.

Don't tell me you're surprised mate? Is there a squad update like?
-
"forced to leave" = told to wait until the summer to renegotiate a 4 month old, five year contract. Fuck him and fuck anyone who needs disgusting amounts of money to play for our club.
-
Exactly. Give Carroll £80k or whatever and then all of a sudden the likes of Barton, Enrique, Tiote, etc start demanding similar. Exactly. I'd rather not have lost any of our top players but if it took one of them to be a greedy, demanding cunt than I'd sooner the rest knew the consequence of doing something similar was to be told to do one. If anybody else does it I don't want them at my football club anyway. Sick of money-motivated fuckers in football at any club, glad we're not tolerating them at ours.
-
Christ it's dreadful seeing those names as speculation but I can't help but feel like it's inevitable. I'm sure I'm in the majority that I'd much rather us take a punt on a foreigner for a fraction of the price than go for, pretty much any, current EPL striker from the teams around us.

Infuriating, aye but come on, let's not all get carried away. He might have put his chubby foot in it but let's not forget what Kevin Nolan has done, on and off the pitch, for this football club since the relegation, eh? As I said, it's fucking painful reading but surely a bit of an over-reaction by some, no?

Firstly we will have a budget for this season, putting Carroll on 80k would disrupt that. Also the club rightly wants to bring every players wage to a respectable level, Carroll for 80k a week simply isn't worth it. I do like the clubs apparent policy on wages to be honest. If any player wants huge sums of money to pull on the shirt they should be told to fuck off. We don't want another Owen, Viduka, Smith, Duff, Geremi etc etc etc on the books. We need a good wage structure, it should easily seperate those players who want to come here to play their football in front of a great audience from those who want to come here to boost their bank balances. i.e. if Sebastien Larsson wanted to become a Newcastle United player, he would be one. Not that I have a lot of confidence in the board but Sebastien Larsson isn't worth a decent chunk of our wage budget, if he wanted more than we were prepared to give him I'm fucking pleased the deal fell through, just as I will be in the summer with any similar deals. We might be extremely short on bodies but I'd much rather that than to have bulked out the squad with yet more money-hungry bastards like we've had in the past. At least with any potential new signings we can be pretty confident that they're here for footballing reasons.
-
Agree with your point but I reckon Llambias probably meant it would go against the wage structure rather than us not being able to afford it.
-
I'm feeling pretty confident about tonight, I reckon the lads will come together after the shock of the other day and put in a great shift tonight. Honestly think we will beat them. Either that or we'll lose.
-
Not a bad shout Caicedo, like. Especially since Man City will pretty much give their 'fringe' players away to make way for more big money signings. May feel he has a point to prove too.
-
I think Ranger will certainly get more minutes in the remainder of the season. Hopefully will take 1 goal to get his confidence going, he knows where the goal is for the reserves at least. Still can't get over that miss against West Ham though

What the f*** should he say? "How did you feel when you first heard of Liverpool's interest? "I didn't give a toss, I'm Newcastle through and through. Now take me back home please." Of course. That wouldn't really work out in the real world tho.. His actual answer is a pretty standard answer, who i wouldn't lay too much thought in to. Also the reporter is very clearly trying to drag answers like that out of him - almost putting words in Carroll's mouth. Why wouldn't it? A transfer can only go through if three parties agree to it. He didn't have to sign for Liverpool.
-
Since I can remember it's always been a fucking chore watching England, I cannot ever, EVER get excited about watching them like I do when watching Newcastle. Less so now due to the Carroll factor. If I ever miss a Newcastle game (don't get to SJP as much as I should so on TV most of the time) I'm devastated, yet I'll always give the missus the TV remote when England are on. Couldn't give a shit if I miss watching them.

I can't help but imagine Pards sitting at home, coming across this thread and not having heard of any of the names mentioned Google: "Your search for 'Lacina Traore wife' found no results. Did you mean RICKY LAMBERT wife?" AP: "Ah, she'll do"
-
Agree Why? He's run off to join a rival for a massive pay rise. Indeed. Shay Given jumped ship and I'm pretty sure nobody would want him back here. He also showed a great deal more loyalty than Carroll did. Also Given fucked off when we were in a worse situation than we are now.

Fucking sick to death of people saying things like this like. He was earning a very good wage, and would have earned at least that for the next 5 1/2 years, playing for his boyhood club, wearing the 'famous' number 9 shirt that he dreamt about wearing, playing in front of 50,000 adoring fans every home game. For a geordie lad, that surely has to be worth more than a bigger pay packet somewhere else. He wasn't earning a fucking pittance here for christ sake. Whether it was him, his agent or Ashley and Llambias it was all done out of fucking greed, not for footballing reasons. If £40k is a very good wage to make him stay then surely £40k more is a very good wage to make him want to leave?! (Assuming the figures quoted are correct) To make him stay at his boyhood club, his hometown city, yes. To make him leave for a club arguably as fucked up as we are, no. £40k a week he was earning? At the club of his dreams. FORTY THOUSAND POUNDS A WEEK. Short career or not, that's a fucking gigantic sum of money, and surely he was doing his absolute dream job too? If his motivation to leave us was for more money at Liverpool rather than 10 years wearing the #9 for us, well fuck him.

I'm sure most of us would play for the club if our living and travel expenses were paid; wearing the shirt is pay enough for me if I'm honest. Now wearing the number 9? Not even worth thinking about how little I'd ask for. Exactly my point.

But have you edited football manager? I moved the cunt to Liverpool on FIFA.

2010/11 transfers for comparison to the Carroll deal, not saying they're all better than Carroll, or even in the same mould but if we're talking value for money, it really does underline why we need to look abroad for any potential replacement: Andy Carroll - £35m David Villa - £34m Ibrahimovic - £21.25m Ozil - £12.75m Soldado - £8.5m Affelay - £3m Aduriz - £3.5m J Hernandez - £6m Cassano - £4.25m Krasic - £12.75m Almeida - £1.75m Simao - £6m Gourcuff - £18.5m Briand - £5m Moutinho - £9.25m Huntelaar - £11m Eduardo - £6m Diego - £12.75m

A contract better than 30 k a week isn't necessarily stupid money you know. 30 k a week is, tbh, not enough for one of our absolute best players. Former players have nothing to do with this tbh.. £30k a week for a young striker, only a handful of Premier League appearances, let alone goals, is a hefty amount. Until someone introduces fee and salary caps, football is about 90% business and money and 10% 'playing' at the moment. Ashley might be a lot of things but at least he's trying to make us a sustainable football club. I know there are plenty of haters, and rightly so, but he didn't HAVE to strengthen last January to ensure more bodies and promotion, he DID back Hughton in the summer when it first seemed he wouldn't do and accepting £35m for Carroll is common sense man. Granted, my opinion will drastically change if, come the summer we're back in the Championship or don't reinvest the money into the team. Where are the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool going to be if their owners pulled the plug on their funding?
-
And? Give him a new contract every 3 months man when he wants a pay rise. Cause he wanted a new contract this one time like? Relax man. Should've given him one. 2 months after his last major contract. Not even Man Utd or Chelsea give out contracts every 2-3 months man. What's to say he wanted a new contract 2 months after his last one like? Pardew has said he asked for new contract, see his interview. His deal with us wasn't even that good. If he had gotten this new and improved one, that would prob be the end of it. he had gotten a new improved deal a few months ago, whats supposed to be done just hand out new contracts every few months? Not saying that. But to keep hold of our best players we have to be up there with clubs like Tottenham and Liverpool when it comes to wages. Carroll was no where near those wages. Why should we attempt to compete with those teams in terms of wages OR transfer fees? This is a local hero, wearing the #9 shirt he probably dreamt about wearing as a kid. I'm sure after signing a new contract in October he was hardly earning a pittance. In this day and age it isn't a surprise to see players motivated by money, not a surprise, just a massive disappointment. However much I'd love to blame Ashley for this, let's be brutally honest, if we supported any other team and saw a still relatively unproven Premiership striker, with half a full season under his belt, several off-the-field problems and currently injured (under allegedly dubious circumstances), being sold for £35m we'd think the buying team were being robbed blind. Ask yourselves this: How would you all feel if Andy Carroll was a born and bred cockney, playing for someone like Fulham, adn we had just shelled out £35m for him? We'd be even more of a frigging laughing stock.

Rebrov to Spurs? Denilson to Betis?

Hleb leaving Arsenal.
